22 The Lord said to Moses, 2 ‘Israel's people give gifts to God. Those gifts are holy. Tell Aaron and his sons that those things are holy. Tell them that they must remember that. They must give honour to my name. I am the Lord .
3 One of your sons may not be clean. That son must not come near the Lord 's holy offerings. But perhaps he may not obey my rule. He might go near to the holy gifts. The priests who are clean must punish him. They must send him away. He must go from God's house. I am the Lord . This rule is for now and for all time. 4 If a son of Aaron has a skin disease, he must not eat the holy gifts. If pus is coming from his body, he is not clean. He must not eat the holy offerings until he is clean. He might touch something that has touched a dead body. Or if he touches an unclean man, he will become unclean. The man may be unclean because semen is coming from his body. 5 Aaron's son might touch an animal that moves on its stomach. Or he might touch a person who is not clean. If he does, Aaron's son will be unclean. 6 The son of Aaron who touches any of these things will be unclean until evening. He must not eat any of the holy gifts until he washes his body. 7 When the sun goes down, he will be clean. He can eat the holy gifts. They are his food. 8 He might find something that is dead. He must not eat it. He must not eat anything that an animal has torn. It will make him unclean. I am the Lord .
9 Aaron's sons must obey God's rules. If they do not obey them, it is a sin. They will die. I am the Lord who makes people holy. 10 Only a person who is from the priest's family can eat the holy gifts. Another person who is living in the priest's house must not eat the holy gifts. If a person is being paid to work for the priest, he must not eat the holy gifts. 11 A slave can eat the holy gifts if he was born in the priest's house. Or he can eat the holy gifts if the priest bought him. 12 A priest's daughter might marry a man who is not a priest. If she has done that, she must not eat the holy food. 13 A priest's daughter's husband might send her away. Or her husband might die. She might not have any children. She may go back to live in her father's house. Then she can eat her father's food.
14 A person might make a mistake and eat a holy gift. He must give back to the priest the same food. He must also give one fifth more. 15 The priest must not give the Lord 's holy gifts to people who are not from Aaron's family. The gifts would become unclean. 16 If the people eat them they are sinning. They will have to pay for their sin. I am the Lord and I make them holy.’
17 The Lord said to Moses, 18 ‘Say this to Aaron, to his sons and to all the people. If any person gives a gift to the Lord , 19 he must give a bull, a sheep or a goat. The gift may be for a promise, or to thank God for something or for a friendship offering. The animal must be perfect. 20 They must not give any animal that is not perfect. The Lord will not accept that animal. 21 When a person brings an animal to the Lord as a special gift, it must be perfect. If it is, God will accept it. 22 A person must not give to the Lord an animal that cannot see. The animal must not have a skin disease. And pus must not be coming from its body. The person must not burn an animal to the Lord on the altar that is not perfect. 23 A person may give a bull or a sheep with a body that is the wrong shape. He can use it as an offering to eat with his friends (friendship offering). But God will not take this animal as a gift for a promise. That gift must be perfect. You must not put on the altar an animal that is not perfect. 24 A person must not give a gift to the Lord of an animal that has something wrong with its testicles. 25 This rule is for Israel's people. You must not take animals from foreigners and then offer them to God as sacrifices. God will not accept them on your behalf, because animals like that are not perfect.’
26 The Lord said to Moses, 27 ‘When a cow or a sheep or a goat is born, it must stay with its mother for seven days. From the eighth day the people can give it as a burnt offering to the Lord . 28 They must not kill a cow or a sheep and its baby on the same day.
29 When they sacrifice an animal to thank the Lord , they must sacrifice it in the proper way. This will give the Lord pleasure. 30 They must eat it on the day that they kill it. They must not keep any of it until the next day. I am the Lord .
31 The people must obey my rules. I am the Lord . 32 They must give honour to my holy name. My people must believe that I am holy. I am the Lord . I make people holy. 33 I brought you out of Egypt and I became your God. I am the Lord .’
22 The Lord God said to Moses, 2 “Tell Aaron and his sons: The gifts that the Israelites bring to me become holy. They belong to me, so you priests must show respect for these things. If you don’t, you will show that you don’t respect my holy name. I am the Lord . 3 If any one of your descendants touches these things, that person will become unclean. That person must be separated from me. The Israelites gave these things to me. I am the Lord .
4 “If any of Aaron’s descendants has a serious skin disease [ a ] or a discharge, he cannot eat the holy food until he becomes clean. This rule is for any priest who becomes unclean. That priest can become unclean from a dead body or from his own semen. 5 He can also become unclean if he touches any unclean crawling animal. And he can become unclean if he touches an unclean person. It doesn’t matter what made that person unclean. 6 If he touches any of these things, he will become unclean until evening. He must not eat any of the holy food. Even if he washes with water, he cannot eat the holy food. 7 He will be clean only after the sun goes down. Then he can eat the holy food because it is his share.
8 “A priest must not eat any animal that died by itself or that was killed by wild animals. If he eats that animal, he will be unclean. I am the Lord .
9 “The priests must be very careful when it comes time to serve me. They must be careful not to dishonor the holy things. If they are careful, they will not die. I, the Lord , have separated them from the rest of the people for this special job. 10 Only a priest’s family can eat the holy food. A visitor staying with the priest or a hired worker must not eat any of the holy food. 11 But if the priest buys a person as a slave with his own money, that person may eat some of the holy things. Slaves who were born in the priest’s house may also eat some of the priest’s food. 12 A priest’s daughter might marry a man who is not a priest. If she does that, she cannot eat any of the holy offerings. 13 A priest’s daughter might become a widow, or she might be divorced. If she does not have any children to support her, and she goes back to her father’s house where she lived as a child, she can eat some of her father’s food. But only people from a priest’s family can eat this food.
14 “Whoever eats some of the holy food by mistake must give the priest the price of that food and add another one-fifth of the price as a fine.
15 “The Israelites will bring offerings to the Lord . These offerings become holy, so the priests must not let them be used in a wrong way. 16 They must not let the people eat these offerings. If they do, they are guilty of doing wrong, and they must pay for it. I am the Lord , the one who makes these offerings holy.”
17 The Lord God said to Moses, 18 “Tell Aaron and his sons and all the Israelites: A citizen of Israel or a foreigner might want to bring an offering. It might be because of a promise that person made, or it might just be a special sacrifice that person wanted to give to the Lord as a burnt offering. 19-20 These are gifts that the people bring because they really want to give a gift to God. If the gift is a bull, or a sheep, or a goat, the animal must be a male. And it must not have anything wrong with it. You must not accept any offering that has anything wrong with it. I will not accept that gift.
21 “You might bring a fellowship offering to the Lord . That fellowship offering might be payment for a special promise that you made. Or maybe it is a special gift that you wanted to give to the Lord. It can be a bull or a sheep, but it must be healthy. There must be nothing wrong with that animal. 22 You must not offer to the Lord any animal that is blind, that has broken bones or is crippled, or that has a discharge or a serious skin disease. You must not offer sick animals as a gift to the Lord . You must not put anything like that on his altar.
23 “Sometimes a bull or lamb will have a leg that is too long, or a foot that did not grow right. If you want to give that animal as a special gift to the Lord, it will be accepted. But it will not be accepted as payment for a special promise that you made.
24 “If an animal has bruised, crushed, or torn testicles, you must not offer that animal to the Lord . You must not do this anywhere in your land.
25 “You must not take animals from foreigners as sacrifices to your God. The animals might have been hurt in some way. They might have something wrong with them, so they will not be accepted.”
26 The Lord said to Moses, 27 “When a calf, or a sheep, or a goat is born, it must stay seven days with its mother. Then from the eighth day on, this animal will be accepted as a sacrifice offered as a gift to the Lord . 28 But you must not kill the animal and its mother on the same day. This rule is the same for cattle and sheep.
29 “If you want to offer some special offering of thanks to the Lord , you are free to offer that gift. But you must do it in a way that pleases God. 30 You must eat the whole animal that day. You must not leave any of the meat for the next morning. I am the Lord .
31 “Remember my commands, and obey them. I am the Lord . 32 Show respect for my holy name. I must be very special to the Israelites. I, the Lord , have made you my special people. 33 I brought you out of Egypt in order to be your God. I am the Lord .”
22 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Speak unto Aaron and to his sons, that they separate themselves from the holy things of the children of Israel, and that they profane not my holy name in those things which they hallow unto me: I am the Lord .
3 Say unto them, Whosoever he be of all your seed among your generations, that goeth unto the holy things, which the children of Israel hallow unto the Lord , having his uncleanness upon him, that soul shall be cut off from my presence: I am the Lord .
4 What man soever of the seed of Aaron is a leper, or hath a running issue; he shall not eat of the holy things, until he be clean. And whoso toucheth any thing that is unclean by the dead, or a man whose seed goeth from him;
5 Or whosoever toucheth any creeping thing, whereby he may be made unclean, or a man of whom he may take uncleanness, whatsoever uncleanness he hath;
6 The soul which hath touched any such shall be unclean until even, and shall not eat of the holy things, unless he wash his flesh with water.
7 And when the sun is down, he shall be clean, and shall afterward eat of the holy things; because it is his food.
8 That which dieth of itself, or is torn with beasts, he shall not eat to defile himself therewith; I am the Lord .
9 They shall therefore keep mine ordinance, lest they bear sin for it, and die therefore, if they profane it: I the Lord do sanctify them.
10 There shall no stranger eat of the holy thing: a sojourner of the priest, or an hired servant, shall not eat of the holy thing.
11 But if the priest buy any soul with his money, he shall eat of it, and he that is born in his house: they shall eat of his meat.
12 If the priest's daughter also be married unto a stranger, she may not eat of an offering of the holy things.
13 But if the priest's daughter be a widow, or divorced, and have no child, and is returned unto her father's house, as in her youth, she shall eat of her father's meat: but there shall be no stranger eat thereof.
14 And if a man eat of the holy thing unwittingly, then he shall put the fifth part thereof unto it, and shall give it unto the priest with the holy thing.
15 And they shall not profane the holy things of the children of Israel, which they offer unto the Lord ;
16 Or suffer them to bear the iniquity of trespass, when they eat their holy things: for I the Lord do sanctify them.
17 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
18 Speak unto Aaron, and to his sons, and unto all the children of Israel, and say unto them, Whatsoever he be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers in Israel, that will offer his oblation for all his vows, and for all his freewill offerings, which they will offer unto the Lord for a burnt offering;
19 Ye shall offer at your own will a male without blemish, of the beeves, of the sheep, or of the goats.
20 But whatsoever hath a blemish, that shall ye not offer: for it shall not be acceptable for you.
21 And whosoever offereth a sacrifice of peace offerings unto the Lord to accomplish his vow, or a freewill offering in beeves or sheep, it shall be perfect to be accepted; there shall be no blemish therein.
22 Blind, or broken, or maimed, or having a wen, or scurvy, or scabbed, ye shall not offer these unto the Lord , nor make an offering by fire of them upon the altar unto the Lord .
23 Either a bullock or a lamb that hath any thing superfluous or lacking in his parts, that mayest thou offer for a freewill offering; but for a vow it shall not be accepted.
24 Ye shall not offer unto the Lord that which is bruised, or crushed, or broken, or cut; neither shall ye make any offering thereof in your land.
25 Neither from a stranger's hand shall ye offer the bread of your God of any of these; because their corruption is in them, and blemishes be in them: they shall not be accepted for you.
26 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
27 When a bullock, or a sheep, or a goat, is brought forth, then it shall be seven days under the dam; and from the eighth day and thenceforth it shall be accepted for an offering made by fire unto the Lord .
28 And whether it be cow, or ewe, ye shall not kill it and her young both in one day.
29 And when ye will offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving unto the Lord , offer it at your own will.
30 On the same day it shall be eaten up; ye shall leave none of it until the morrow: I am the Lord .
31 Therefore shall ye keep my commandments, and do them: I am the Lord .
32 Neither shall ye profane my holy name; but I will be hallowed among the children of Israel: I am the Lord which hallow you,
33 That brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the Lord .
22 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Tell Aaron and his sons to be careful with the holy gifts of the sons of Israel, which they dedicate to Me, so as not to profane My holy name; I am the Lord . 3 Say to them, ‘ ( A ) Any man among all your [ a ] descendants throughout your generations who approaches the holy gifts which the sons of Israel consecrate to the Lord , while he has an uncleanness, that person shall be cut off from My presence; I am the Lord . 4 ( B ) No man of the [ b ] descendants of Aaron, who has [ c ] leprosy or has a discharge, may eat of the holy gifts until he is clean. ( C ) And one who touches anything made unclean by a corpse, or ( D ) a man who has a seminal emission, 5 or ( E ) a man who touches any swarming things by which he is made unclean, or touches any person by whom he is made unclean, whatever his uncleanness; 6 a [ d ] person who touches any such thing shall be unclean until evening, and shall not eat of the holy gifts unless he has bathed his [ e ] body in water. 7 But when the sun sets, he will be clean, and afterward he may eat of the holy gifts , for ( F ) it is his [ f ] food. 8 He shall not eat ( G ) an animal which dies or is torn by animals , becoming unclean by it; I am the Lord . 9 They shall therefore perform their ( H ) duty to Me, so that ( I ) they do not bear sin because of it and die by it because they profane it; I am the Lord who sanctifies them.
10 ‘ ( J ) No [ g ] layman, however, is to eat the holy gift ; a foreign resident with the priest or a hired worker shall not eat the holy gift . 11 ( K ) But if a priest buys a [ h ] slave as his property with his money, [ i ] that person may eat of it, and those who are born in his house may eat of his [ j ] food. 12 If a priest’s daughter is married to a [ k ] layman, she shall not eat of the [ l ] offering of the holy gifts . 13 But if a priest’s daughter becomes a widow or divorced, and has no child and returns to her father’s house as in her youth, she may eat of her father’s [ m ] food; ( L ) but no [ n ] layman shall eat of it. 14 ( M ) If, however, someone eats a holy food unintentionally, then he shall add to it a fifth of it and shall give the holy food to the priest. 15 And ( N ) they shall not profane the holy gifts of the sons of Israel, which they offer to the Lord , 16 and thereby ( O ) bring upon them [ o ] punishment for guilt by eating their holy gifts ; for I am the Lord who sanctifies them.’”
17 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 18 “Speak to Aaron and to his sons, and to all the sons of Israel, and say to them, ‘ ( P ) Anyone of the house of Israel or of the strangers in Israel who presents his offering, whether it is any of their [ p ] vows or any of their [ q ] voluntary offerings, which they present to the Lord as a burnt offering— 19 ( Q ) for you to be accepted— it must be a male without defect [ r ] from the cattle, the sheep, or the goats. 20 ( R ) Whatever has a defect, you shall not offer, for it will not be accepted for you. 21 When someone offers a sacrifice of peace offerings to the Lord ( S ) to fulfill a special vow or for a [ s ] voluntary offering, [ t ] of the herd or [ u ] of the flock, it must be without defect to be accepted; there shall be no defect in it. 22 Those that are blind, fractured, maimed, or have a wart, a festering rash, or scabs, you shall not offer to the Lord , nor make of them an offering by fire on the altar to the Lord . 23 Now as for an ox or a lamb which has an [ v ] overgrown or stunted member , you may present it as a [ w ] voluntary offering, but for a vow it will not be accepted. 24 Also ( T ) anything with its testicles squashed, crushed, torn off, or cut off, you shall not offer to the Lord , nor [ x ] sacrifice in your land, 25 nor shall you offer any of these animals taken from the hand of a [ y ] foreigner ( U ) as the [ z ] food of your God; for their deformity is in them, they have an impairment. They will not be accepted for you.’”
26 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 27 “When an ox or a sheep or a goat is born, it shall [ aa ] remain ( V ) seven days [ ab ] with its mother, and from the eighth day on it will be considered acceptable as a sacrifice of an offering by fire to the Lord . 28 ( W ) But, whether it is an ox or a sheep, you shall not slaughter both it and its young in one day. 29 When you sacrifice ( X ) a sacrifice of thanksgiving to the Lord , you shall sacrifice it so that you may be accepted. 30 It shall be eaten on the same day; you shall leave none of it until morning. I am the Lord . 31 ( Y ) So you shall keep My commandments, and do them; I am the Lord .
32 “And you shall not profane My holy name, but I will be sanctified among the sons of Israel; I am the Lord who sanctifies you, 33 ( Z ) who brought you out from the land of Egypt, to be your God; I am the Lord .”
22 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Tell Aaron and his sons to treat with respect the sacred offerings ( A ) the Israelites consecrate to me, so they will not profane my holy name. ( B ) I am the Lord . ( C )
3 “Say to them: ‘For the generations to come, if any of your descendants is ceremonially unclean and yet comes near the sacred offerings that the Israelites consecrate to the Lord , ( D ) that person must be cut off from my presence. ( E ) I am the Lord .
4 “‘If a descendant of Aaron has a defiling skin disease [ a ] or a bodily discharge, ( F ) he may not eat the sacred offerings until he is cleansed. He will also be unclean if he touches something defiled by a corpse ( G ) or by anyone who has an emission of semen, 5 or if he touches any crawling thing ( H ) that makes him unclean, or any person ( I ) who makes him unclean, whatever the uncleanness may be. 6 The one who touches any such thing will be unclean ( J ) till evening. ( K ) He must not eat any of the sacred offerings unless he has bathed himself with water. ( L ) 7 When the sun goes down, he will be clean, and after that he may eat the sacred offerings, for they are his food. ( M ) 8 He must not eat anything found dead ( N ) or torn by wild animals, ( O ) and so become unclean ( P ) through it. I am the Lord . ( Q )
9 “‘The priests are to perform my service ( R ) in such a way that they do not become guilty ( S ) and die ( T ) for treating it with contempt. I am the Lord , who makes them holy. ( U )
10 “‘No one outside a priest’s family may eat the sacred offering, nor may the guest of a priest or his hired worker eat it. ( V ) 11 But if a priest buys a slave with money, or if slaves are born in his household, they may eat his food. ( W ) 12 If a priest’s daughter marries anyone other than a priest, she may not eat any of the sacred contributions. 13 But if a priest’s daughter becomes a widow or is divorced, yet has no children, and she returns to live in her father’s household as in her youth, she may eat her father’s food. No unauthorized person, however, may eat it.
14 “‘Anyone who eats a sacred offering by mistake ( X ) must make restitution to the priest for the offering and add a fifth of the value ( Y ) to it. 15 The priests must not desecrate the sacred offerings ( Z ) the Israelites present to the Lord ( AA ) 16 by allowing them to eat ( AB ) the sacred offerings and so bring upon them guilt ( AC ) requiring payment. ( AD ) I am the Lord , who makes them holy. ( AE ) ’”
17 The Lord said to Moses, 18 “Speak to Aaron and his sons and to all the Israelites and say to them: ‘If any of you—whether an Israelite or a foreigner residing in Israel ( AF ) —presents a gift ( AG ) for a burnt offering to the Lord , either to fulfill a vow ( AH ) or as a freewill offering, ( AI ) 19 you must present a male without defect ( AJ ) from the cattle, sheep or goats in order that it may be accepted on your behalf. ( AK ) 20 Do not bring anything with a defect, ( AL ) because it will not be accepted on your behalf. ( AM ) 21 When anyone brings from the herd or flock ( AN ) a fellowship offering ( AO ) to the Lord to fulfill a special vow or as a freewill offering, ( AP ) it must be without defect or blemish ( AQ ) to be acceptable. ( AR ) 22 Do not offer to the Lord the blind, the injured or the maimed, or anything with warts or festering or running sores. Do not place any of these on the altar as a food offering presented to the Lord . 23 You may, however, present as a freewill offering an ox [ b ] or a sheep that is deformed or stunted, but it will not be accepted in fulfillment of a vow. 24 You must not offer to the Lord an animal whose testicles are bruised, crushed, torn or cut. ( AS ) You must not do this in your own land, 25 and you must not accept such animals from the hand of a foreigner and offer them as the food of your God. ( AT ) They will not be accepted on your behalf, because they are deformed and have defects. ( AU ) ’”
26 The Lord said to Moses, 27 “When a calf, a lamb or a goat ( AV ) is born, it is to remain with its mother for seven days. ( AW ) From the eighth day ( AX ) on, it will be acceptable ( AY ) as a food offering presented to the Lord . 28 Do not slaughter a cow or a sheep and its young on the same day. ( AZ )
29 “When you sacrifice a thank offering ( BA ) to the Lord , sacrifice it in such a way that it will be accepted on your behalf. 30 It must be eaten that same day; leave none of it till morning. ( BB ) I am the Lord . ( BC )
31 “Keep ( BD ) my commands and follow them. ( BE ) I am the Lord . 32 Do not profane my holy name, ( BF ) for I must be acknowledged as holy by the Israelites. ( BG ) I am the Lord , who made you holy ( BH ) 33 and who brought you out of Egypt ( BI ) to be your God. ( BJ ) I am the Lord .”
