The Lord is King! [ a ]

93 The Lord rules as King!
He wears royal power as his clothes.
His strength is like a belt round his body. [ b ]
So the world is safe and strong.
Nothing can shake it from its place.
2 You, Lord , have always ruled as King,
since before the beginning of time.
3 The floods of water have risen up, Lord .
They have risen with a loud noise.
Their waves beat against the land. [ c ]
4 But the Lord rules as King
high above everything!
He rules over the powerful waves of the sea,
with all their great noise!
5 Lord , your rules remain strong and true.
Your house will always be holy,
because you are holy.

Footnotes

  1. 93:1 Psalm 93 is the first of the Royal Psalms. Psalms 93 and 95—99 speak about God as the great King of all things.
  2. 93:1 The Lord wears his authority and his power as clothes. Everyone can see them. Nobody can take this power and authority away from God. He has strength to win against his enemies. That is like the belt that he wears.
  3. 93:3 The floods and waves may be a picture of God's enemies. Or they may describe what God did when he made the world. See Genesis 1:6-10 .

93 The Lord is King.
The Lord wears majesty and strength like clothes.
He is ready, so the whole world is safe.
It will not be shaken.
2 Your kingdom has continued forever.
You have lived forever!
3 Lord , the ocean roars.
The mighty ocean sounds like thunder
as the waves crash on the shore.
4 The crashing waves of the sea are loud and powerful,
but the Lord above is even more powerful.
5 Lord , your laws will continue forever. [ a ]
Your holy Temple will stand for a long time.

Footnotes

  1. Psalm 93:5 your laws … forever Or “your agreement can really be trusted.”

2 Thy throne is established of old: thou art from everlasting.

3 The floods have lifted up, O Lord , the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves.

4 The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea.

5 Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thine house, O Lord , for ever.
