Genesis 3 narrates the story of the fall of man. In the Garden of Eden, God commands Adam and Eve not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. However, they are deceived by the serpent, who convinces Eve to eat the fruit from the forbidden tree, and she also gives some to Adam. Upon eating the fruit, they become aware of their nakedness and cover themselves with fig leaves. When God discovers what they have done, He curses the serpent, and announces various consequences for Adam and Eve's disobedience, including pain in childbirth for Eve and hard toil to obtain food from the earth for Adam. God then banishes them from the Garden of Eden to prevent them from eating from the tree of life and becoming immortal.
