29 You may warn a proud person many times, but he will not listen to you.
Trouble will suddenly happen to him and he will not escape.
2 When righteous people are doing well, everyone is happy.
But when wicked people rule, everyone is sad.
3 A man who loves wisdom makes his father happy.
But anyone who is a friend of prostitutes is wasting his father's money.
4 A king who rules with justice makes his country strong.
But a king who takes lots of taxes destroys his country.
5 If you always praise your friends with sweet words,
that will be a trap that you walk into yourself.
6 The sin of an evil person becomes a trap that catches him.
But a righteous person sings with joy.
7 Righteous people want poor people to receive justice.
But wicked people do not understand things like that.
8 People who insult their friends bring trouble to a city.
But wise people stop arguments.
9 If a wise person accuses a foolish person in court,
there will be no agreement.
The fool will only laugh or he will become angry.
10 Murderers hate honest people.
They try to kill any good person.
11 Foolish people cannot control their anger.
But wise people are patient.
12 When a ruler listens to lies,
all his officers will be wicked.
13 The Lord gives light to all people so that they can see.
He does that for poor people and also those who are cruel to them.
14 If a king judges poor people in a true way,
he will always have the power to rule.
15 If you want your children to be wise,
warn them and punish them when they do wrong things.
If you let them do anything that they want to do,
they will make their mother ashamed.
16 When wicked people receive more power, there is also more sin.
But those wicked people will fall while righteous people watch.
17 Warn your children when they do wrong things,
so that you have peace in your mind.
They will make you very happy.
18 If people do not hear God's message,
there is no law to control them.
But if someone obeys God's law,
he is in a happy place.
19 You must use more than words to show a servant what is right.
Even if he understands what you say, he will not obey you.
20 Do you know anyone who speaks before he thinks?
A foolish person is more likely to become wise than that person.
21 You may give a servant everything that he wants from his birth.
But if you do that, he will be useless in the end.
22 An angry person causes arguments.
When he is angry, he causes many sins to happen.
23 A person's pride will bring shame to him.
But a humble person will receive honour.
24 If you help a robber, you are bringing punishment on yourself.
If you tell the truth in court, or if you keep quiet,
you will receive your punishment. [ a ]
25 If you are afraid of what people think about you,
you will never feel safe.
But if you trust in the Lord ,
he will keep you safe.
26 Many people want the king to be their friend.
But only the Lord can give you true justice.
27 Righteous people hate wicked people.
Wicked people also hate people who live in a good way.
29 Some people refuse to bend when someone corrects them. Eventually they will break, and there will be no one to repair the damage.
2 When the rulers are good, the people are happy. When the rulers are evil, the people complain.
3 A son who loves wisdom makes his father happy. One who wastes his money on prostitutes will lose his wealth.
4 A nation will be strong when it has a fair and just king. A nation will be weak when it has a king who is selfish and demands gifts.
5 If you give false praise to others in order to get what you want, you are only setting a trap for yourself.
6 Evil people are defeated by their sin, but good people will sing and be happy.
7 Good people want to do what is right for the poor, but the wicked don’t care.
8 Proud people who laugh at what is right cause problems that divide whole cities, but people who are wise are able to calm those who are angry.
9 If someone who is wise tries to settle a problem with a fool, the fool will argue and say stupid things, and they will never agree.
10 If you always try to be honest, murderers will hate you, but those who do what is right will want you to be their friend.
11 Fools are quick to express their anger, but wise people are patient and control themselves.
12 If a ruler listens to lies, all his officials will be evil.
13 In one way the poor and those who steal from them are the same—the Lord made them both.
14 If a king judges the poor fairly, he will rule for a long time.
15 Punishment and discipline can make children wise, but children who are never corrected will bring shame to their mother.
16 If the wicked are ruling the nation, sin will be everywhere, but those who live right will win in the end.
17 Correct your children whenever they are wrong. Then you will always be proud of them. They will never make you ashamed.
18 If a nation is not guided by God, the people will lose self-control, but the nation that obeys God’s law will be happy.
19 Servants will not learn a lesson if you only talk to them. They might understand you, but they will not obey.
20 There is more hope for a fool than for someone who speaks without thinking.
21 Give your servants everything they want, and they will learn to be wasteful.
22 An angry person causes arguments, and someone who is quick-tempered is guilty of many sins.

26 Many people want the friendship of a ruler, but the Lord is the only one who judges people fairly.
27 Good people think the wicked are disgusting, and the wicked feel disgust for those who are honest.
29 He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
3 Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance.
4 The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it.
5 A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his feet.
6 In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare: but the righteous doth sing and rejoice.
7 The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: but the wicked regardeth not to know it.
8 Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise men turn away wrath.
9 If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.
10 The bloodthirsty hate the upright: but the just seek his soul.

16 When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall.

But he who ( E ) involves himself with prostitutes wastes his wealth.
4 The ( F ) king gives stability to the land by justice,
But a person who takes bribes ruins it.
5 A man who ( G ) flatters his neighbor
Is spreading a net for his steps.
6 By wrongdoing an evil person is ( H ) ensnared,
But the righteous ( I ) sings and rejoices.
7 The ( J ) righteous [ e ] is concerned for the rights of the poor;
The wicked does not understand such [ f ] concern.
8 Arrogant people ( K ) inflame a city,
But ( L ) wise people turn away anger.
9 When a wise person has a controversy with a foolish person,
[ g ] The foolish person either rages or laughs, and there is no rest.
10 People of ( M ) bloodshed hate the blameless person,
But the upright [ h ] are concerned for his life.
11 A ( N ) fool [ i ] always loses his temper,
But a ( O ) wise person holds it back.
12 If a ( P ) ruler pays attention to falsehood,
All his ministers become wicked.
13 The ( Q ) poor person and the oppressor [ j ] have this in common:
The Lord gives ( R ) light to the eyes of both.
14 If a ( S ) king judges the poor with truth,
His ( T ) throne will be established forever.
15 The ( U ) rod and a rebuke give wisdom,
But a child [ k ] who gets his own way ( V ) brings shame to his mother.
16 When the wicked [ l ] increase, wrongdoing increases;
But the ( W ) righteous will see their downfall.
17 ( X ) Correct your son, and he will give you comfort;
He will also [ m ] ( Y ) delight your soul.

But ( AB ) happy is one who keeps the Law.
19 A slave will not be instructed by words alone ;
For though he understands, there will be no response.
20 Do you see a person who is ( AC ) hasty with his words?
There is ( AD ) more hope for a fool than for him.
21 One who pampers his slave from childhood
Will in the end find him to be rebellious.
22 An ( AE ) angry person stirs up strife,
And a hot-tempered person abounds in wrongdoing.
23 A person’s ( AF ) pride will bring him low,
But a ( AG ) humble spirit will obtain honor.
24 One who is a partner with a thief hates his own life;
He ( AH ) hears the oath but tells nothing.
25 The ( AI ) fear of man [ o ] brings a snare,
But one who ( AJ ) trusts in the Lord will be protected.
26 ( AK ) Many seek the ruler’s [ p ] favor,
But ( AL ) justice for mankind comes from the Lord .
27 An ( AM ) unjust person is an abomination to the righteous,
And one who is ( AN ) upright in the way is an abomination to the wicked.
29 Whoever remains stiff-necked ( A ) after many rebukes
will suddenly be destroyed ( B ) —without remedy. ( C )
2 When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; ( D )
when the wicked rule, ( E ) the people groan. ( F )
3 A man who loves wisdom brings joy to his father, ( G )
but a companion of prostitutes squanders his wealth. ( H )

but those who are greedy for [ a ] bribes tear it down.
5 Those who flatter their neighbors

The Lord gives sight to the eyes of both. ( S )
14 If a king judges the poor with fairness,

15 A rod and a reprimand impart wisdom,
but a child left undisciplined disgraces its mother. ( U )
