Leviticus 26

26 You must not make idols from stones and worship them. You must not draw things on stones and bend down in front of them. I am the Lord your God.

2 You must rest on Sabbath days and you must keep them holy. You must respect God's house. I am the Lord .

3 The people must carefully obey the rules. 4 If they do, I will send rain at the proper time. Plants for food will grow in the ground. Fruit will grow on your trees. 5 The people will harvest grain until the grapes are ready to eat. They will harvest the grapes until it is the time to plant seeds. They will have all the food to eat that they need. I will keep them safe in their land.

6 I will stop war in Israel. When the people sleep, they will not be afraid. I will take the wild animals away. Other people will not hurt my people. 7 Israel's enemies will run away from them. They will kill their enemies. 8 Five of you will run after 100 of them. And 100 of you will run after 1,000 enemies. You will kill all your enemies.

9 I will do good things for your people and I will give many children to them. Their number will grow. I will do everything that I have promised to do for them. 10 They will have so much food that some will remain after the next harvest. 11 I will have my home among you, my people. I will never turn away from them. 12 I will walk among the people. They will belong to me. 13 I am the Lord your God. I brought you out of Egypt. You will not be the slaves of people in Egypt. I saved you so that you need not be ashamed.

People who do not obey the rules will not give any pleasure to the Lord

14 God will be angry if the people do not listen to him. He will be angry if they do not obey his rules. 15 The people may not respect or obey God's rules. So they will not be doing what they promised to him. 16 So God will send diseases to the people. They will be afraid. The people will have diseases in their eyes. They will get thin and they will die. They will plant their seed and their enemies will eat the fruit. 17 God will fight against you. Your enemies will win the war. They will become your rulers. Your soldiers will run away even when nobody is running after them.

18 The people may not obey God even after this. If they do not, God will punish them seven times more strongly. 19 He will make them ashamed. He will not send any rain and the land will be hard and dry. 20 Even if they do a lot of work, no grain will grow. No fruit will grow on the trees.

21 The people may still not listen to God. If they do not, he will be seven times more angry. If they do not obey him, he will cause their lives to be seven times more difficult. 22 He will send wild animals to kill their children and their animals. The land will be almost empty.

23 The people may still not listen to God. If they do not, he will be angry. 24 He will become their enemy. If they do not obey him, he will punish them seven times more strongly. 25 He will send enemy soldiers to kill the people. They have not done what they promised to do. So he will punish them for that. If they go back to their cities, he will send them diseases. The enemy will win the war. 26 The people will not have any food. A woman will bake one loaf for ten families. They will weigh it to give one part to each family. When a person eats his piece of bread, he will still be hungry.

27 If the people still turn away from God, he will be even more angry. They will not turn away from their sin. 28 So he will turn away from them. He will punish them seven times more again. 29 They will be so hungry that they will eat their own children. 30 The Lord will destroy the places where they worship false gods. He will destroy their very bad incense altars. He will put their dead bodies round their idols. He will hate them. 31 He will destroy the cities. He will destroy the places for wrong worship. Nobody will burn incense to give the Lord pleasure. 32 God will destroy the land. He will cause the enemies who live in your land to hate it. 33 God will push you out. He will send your people away to other countries. He will destroy your cities. And he will make your land a desert. 34 The land will have a Sabbath rest while there are no people in it. 35 All the time that it is empty, the land will have rest. It will have the Sabbath rest that it did not have. It did not have it when you lived in it.

36 Some of Israel's people will remain in other countries. They will be frightened. A leaf that is blowing in the wind will cause them to run away. It will be like when an enemy is running after them. They will fall even if no enemy is running after them. 37 They will fall over each other when nobody is running after them. They will not be strong enough to fight their enemies. 38 They will die in the countries where they are living. Those countries will cause their deaths. 39 Those who remain here will die because of their sins. They will die because their ancestors did not obey God.

40 Your sons and your grandsons must tell me, the Lord, that they are sorry. They must be sorry because they did not obey my rules. They must be sorry that they turned away from me. 41 They must remember that they made me angry. They caused me to turn away from them. I am the Lord, and I sent them into their enemies' country. They will be sorry until I have punished them enough. 42 Then I will remember my covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. I will remember that I gave their land to them. 43 Before this, the land will be empty and it will have a rest. My people will pay for the bad things that they did. 44 But I, the Lord, will not kill all of them. The people will be living in their enemies' country. Then I will remember them. I will not leave them alone. I will remember my covenant with them. I am the Lord , their God. 45 I will remember my covenant with their ancestors that I brought out of Egypt. The people of other nations saw me do this. I am the Lord .’

46 These are the rules that the Lord gave to Moses on Sinai mountain. They are his covenant with Israel's people. [ a ]

Rewards for Obeying God

26 “Don’t make idols for yourselves. Don’t set up statues or memorial stones in your land to bow down to, because I am the Lord your God!

2 “Remember my special days of rest [ a ] and honor my holy place. I am the Lord .

3 “Remember my laws and commands, and obey them. 4 If you do these things, I will give you rains at the time they should come. The land will grow crops and the trees of the field will grow their fruit. 5 Your threshing will continue until it is time to gather grapes. And your grape gathering will continue until it is time to plant. Then you will have plenty to eat. And you will live safely in your land. 6 I will give peace to your country. You will lie down in peace. No one will come to make you afraid. I will keep harmful animals out of your country. And armies will not come through your country.

7 “You will chase your enemies and defeat them. You will kill them with your swords. 8 Five of you will chase 100 men, and 100 of you will chase 10,000 men. You will defeat your enemies and kill them with your sword.

9 “Then I will turn to you. I will let you have many children. I will keep my agreement with you. 10 You will have enough crops to last for more than a year. You will harvest the new crops. But then you will have to throw out the old crops to make room for the new crops. 11 Also, I will place my Holy Tent among you. I will not turn away from you. 12 I will walk with you and be your God. And you will be my people. 13 I am the Lord your God. You were slaves in Egypt, but I brought you out of Egypt. You were bent low from the heavy weights you carried as slaves, but I broke the poles that were on your shoulders. I let you walk proudly again.

Punishment for Not Obeying God

14 “But if you don’t obey me and all my commands, bad things will happen to you. 15 If you refuse to obey my laws and commands, you have broken my agreement. 16 If you do that, I will cause terrible things to happen to you. I will cause you to have disease and fever. They will destroy your eyes and take away your life. You will not have success when you plant your seed. And your enemies will eat your crops. 17 I will be against you, so your enemies will defeat you. These enemies will hate you and rule over you. You will run away even when no one is chasing you.

18 “After these things, if you still don’t obey me, I will punish you seven times more for your sins. 19 And I will also destroy the great cities that make you proud. The skies will not give rain, and the earth will not produce crops. [ b ] 20 You will work hard, but it will not help. Your land will not give any crops, and your trees will not grow their fruit.

21 “If you still turn against me and refuse to obey me, I will beat you seven times harder! The more you sin, the more you will be punished. 22 I will send wild animals against you. They will take your children away from you. They will destroy your animals. They will kill many of your people. The roads will all be empty.

23 “If you don’t learn your lesson after all this, and if you still turn against me, 24 then I will also turn against you. I—yes, I myself—will punish you seven times for your sins. 25 You will have broken my agreement, so I will punish you. I will bring armies against you. You will go into your cities for safety, but I will cause diseases to spread among you. And your enemies will defeat you. 26 I will give you a share of the grain left in that city. But there will be very little food to eat. Ten women will be able to cook all their bread in one oven. They will measure each piece of bread. You will eat, but you will still be hungry.

27 “If you still refuse to listen to me, and if you still turn against me, 28 then I will really show my anger! I—yes, I myself—will punish you seven times for your sins. 29 You will become so hungry that you will eat the bodies of your sons and daughters. 30 I will destroy your high places. I will cut down your incense altars. I will put your dead bodies on the dead bodies of your idols. You will be disgusting to me. 31 I will destroy your cities. I will make your holy places empty. I will stop smelling your offerings. 32 I will make your land empty. And your enemies who come to live there will be shocked at it. 33 I will scatter you among the nations. I will pull out my sword and destroy you. Your land will become empty, and your cities will be destroyed.

34 “You will be taken to your enemy’s country. Your country will be empty. So your land will finally get its rest. The land will enjoy its time of rest. 35 During the time that the land is empty, it will get the time of rest that you did not give it while you lived there. 36 The survivors will lose their courage in the land of their enemies. They will be afraid of everything. They will run around like a leaf blown by the wind. They will run as if someone is chasing them with a sword. They will fall even when no one is chasing them. 37 They will run as if someone is chasing them with a sword. They will fall over each other—even when no one is chasing them.

“You will not be strong enough to stand up against your enemies. 38 You will be lost in other nations. You will disappear in the land of your enemies. 39 So the survivors will rot away in their sin in their enemies’ countries. They will rot away in their sins just as their ancestors did.

There Is Always Hope

40 “But maybe the people will confess their sins. And maybe they will confess the sins of their ancestors. Maybe they will admit that they turned against me. Maybe they will admit that they sinned against me. 41 Maybe they will admit that I turned against them and brought them into the land of their enemies. These people will be like strangers to me. But maybe they will become humble [ c ] and accept the punishment for their sin. 42 If they do, I will remember my agreement with Jacob. I will remember my agreement with Isaac. I will remember my agreement with Abraham, and I will remember the land.

43 “The land will be empty. The land will enjoy its time of rest. Then the survivors will accept the punishment for their sins. They will learn that they were punished because they hated my laws and refused to obey my rules. 44 They have sinned. But if they come to me for help, I will not turn away from them. I will listen to them, even if they are in the land of their enemies. I will not completely destroy them. I will not break my agreement with them, because I am the Lord their God. 45 For them, I will remember the agreement with their ancestors. I brought their ancestors out of the land of Egypt so that I could become their God. The other nations saw these things. I am the Lord .”

46 These are the laws, rules, and teachings that the Lord gave to the Israelites. These laws are the agreement between the Lord and the Israelites. The Lord gave these laws to Moses at Mount Sinai.

  1. Leviticus 26:2 special days of rest Or “Sabbaths.” This might mean Saturday, or it might mean all the special days when the people were not supposed to work.
  2. Leviticus 26:19 The skies … crops Literally, “Your skies will be like iron, your land like bronze.”
  3. Leviticus 26:41 These people … humble Literally, “If they humble their uncircumcised heart.”

26 Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the Lord your God.

2 Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the Lord .

3 If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them;

4 Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.

5 And your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time: and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.

6 And I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land.

7 And ye shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword.

8 And five of you shall chase an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.

9 For I will have respect unto you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and establish my covenant with you.

10 And ye shall eat old store, and bring forth the old because of the new.

11 And I set my tabernacle among you: and my soul shall not abhor you.

12 And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people.

13 I am the Lord your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you go upright.

14 But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments;

15 And if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant:

16 I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.

17 And I will set my face against you, and ye shall be slain before your enemies: they that hate you shall reign over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you.

18 And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.

19 And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass:

20 And your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits.

21 And if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins.

22 I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your high ways shall be desolate.

23 And if ye will not be reformed by me by these things, but will walk contrary unto me;

24 Then will I also walk contrary unto you, and will punish you yet seven times for your sins.

25 And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall avenge the quarrel of my covenant: and when ye are gathered together within your cities, I will send the pestilence among you; and ye shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.

26 And when I have broken the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver you your bread again by weight: and ye shall eat, and not be satisfied.

27 And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me;

28 Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.

29 And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.

30 And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you.

31 And I will make your cities waste, and bring your sanctuaries unto desolation, and I will not smell the savour of your sweet odours.

32 And I will bring the land into desolation: and your enemies which dwell therein shall be astonished at it.

33 And I will scatter you among the heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste.

34 Then shall the land enjoy her sabbaths, as long as it lieth desolate, and ye be in your enemies' land; even then shall the land rest, and enjoy her sabbaths.

35 As long as it lieth desolate it shall rest; because it did not rest in your sabbaths, when ye dwelt upon it.

36 And upon them that are left alive of you I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; and the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee, as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall when none pursueth.

37 And they shall fall one upon another, as it were before a sword, when none pursueth: and ye shall have no power to stand before your enemies.

38 And ye shall perish among the heathen, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up.

39 And they that are left of you shall pine away in their iniquity in your enemies' lands; and also in the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away with them.

40 If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me;

41 And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity:

42 Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.

43 The land also shall be left of them, and shall enjoy her sabbaths, while she lieth desolate without them: and they shall accept of the punishment of their iniquity: because, even because they despised my judgments, and because their soul abhorred my statutes.

44 And yet for all that, when they be in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the Lord their God.

45 But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God: I am the Lord .

46 These are the statutes and judgments and laws, which the Lord made between him and the children of Israel in mount Sinai by the hand of Moses.

Blessings of Obedience

26 ‘You shall not make for yourselves ( A ) idols, nor shall you set up for yourselves ( B ) a carved image or ( C ) a memorial stone, nor shall you place a ( D ) figured stone in your land to bow down [ a ] to it; for I am the Lord your God. 2 ( E ) You shall keep My Sabbaths and revere My sanctuary; I am the Lord . 3 ( F ) If you walk in My statutes and keep My commandments so as to carry them out, 4 then ( G ) I shall give you rains in their season, so that the land will yield its produce and the trees of the field will bear their fruit. 5 ( H ) Indeed, your threshing season will last for you until grape gathering, and grape gathering will last until sowing time. So you will eat your [ b ] food to the full and ( I ) live securely in your land. 6 ( J ) I shall also grant peace in the land, so that ( K ) you may lie down, with no one to make you afraid. ( L ) I shall also eliminate harmful animals from the land, and ( M ) no sword will pass through your land. 7 Instead, you will chase your enemies, and they will fall before you by the sword; 8 ( N ) five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand; and your enemies will fall before you by the sword. 9 So I will turn toward you and ( O ) make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will ( P ) confirm My covenant with you. 10 And ( Q ) you will eat the old supply, and clear out the old because of the new. 11 ( R ) Moreover, I will make My [ c ] dwelling among you, and My soul will not [ d ] reject you. 12 ( S ) I will also walk among you and be your God, and you shall be My people. 13 ( T ) I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt so that you would not be their slaves, and ( U ) I broke your yoke and made you walk erect.

Penalties of Disobedience

14 ( V ) But if you do not obey Me and do not carry out all these commandments, 15 if, instead, you ( W ) reject My statutes, and if your soul loathes My ordinances so as not to carry out all My commandments, but rather to ( X ) break My covenant, 16 I, in turn, will do this to you: I will [ e ] summon a ( Y ) sudden terror against you, consumption and fever that will make the eyes fail and the ( Z ) soul languish; also, ( AA ) you will sow your seed uselessly, for your enemies will eat it. 17 And I will set My face against you so that you will be defeated before your enemies; and ( AB ) those who hate you will rule over you, and ( AC ) you will flee when no one is pursuing you. 18 If also after these things you do not obey Me, then I will punish you ( AD ) seven times more for your sins. 19 I will also ( AE ) break down your pride of power; and I will make your sky like iron and your earth like bronze. 20 ( AF ) Your strength will be consumed uselessly, for your land will not yield its produce and the trees of the land will not yield their fruit.

21 ‘Yet if you [ f ] ( AG ) show hostility toward Me and are unwilling to obey Me, I will increase the plague on you ( AH ) seven times according to your sins. 22 ( AI ) I will also let loose among you the animals of the field, which will deprive you of your children and eliminate your cattle, and reduce your number so that ( AJ ) your roads become deserted.

23 ( AK ) And if by these things you do not learn your lesson regarding Me, but you show hostility toward Me, 24 then I in turn will ( AL ) show hostility toward you; and I, even I, will strike you ( AM ) seven times for your sins. 25 I will also bring upon you a sword which will execute ( AN ) vengeance for the covenant; and when you gather together into your cities, I will send a ( AO ) plague among you, so that you will be handed over to the enemy. 26 ( AP ) When I break your staff of bread, ten women will bake your bread in one oven, and they will bring back your bread [ g ] in rationed amounts, so that you will ( AQ ) eat and not be satisfied.

27 ‘Yet if in spite of this you do not obey Me, but act with hostility against Me, 28 then ( AR ) I will act with wrathful hostility against you, and I for My part will punish you seven times for your sins. 29 Further, ( AS ) you will eat the flesh of your sons, and you will eat the flesh of your daughters. 30 I then ( AT ) will destroy your high places, and cut down your ( AU ) incense altars, and [ h ] pile your [ i ] remains on the [ j ] remains of your idols, for My soul will loathe you. 31 I will turn your cities into ( AV ) ruins as well and make your ( AW ) sanctuaries desolate, and I will not ( AX ) smell your soothing aromas. 32 And I will make ( AY ) the land desolate ( AZ ) so that your enemies who settle in it will be appalled at it. 33 You, however, I ( BA ) will scatter among the nations, and I will draw out a sword after you, as your land becomes desolate and your cities become ruins.

34 ( BB ) Then the land will restore its Sabbaths all the days of the desolation, while you are in your enemies’ land; then the land will rest and restore its Sabbaths. 35 All the days of its desolation it will have the rest which it did not have on your Sabbaths, while you were living on it. 36 As for those among you who are left, I will also bring ( BC ) despair into their hearts in the lands of their enemies. And the sound of a scattered leaf will chase them, and even when no one is pursuing they will flee [ k ] as though from the sword, and they will fall. 37 ( BD ) They will then stumble over each other as if running from the sword, although no one is pursuing; and you will have no strength to stand before your enemies. 38 Instead, ( BE ) you will perish among the nations, and your enemies’ land will consume you. 39 ( BF ) So those of you who may be left will rot away because of their wrongdoing in the lands of your enemies; and also because of the wrongdoing of their forefathers they will rot away with them.

40 ‘But ( BG ) if they confess their wrongdoing and the wrongdoing of their forefathers, in their unfaithfulness which they committed against Me, and also in their acting with hostility against Me— 41 I also was acting with hostility against them, to bring them into the land of their enemies— ( BH ) or if their uncircumcised heart is humbled so that ( BI ) they then make amends for their wrongdoing, 42 then I will remember ( BJ ) My covenant with Jacob, and I will remember also ( BK ) My covenant with Isaac, and ( BL ) My covenant with Abraham as well, and I will remember the land. 43 ( BM ) For the land will be abandoned by them, and will restore its Sabbaths while it is made desolate without them. They, meanwhile, will be making amends for their wrongdoing, [ l ] because they rejected My ordinances and their ( BN ) soul loathed My statutes. 44 Yet in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them, nor will I so ( BO ) loathe them as ( BP ) to destroy them, ( BQ ) breaking My covenant with them; for I am the Lord their God. 45 But I will remember for them the ( BR ) covenant with their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, so that ( BS ) I might be their God. I am the Lord .’”

46 ( BT ) These are the statutes and ordinances and laws which the Lord established between Himself and the sons of Israel [ m ] through Moses on Mount Sinai.

21 “‘If you remain hostile ( AW ) toward me and refuse to listen to me, I will multiply your afflictions seven times over, ( AX ) as your sins deserve. 22 I will send wild animals ( AY ) against you, and they will rob you of your children, destroy your cattle and make you so few ( AZ ) in number that your roads will be deserted. 23 “‘If in spite of these things you do not accept my correction ( BB ) but continue to be hostile toward me, 24 I myself will be hostile ( BC ) toward you and will afflict you for your sins seven times over. 25 And I will bring the sword ( BD ) on you to avenge ( BE ) the breaking of the covenant. When you withdraw into your cities, I will send a plague ( BF ) among you, and you will be given into enemy hands. 26 When I cut off your supply of bread, ( BG ) ten women will be able to bake your bread in one oven, and they will dole out the bread by weight. You will eat, but you will not be satisfied.

27 “‘If in spite of this you still do not listen to me ( BH ) but continue to be hostile toward me, 28 then in my anger ( BI ) I will be hostile ( BJ ) toward you, and I myself will punish you for your sins seven times over. ( BK ) 29 You will eat ( BL ) the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters. ( BM ) 30 I will destroy your high places, ( BN ) cut down your incense altars ( BO ) and pile your dead bodies [ b ] on the lifeless forms of your idols, ( BP ) and I will abhor ( BQ ) you. 31 I will turn your cities into ruins ( BR ) and lay waste ( BS ) your sanctuaries, ( BT ) and I will take no delight in the pleasing aroma of your offerings. ( BU ) 32 I myself will lay waste the land, ( BV ) so that your enemies who live there will be appalled. ( BW ) 33 I will scatter ( BX ) you among the nations ( BY ) and will draw out my sword ( BZ ) and pursue you. Your land will be laid waste, ( CA ) and your cities will lie in ruins. ( CB ) 34 Then the land will enjoy its sabbath years all the time that it lies desolate ( CC ) and you are in the country of your enemies; ( CD ) then the land will rest and enjoy its sabbaths. 35 All the time that it lies desolate, the land will have the rest ( CE ) it did not have during the sabbaths you lived in it.

36 “‘As for those of you who are left, I will make their hearts so fearful in the lands of their enemies that the sound of a windblown leaf ( CF ) will put them to flight. ( CG ) They will run as though fleeing from the sword, and they will fall, even though no one is pursuing them. ( CH ) 37 They will stumble over one another ( CI ) as though fleeing from the sword, even though no one is pursuing them. So you will not be able to stand before your enemies. ( CJ ) 38 You will perish ( CK ) among the nations; the land of your enemies will devour you. ( CL ) 39 Those of you who are left will waste away in the lands of their enemies because of their sins; also because of their ancestors’ ( CM ) sins they will waste away. ( CN )

40 “‘But if they will confess ( CO ) their sins ( CP ) and the sins of their ancestors ( CQ ) —their unfaithfulness and their hostility toward me, 41 which made me hostile ( CR ) toward them so that I sent them into the land of their enemies—then when their uncircumcised hearts ( CS ) are humbled ( CT ) and they pay ( CU ) for their sin, 42 I will remember my covenant with Jacob ( CV ) and my covenant with Isaac ( CW ) and my covenant with Abraham, ( CX ) and I will remember the land. 43 For the land will be deserted ( CY ) by them and will enjoy its sabbaths while it lies desolate without them. They will pay for their sins because they rejected ( CZ ) my laws and abhorred my decrees. ( DA ) 44 Yet in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies, ( DB ) I will not reject them or abhor ( DC ) them so as to destroy them completely, ( DD ) breaking my covenant ( DE ) with them. I am the Lord their God. 45 But for their sake I will remember ( DF ) the covenant with their ancestors whom I brought out of Egypt ( DG ) in the sight of the nations to be their God. I am the Lord .’”

46 These are the decrees, the laws and the regulations that the Lord established at Mount Sinai ( DH ) between himself and the Israelites through Moses. ( DI )
