- Zechariah Chapter 14
14 There will be a day when your enemies will take away everything. They will take away everything that is yours. They will each have some of your things.
2 I will bring soldiers from all countries to fight against Jerusalem. They will go into the city and they will rob the houses. They will have sex with the women. They will lead away half the people to other countries. They will let the other half stay in Jerusalem.
3 Then the Lord will go out. And he will fight against the people from those countries as in past years.
4 On that day, the Lord 's feet will stand on the Mount of Olives. This mountain is east of Jerusalem. It will break in two from east to west and it will make a wide valley. Half of the mountain will move north and half of the mountain will move south.
5 In the time of Uzziah, king of Judah, you ran away when the earth moved. You will do this again. Then the Lord will come. And all those who are holy will come with him. [ a ]
6 On that day, it will not be light in some places and dark in other places.
7 It will be a day like no other day. There will be no night. When it is evening, there will still be light. Only the Lord himself will know that day.
8 On that day, water will come out from Jerusalem. Half of this water will go towards the sea in the east. Half of this water will go towards the sea in the west. This will go on during summer and winter.
9 The Lord will be king over the whole earth. On that day, there will be only one Lord and he will have only one name.
10 All the land, from Geba to Rimmon, south of Jerusalem, will become flat. But Jerusalem will rise and it will be high in its place. The city will be from the Gate of Benjamin to the Corner Gate and to the High Building of Hananel. The place where the servants of the king make his wine will be in it too.
11 Jerusalem will be safe. People will live there. Nobody will destroy Jerusalem ever again.
12 The Lord will make the people sick that fought against Jerusalem. Their bodies will become bad as they stand on their feet. Their eyes will become bad and they will fall out. And their tongues will become bad in their mouths.
13 On that day, the Lord will make men so afraid that each man will attack the man next to him.
14 Judah also will go to Jerusalem and they will fight. They will take every good thing from all the countries. There will be a lot of expensive metals and many rich clothes.
15 The horses and all the other animals will be sick. And they will die as the soldiers died.
16 Some of the soldiers from the countries that attacked Jerusalem will not die. They will go to Jerusalem year after year to worship the King, the Lord Almighty. They will worship him at the Feast of Huts. [ b ]
17 All the people on the earth will have to go to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord Almighty. If any people on the earth do not go, they will have no rain.
18 If the people from Egypt do not go to Jerusalem to worship the Lord , they will have no rain. And the Lord will make them sick. If the people from other countries will not go to Jerusalem, the Lord will make them sick. They will die.
19 This will happen to the people from Egypt. This will happen to the people from all the countries that do not go up to Jerusalem at that time.
20 On that day, men will write the words, ‘This is for the Lord ’ on the bells of the horses. The pots that anyone uses to cook with in the house of the Lord will be special. They will be as special as the dishes in front of the altar.
21 Every pot in Jerusalem and Judah will be for the Lord Almighty. All the people who come to offer animals to the Lord will cook in those pots. On that day, nobody who sells things will come into the house of the Lord Almighty.
14 Look, the Lord has a special day of judgment coming, when the riches you have taken will be divided in your city. 2 I will bring all the nations together to fight against Jerusalem. They will capture the city and destroy the houses. The women will be raped, and half of the people will be taken away as prisoners. But the rest of the people will not be taken from the city. 3 Then the Lord will go to war with those nations. It will be a real battle. 4 At that time he will stand on the Mount of Olives, the hill east of Jerusalem. The Mount of Olives will split in half. Part of the mountain will move to the north, and part to the south. A deep valley will open up, from the east to the west. 5 You will try to run away as that mountain valley comes closer and closer to you. You will run away like the time you ran from the earthquake during the time of King Uzziah of Judah. But the Lord my God will come, and all his holy ones [ a ] will be with him.
6-7 That will be a very special day. There will not be any light, cold, or frost. Only the Lord knows how, but there will not be any day or night. Then, when darkness usually comes, there will still be light. 8 At that time water will flow continually from Jerusalem. [ b ] That stream will split and part of it will flow east, and part of it will flow west to the Mediterranean Sea. And it will flow all year long, in the summer as well as in the winter. 9 And the Lord will be the King of the whole world. At that time all people will worship him as the only Lord with only one name. 10 And the whole land from Geba in the north to Rimmon in the south past Jerusalem will become a flat plain. The city of Jerusalem will stay in the same place, but it will be built high above the land around it. It will reach from the Benjamin Gate to the First Gate (that is, the Corner Gate) and from the Tower of Hananel to the king’s winepresses. 11 People will move to Jerusalem because it will be a safe place to live. It will never again be destroyed.
12 But the Lord will punish the nations that fought against Jerusalem. He will send a terrible disease against them. Their skin will begin to rot while the people are still alive. Their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths. 13-15 That terrible disease will be in the enemy camp, and all their horses, mules, camels, and donkeys will catch that terrible disease.
At that time they will be afraid of the Lord . Each man will grab his neighbor’s hand, and they will fight each other. Even Judah will fight against Jerusalem. This will happen even while armies from all the nations are surrounding the city. There will be much gold, silver, and clothing. 16 Some of the people who came to fight Jerusalem will survive. And every year they will come to worship the king, the Lord All-Powerful. They will come to celebrate the Festival of Shelters. 17 And if people from any of the families on earth don’t go to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord All-Powerful, no rain will fall on their land. 18 If any of the families in Egypt don’t come to celebrate the Festival of Shelters, they will get that terrible disease that the Lord caused the enemy nations to get. 19 That will be the punishment for Egypt, and for any other nation that does not come to celebrate the Festival of Shelters.
20 At that time even the harnesses on the horses will have the label, holy to the lord . [ c ] And all the pots used in the Lord ’s Temple will be just as important as the bowls used at the altar. 21 In fact, every dish in Jerusalem and Judah will have the label, holy to the lord all-powerful . All the people offering sacrifices will come, take those dishes, and cook their special meals in them.
At that time there will not be any merchants buying and selling things [ d ] in the Temple of the Lord All-Powerful.
14 Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.
2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.
3 Then shall the Lord go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.
4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.
5 And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the Lord my God shall come, and all the saints with thee.
6 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark:
7 But it shall be one day which shall be known to the Lord , not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.
8 And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be.
9 And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord , and his name one.
10 All the land shall be turned as a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem: and it shall be lifted up, and inhabited in her place, from Benjamin's gate unto the place of the first gate, unto the corner gate, and from the tower of Hananeel unto the king's winepresses.
11 And men shall dwell in it, and there shall be no more utter destruction; but Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited.
12 And this shall be the plague wherewith the Lord will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.
13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great tumult from the Lord shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbour.
14 And Judah also shall fight at Jerusalem; and the wealth of all the heathen round about shall be gathered together, gold, and silver, and apparel, in great abundance.
15 And so shall be the plague of the horse, of the mule, of the camel, and of the ass, and of all the beasts that shall be in these tents, as this plague.
16 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.
17 And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain.
18 And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that have no rain; there shall be the plague, wherewith the Lord will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.
19 This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all nations that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.
20 In that day shall there be upon the bells of the horses, Holiness Unto The Lord ; and the pots in the Lord 's house shall be like the bowls before the altar.
21 Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holiness unto the Lord of hosts: and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no more the Canaanite in the house of the Lord of hosts.
14 Behold, a ( A ) day is coming for the Lord when ( B ) the spoils taken from you will be divided among you. 2 For I will ( C ) gather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city will be taken, the ( D ) houses plundered, the women raped, and half of the city exiled, but the rest of the people will not be eliminated from the city. 3 Then the Lord will go forth and ( E ) fight against those nations, as [ a ] when He fights on a day of battle. 4 On that day His feet will ( F ) stand on the Mount of Olives, which is in front of Jerusalem on the east; and the Mount of Olives will be ( G ) split [ b ] in its middle from east to west forming a very large valley. Half of the mountain will move toward the north, and the other half toward the south. 5 And you will flee by the valley of My mountains, for the valley of the mountains will reach to Azel; yes, you will flee just as you fled from the ( H ) earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. ( I ) Then the Lord , my God, will come, and all the holy ones with [ c ] Him!
6 On that day there will be ( J ) no light; the [ d ] luminaries will die out. 7 For it will be ( K ) a unique day which is ( L ) known to the Lord , neither day nor night, but it will come about that at the ( M ) time of evening there will be light.
8 And on that day ( N ) living waters will flow out of Jerusalem, half of them toward the eastern sea and the other half toward the western sea; it will be in summer as well as in winter.
9 And the Lord will be ( O ) King over all the earth; on that day the Lord will be the only ( P ) one, and His name the only one.
10 All the land will change into a plain from ( Q ) Geba to ( R ) Rimmon south of Jerusalem; but [ e ] Jerusalem will ( S ) rise and ( T ) remain on its site from ( U ) Benjamin’s Gate as far as the place of the First Gate to the ( V ) Corner Gate, and from the ( W ) Tower of Hananel to the king’s wine presses. 11 People will live in it, and there will ( X ) no longer be a curse, for Jerusalem will ( Y ) live in security.
12 Now this will be the plague with which the Lord will strike all the peoples who have gone to war against Jerusalem; their flesh will ( Z ) rot while they stand on their feet, and their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongue will rot in their mouth. 13 And it will come about on that day that a great panic from the Lord will [ f ] fall on them; and they will ( AA ) seize one another’s hand, and the hand of one will [ g ] be raised against the hand of another. 14 ( AB ) Judah also will fight at Jerusalem; and the ( AC ) wealth of all the surrounding nations will be gathered, gold, silver, and garments in great abundance. 15 And just like this ( AD ) plague, there will be a plague on the horse, the mule, the camel, the donkey, and all the cattle that will be in those camps.
16 Then it will come about that any who are left of all the nations that came against Jerusalem will ( AE ) go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of armies, and to celebrate the ( AF ) Feast of Booths. 17 And it will be that whichever of the families of the earth does not go up to Jerusalem to worship the ( AG ) King, the Lord of armies, there will be ( AH ) no rain on them. 18 And if the family of Egypt does not go up or enter, then no rain will fall on them; it will be the ( AI ) plague with which the Lord strikes the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths. 19 This will be the [ h ] punishment of Egypt, and the [ i ] punishment of all the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths.
20 On that day there will be inscribed on the bells of the horses, “ ( AJ ) Holy to the Lord .” And the ( AK ) cooking pots in the Lord ’ s house will be like the bowls before the altar. 21 Every cooking pot in Jerusalem and in Judah will be ( AL ) holy to the Lord of armies; and all who sacrifice will come and take of them and boil in them. And there will no longer be a [ j ] ( AM ) Canaanite in the house of the Lord of armies on that day.
14 A day of the Lord ( A ) is coming, Jerusalem, when your possessions ( B ) will be plundered and divided up within your very walls.
2 I will gather all the nations ( C ) to Jerusalem to fight against it; ( D ) the city will be captured, the houses ransacked, and the women raped. ( E ) Half of the city will go into exile, but the rest of the people will not be taken from the city. ( F ) 3 Then the Lord will go out and fight ( G ) against those nations, as he fights on a day of battle. ( H ) 4 On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, ( I ) east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split ( J ) in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south. 5 You will flee by my mountain valley, for it will extend to Azel. You will flee as you fled from the earthquake [ a ] ( K ) in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the Lord my God will come, ( L ) and all the holy ones with him. ( M )
6 On that day there will be neither sunlight ( N ) nor cold, frosty darkness. 7 It will be a unique ( O ) day—a day known only to the Lord —with no distinction between day and night. ( P ) When evening comes, there will be light. ( Q )
8 On that day living water ( R ) will flow ( S ) out from Jerusalem, half of it east ( T ) to the Dead Sea and half of it west to the Mediterranean Sea, in summer and in winter. ( U )
9 The Lord will be king ( V ) over the whole earth. ( W ) On that day there will be one Lord , and his name the only name. ( X )
10 The whole land, from Geba ( Y ) to Rimmon, ( Z ) south of Jerusalem, will become like the Arabah. But Jerusalem will be raised up ( AA ) high from the Benjamin Gate ( AB ) to the site of the First Gate, to the Corner Gate, ( AC ) and from the Tower of Hananel ( AD ) to the royal winepresses, and will remain in its place. ( AE ) 11 It will be inhabited; ( AF ) never again will it be destroyed. Jerusalem will be secure. ( AG )
12 This is the plague with which the Lord will strike ( AH ) all the nations that fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh will rot while they are still standing on their feet, their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths. ( AI ) 13 On that day people will be stricken by the Lord with great panic. ( AJ ) They will seize each other by the hand and attack one another. ( AK ) 14 Judah ( AL ) too will fight at Jerusalem. The wealth of all the surrounding nations will be collected ( AM ) —great quantities of gold and silver and clothing. 15 A similar plague ( AN ) will strike the horses and mules, the camels and donkeys, and all the animals in those camps.
16 Then the survivors ( AO ) from all the nations that have attacked Jerusalem will go up year after year to worship ( AP ) the King, ( AQ ) the Lord Almighty, and to celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles. ( AR ) 17 If any of the peoples of the earth do not go up to Jerusalem to worship ( AS ) the King, the Lord Almighty, they will have no rain. ( AT ) 18 If the Egyptian people do not go up and take part, they will have no rain. The Lord [ b ] will bring on them the plague ( AU ) he inflicts on the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles. ( AV ) 19 This will be the punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles. ( AW )
20 On that day holy to the Lord ( AX ) will be inscribed on the bells of the horses, and the cooking pots ( AY ) in the Lord ’s house will be like the sacred bowls ( AZ ) in front of the altar. 21 Every pot in Jerusalem and Judah will be holy ( BA ) to the Lord Almighty, and all who come to sacrifice will take some of the pots and cook in them. And on that day ( BB ) there will no longer be a Canaanite [ c ] ( BC ) in the house ( BD ) of the Lord Almighty. ( BE )
