Words for everyone to read

5 Again, I looked and I saw a large paper. It was moving through the air. There were many words on the paper.

2 The angel said to me, ‘What do you see?’ And I answered, ‘I see a paper that is flying through the air. It is 30 feet long and 15 feet wide.’

3 Then the angel said to me, ‘The words on the paper tell about bad events for the whole earth. This will be in future years. On one side of the paper, it says that a man must not rob anyone. If he does, people will send him away from his own country. On the other side of the paper, it says that a man must not speak false words. If he does, people will send him away from his own country. 4 The Lord Almighty says, “I will cause bad things to happen in the house of the man that robs anyone. I will cause bad things to happen in the house of the man that speaks false words. It is as if the words on the paper will destroy the houses of those bad people.” ’

The woman in the basket

5 Then the angel that talked to me came near to me. He said, ‘Look. And see the thing that has just appeared.’

6 I said, ‘What is it?’

He said, ‘It is a basket that people measure with.’ Then he said, ‘It is the sin of all the people in this country.’

7 He lifted the heavy metal lid and there was a woman. She was sitting in the basket!

8 The angel said, ‘This is sin.’ He pushed her into the basket again and he put the heavy metal lid on top of the basket.

9 Then I looked up and I saw two women. They flew towards me with strong wings. The wind carried them as the wind carries large birds. They lifted the basket between the earth and the sky.

10 Then I said to the angel that talked with me, ‘Where will these women take the basket?’

11 The angel said to me, ‘They will take the basket to the country called Babylon. They will build a house for it there. When the house is ready, they will put the basket inside the house. They will put it where people can see it.’

The Flying Scroll

5 I looked up again, and I saw a flying scroll. 2 The angel asked me, “What do you see?”

I said, “I see a flying scroll that is 30 feet [ a ] long and 15 feet [ b ] wide.”

3 Then the angel told me, “There is a curse written on that scroll. On one side of the scroll, there is a curse against thieves and on the other side is a curse against people who lie when they make promises. 4 The Lord All-Powerful says, ‘I will send that scroll to the houses of thieves and people who lie when they use my name to make promises. That scroll will settle there and destroy even the stones and wooden posts of their houses.’”

The Woman and the Bucket

5 The angel who was talking to me went outside and said, “Look! What do you see coming?”

6 I said, “I don’t know. What is it?”

He said, “That is a measuring bucket.” He also said, “That bucket is for measuring the sins [ c ] of the people in this country.”

7 A lid made of lead was lifted off the bucket, and there was a woman in the bucket. 8 The angel said, “The woman represents evil.” Then the angel pushed the woman down into the bucket and put the lead lid back on it. 9 Then I looked up and saw two women with wings like a stork. They flew out, and with the wind in their wings, they picked up the bucket. They flew through the air carrying the bucket. 10 Then I asked the angel who was speaking with me, “Where are they carrying the bucket?”

11 The angel told me, “They are going to build a house for it in Babylonia. [ d ] After they build that house, they will put the bucket there.”

5 Then I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a flying roll.

2 And he said unto me, What seest thou? And I answered, I see a flying roll; the length thereof is twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof ten cubits.

3 Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it.

4 I will bring it forth, saith the Lord of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.

5 Then the angel that talked with me went forth, and said unto me, Lift up now thine eyes, and see what is this that goeth forth.

6 And I said, What is it? And he said, This is an ephah that goeth forth. He said moreover, This is their resemblance through all the earth.

7 And, behold, there was lifted up a talent of lead: and this is a woman that sitteth in the midst of the ephah.

8 And he said, This is wickedness. And he cast it into the midst of the ephah; and he cast the weight of lead upon the mouth thereof.

9 Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork: and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heaven.

10 Then said I to the angel that talked with me, Whither do these bear the ephah?

11 And he said unto me, To build it an house in the land of Shinar: and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base.

The Flying Scroll

5 Then I raised my eyes again and looked, and behold, there was a flying ( A ) scroll. 2 And he said to me, “ ( B ) What do you see?” And I said, “I see a flying scroll; its length is [ a ] twenty cubits, and its width ten cubits.” 3 Then he said to me, “This is the ( C ) curse that is going forth over the face of the entire [ b ] land; everyone who ( D ) steals certainly will be purged away according to [ c ] the writing on one side, and everyone who ( E ) swears falsely will be purged away according to [ d ] the writing on the other side. 4 I will ( F ) make it go forth,” declares the Lord of armies, “and it will ( G ) enter the house of the ( H ) thief and the house of the one who swears falsely by My name; and it will spend the night within that house and ( I ) destroy it with its timber and stones.”

5 Then ( J ) the angel who had been speaking with me went out and said to me, “Now raise your eyes and see what this is that is going forth.” 6 And I said, “What is it?” Then he said, “This is the [ e ] ( K ) ephah going forth.” Again he said, “This is their [ f ] appearance in all the [ g ] land. 7 And behold, a lead cover was lifted up.” He continued , “And this is a woman sitting inside the ephah.” 8 Then he said, “This is ( L ) Wickedness!” And he thrust her into the middle of the ephah and threw the lead weight on its [ h ] opening. 9 Then I raised my eyes and looked, and there two women were coming out with the wind in their wings; and they had wings like the wings of the ( M ) stork, and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heavens. 10 So I said to the angel who was speaking with me, “Where are they taking the ephah?” 11 Then he said to me, “To build a [ i ] temple for her in the land of ( N ) Shinar; and when it is prepared, she will be set there on her own pedestal.”

The Flying Scroll

5 I looked again, and there before me was a flying scroll. ( A )

2 He asked me, “What do you see?” ( B )

I answered, “I see a flying scroll, twenty cubits long and ten cubits wide. [ a ]

3 And he said to me, “This is the curse ( C ) that is going out over the whole land; for according to what it says on one side, every thief ( D ) will be banished, and according to what it says on the other, everyone who swears falsely ( E ) will be banished. 4 The Lord Almighty declares, ‘I will send it out, and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of anyone who swears falsely ( F ) by my name. It will remain in that house and destroy it completely, both its timbers and its stones. ( G ) ’”

The Woman in a Basket

5 Then the angel who was speaking to me came forward and said to me, “Look up and see what is appearing.”

6 I asked, “What is it?”

He replied, “It is a basket. ( H ) ” And he added, “This is the iniquity [ b ] of the people throughout the land.”

7 Then the cover of lead was raised, and there in the basket sat a woman! 8 He said, “This is wickedness,” and he pushed her back into the basket and pushed its lead cover down on it. ( I )

9 Then I looked up—and there before me were two women, with the wind in their wings! They had wings like those of a stork, ( J ) and they lifted up the basket between heaven and earth.

10 “Where are they taking the basket?” I asked the angel who was speaking to me.

11 He replied, “To the country of Babylonia [ c ] ( K ) to build a house ( L ) for it. When the house is ready, the basket will be set there in its place.” ( M )
