Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

I remember as a young girl, I wanted a dog so badly. I thought if my parents got me a dog then it will completely satisfy my heart, and I will never ask them for anything again. To my surprise, as soon as I got my first dog in elementary school, I had another desire for something else that I wanted to ask my parents to get me next.

I agree with Jesus nothing will completely satisfy our hearts. We will always thirst after the next thing.

verse 14: “The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water”

Notice it says the water Jesus gives becomes a “spring” of water. So it’s not just one drink of His water that will satisfy us, but it will become a well of water we can drink eternally.

Jesus claims that I am the way, the truth and the life, no one can come to the Father except through me. Once a person comes to truly believe in Jesus as their Lord and Savior, Holy Spirit lives in Him and the believer will thirst after a deeper relationship with Him. Jesus through His living word (the Bible) satisfies our thirsty souls.

As a believer I can testify that God satisfies my soul. For example, I’m thankful God taught me to guard my heart because my heart is deceitful above all things. Contrary to this worldview, the world advises “follow your heart”. God is truly satisfying. I seek God’s word for comfort, truth, wisdom, confrontation and reminder of God’s perfect and unfailing love for me that no other person or thing can offer. He is truly our all in all.
