Psalm 145

This is a song that David wrote to praise God.

An alphabet of praise [ a ]

145 A lways I will praise you, my God and my king,
and I will say how great you are!
2 B ecause you are good, I will praise you every day.
Yes, I will always praise your name.
3 C learly the Lord is great!
He is so great that we cannot understand it.
4 D own from father to son, people will praise you.
They will tell each other about the powerful things that you have done.
5 E veryone will speak about your glory and authority.
I also will think carefully about your great miracles.
6 F amous are the powerful things that you have done.
People will talk about them.
I also will speak about the great things that you do.
7 G ood things are what everybody will remember about you.
They will sing about your justice.
8 H ow very kind the Lord is!
He is very patient and his faithful love continues.
9 I t is the Lord who takes care of everybody.
He is kind to everything that he has made.
10 J oin together to thank the Lord !
Everything that he has made will praise him.
Your own people will praise you, Lord !
11 K ing is who you are and your kingdom is great!
People will speak about your royal authority.
12 L et everyone agree that you do great things!
Let them say that you rule with great authority.
13 M any years your kingdom will remain, even for ever.
You will always rule your people and their descendants.
N othing that the Lord promises is false.
He is kind in everything that he does. [ b ]
14 O ften people fall, but the Lord lifts them up.
He helps everyone who has trouble.
15 P eople look to you for help.
You give them food when they need it.
16 R eady to help, you open your hand.
You give to every living thing the good things that they want.
17 S o the Lord is fair in all that he does.
He always shows how much he loves us.
18 T he Lord is ready to help everyone who asks him.
He is near to everyone who prays honestly.
19 V ery kindly he gives his own people the things that they need.
He saves them when they call to him for help.
20 W hoever loves the Lord , he keeps safe.
But he destroys wicked people.
21 Y es, I will praise the Lord !
Everyone who lives should praise his holy name for ever!

  1. 145:1 This psalm is an alphabet poem. In the Hebrew language, each verse started with a letter of the Hebrew alphabet. We have used English letters here. There are 22 letters in the Hebrew alphabet, so we have left out 4 English letters.

145 I will tell of your greatness, my God and King.
I will praise your name forever and ever.
2 I will praise you every day.
I will praise your name forever and ever.
3 The Lord is great and deserves all our praise!
No one can fully understand his greatness!
4 Each generation will praise you
and tell the next generation about the great things you do.
5 Your majesty and glory are wonderful.
I will tell about your miracles.
6 People will tell about the amazing things you do,
and I will tell everyone how great you are.
7 They will talk about your goodness
and sing about your justice.

8 The Lord is kind and merciful,
patient and full of love.
9 The Lord is good to everyone.
He shows his mercy to everything he made.
10 Lord , all you have made will give thanks to you.
Your loyal followers will praise you.
11 They will tell how great your kingdom is.
They will tell how great you are.
12 So others will learn about the mighty things you do,
about the glory of your kingdom—how marvelous it is!
13 Your kingdom will never end,
and you will rule forever.

The Lord can be trusted in all that he says.
He is loyal in all that he does. [ a ]
14 The Lord lifts up people who have fallen.
He helps those who are in trouble.
15 All living things look to you for their food,
and you give them their food at the right time.
16 You open your hands
and give every living thing all that it needs.
17 Everything the Lord does is good.
Everything he does shows how loyal he is.
18 The Lord is near to everyone
who sincerely calls to him for help.
19 He listens to his followers and does what they want.
He answers their prayers and saves them.
20 The Lord protects everyone who loves him,
but he destroys all who do evil.
21 I will praise the Lord !
Let everyone praise his holy name forever and ever!

145 I will extol thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever.

3 Great is the Lord , and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.

13 Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations.

14 The Lord upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down.

15 The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season.

16 Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing.

17 The Lord is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.

18 The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.

19 He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.

20 The Lord preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy.

21 My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord : and let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever.

145 I will ( A ) exalt You, ( B ) my God, the King,
And I will ( C ) bless Your name forever and ever.
2 Every day I will bless You,
And I will ( D ) praise Your name forever and ever.
3 ( E ) Great is the Lord , and highly to be praised;
And His ( F ) greatness is unsearchable.
4 One ( G ) generation will praise Your works to another,
And will declare Your mighty acts.
5 On the ( H ) glorious [ a ] splendor of Your majesty
And ( I ) on Your wonderful works, I will meditate.
6 People will speak of the [ b ] power of Your ( J ) awesome acts,
And I will ( K ) tell of Your greatness.
7 They will burst forth [ c ] in speaking of Your ( L ) abundant goodness,
And will ( M ) shout joyfully of Your righteousness.

8 The Lord is ( N ) gracious and compassionate;
Slow to anger and great in mercy.
9 The Lord is ( O ) good to all,
And His ( P ) mercies are over all His works.

And satisfy the desire of every living thing.

17 The Lord is ( AA ) righteous in all His ways,
And kind in all His works.

A psalm of praise. Of David.

1 I will exalt you, ( A ) my God the King; ( B )
I will praise your name ( C ) for ever and ever.
2 Every day I will praise ( D ) you
and extol your name ( E ) for ever and ever.

3 Great ( F ) is the Lord and most worthy of praise; ( G )
his greatness no one can fathom. ( H )
4 One generation ( I ) commends your works to another;
they tell ( J ) of your mighty acts. ( K )
5 They speak of the glorious splendor ( L ) of your majesty—
and I will meditate on your wonderful works. [ b ] ( M )
6 They tell ( N ) of the power of your awesome works— ( O )
and I will proclaim ( P ) your great deeds. ( Q )
7 They celebrate your abundant goodness ( R )
and joyfully sing ( S ) of your righteousness. ( T )
