—Verse we studied today
“A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet.” (1 Timothy 2:11-12 NIV)
- This does not mean you have to be silent and “never” speak. You can talk in church and share your thoughts or ask questions. That is allowed.
- This verse is saying women are to be quiet for the role of pastors because they are not permitted by God to lead over men. This is the word of God, not of man.
- “To the woman he said, “I will make your pains in childbearing very severe; with painful labor you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.” Genesis 3:16 NIV
- Eve isn’t the only one to blame; she didn’t force Adam to eat the forbidden fruit. But she gave the fruit to Adam and he ate it and listened to his wife.
- “When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.” Genesis 3:6 NIV
- That was her unknowingly asserting authority over him. Which is why all women afterwards are told not to follow the path that Eve took.
- Yes, women can teach other women and children.
- Women are actually encouraged to teach and share wisdom to other women. We all have different gifts and talents so we can of course use those in the church ️ woman simply can’t be pastors over men.
- Putting aside our desires.. is this something you agree with? It isn’t easy to accept but we have to decide if we would rather choose our desires or God’s desires.. He knows best and he wouldn’t tell us this to harm us.
