BibleStudyIt Psalm 53
- Psalm Chapter 53
53 A fool thinks that there is no God.
People like that are bad.
They do evil things.
None of them does anything that is good.
2 God looks down from heaven
at the people on earth.
He wants to see if there is anyone who is really wise
and who wants to know God.
3 But they have all turned away.
They have all become evil.
Nobody does anything that is good,
not even one person.
4 People who do wicked things understand nothing.
They destroy my people
as easily as they eat bread.
They never pray to God.
5 But now they are very afraid
when there is nothing to be afraid of!
God has completely won against his enemies,
the people that attack you, his people.
God has turned against them,
so you are able to make them ashamed!
6 God, you are the one who saves your people, Israel!
Leave your home in Zion
and make your people strong again!
When God blesses his people,
Jacob's descendants will sing!
Yes, Israel's people will be very happy! [ b ]
53 Only fools think there is no God.
People like that are evil and do terrible things.
They never do what is right.
2 God looks down from heaven to see
if there is anyone who is wise,
anyone who looks to him for help.
3 But everyone has turned away from him.
Everyone has become evil.
No one does anything good.
No, not one person!
4 Those who are evil treat my people like bread to be eaten.
And they never ask for God’s help.
Don’t they understand what they are doing?
5 They will be filled with fear—
a fear like they have never felt before!
People of Israel, you will defeat those who attacked you,
because God has rejected them.
And he will scatter their bones.
6 I wish the one who lives on Mount Zion
would bring victory to Israel!
When God makes Israel successful again,
the people of Jacob will be very happy;
the people of Israel will be glad.
53 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.
2 God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God.
3 Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
4 Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread: they have not called upon God.
5 There were they in great fear, where no fear was: for God hath scattered the bones of him that encampeth against thee: thou hast put them to shame, because God hath despised them.
6 Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! When God bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.
53 ( A ) The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, and have committed abominable injustice;
( B ) There is no one who does good.
2 God has looked down from heaven upon the sons of mankind
To see if there is ( C ) anyone who [ c ] understands,
Who ( D ) seeks after God.
3 ( E ) Every one of them has turned aside; together they have become corrupt;
There is no one who does good, not even one.
4 Have the workers of injustice ( F ) no knowledge,
Who eat up My people like they ate bread,
And have not called upon God?
5 They were in great [ d ] fear there, ( G ) where no [ e ] fear had been;
For God ( H ) scattered the bones of [ f ] him who encamped against you;
You ( I ) put them to shame, because ( J ) God had rejected them.
6 Oh, that ( K ) the salvation of Israel would come from Zion!
When God restores the fortunes of His people,
Jacob shall rejoice, Israel shall be glad.
1 The fool ( B ) says in his heart,
“There is no God.” ( C )
They are corrupt, and their ways are vile;
there is no one who does good.
2 God looks down from heaven ( D )
on all mankind
to see if there are any who understand, ( E )
any who seek God. ( F )
3 Everyone has turned away, all have become corrupt;
there is no one who does good,
not even one. ( G )
4 Do all these evildoers know nothing?
They devour my people as though eating bread;
they never call on God.
5 But there they are, overwhelmed with dread,
where there was nothing to dread. ( H )
God scattered the bones ( I ) of those who attacked you; ( J )
you put them to shame, ( K ) for God despised them. ( L )
6 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!
When God restores his people,
let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!
