50 The mighty God, even the Lord , hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof.

² Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined.

³ Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him.

⁴ He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people.

⁵ Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.

⁶ And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah.

⁷ Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against thee: I am God, even thy God.

⁸ I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt offerings, to have been continually before me.

⁹ I will take no bullock out of thy house, nor he goats out of thy folds.

¹⁰ For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.

¹¹ I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine.

¹² If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.

¹³ Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?

¹⁴ Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High:

¹⁵ And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

¹⁶ But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?

¹⁷ Seeing thou hatest instruction, and casteth my words behind thee.

¹⁸ When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers.

¹⁹ Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit.

²⁰ Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thine own mother's son.

²¹ These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.

²² Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.

²³ Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.

One of Asaph’s songs.

50 The Lord God Most Powerful has spoken.
He calls to everyone on earth, from where the sun rises to where it sets.
² God appeared from Zion, the city of perfect beauty. ^{[ a ]}
³ Our God is coming and will not keep quiet.
Fire burns in front of him.
There is a great storm around him.
⁴ He tells the sky and the earth to be witnesses
as he judges his people.
⁵ He says, “My followers, gather around me.
Come, my worshipers, who made an agreement with me.”

⁶ God is the judge,
and the skies tell how fair he is. Selah

⁷ God says, “My people, listen to me!
People of Israel, I will show my evidence against you.
I am God, your God.
⁸ The problem I have with you is not your sacrifices
or the burnt offerings you bring to me everyday.
⁹ Why would I want more bulls from your barns
or goats from your pens?
¹⁰ I already own all the animals in the forest.
I own all the animals on a thousand hills.
¹¹ I know every bird in the mountains.
Everything that moves in the fields is mine.
¹² If I were hungry, I would not ask you for food.
I already own the world and everything in it.
¹³ I don’t eat the meat of bulls or drink the blood of goats.”

¹⁴ You made promises to God Most High, so give him what you promised.
Bring your sacrifices and thank offerings.
¹⁵ God says, “Call me when trouble comes.
I will help you, and you will honor me.”

¹⁶ But God says to the wicked,
“Stop quoting my laws!
Stop talking about my agreement!
¹⁷ You hate for me to tell you what to do.
You ignore what I say.
¹⁸ You see a thief and run to join him.
You jump into bed with those who commit adultery.
¹⁹ You say evil things and tell lies.
²⁰ You sit around talking about people,
finding fault with your own brothers.
²¹ When you did these things, I said nothing.
So you thought that I ^{[ b ]} was just like you.
But I will not be quiet any longer.
I will correct you and make clear what I have against you.
²² You people who have forgotten God,
understand what I am telling you,
or I will tear you apart,
and no one will be able to save you!
²³ Whoever gives a thank offering shows me honor.
And whoever decides to live right will see my power to save.”

50 The Mighty One, God, Yahweh, speaks,
and calls the earth from sunrise to sunset.
² Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty,
God shines out.
³ Our God comes, and does not keep silent.
A fire devours before him.
It is very stormy around him.
⁴ He calls to the heavens above,
to the earth, that he may judge his people:
⁵ “Gather my saints together to me,
those who have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.”
⁶ The heavens shall declare his righteousness,
for God himself is judge. Selah.
⁷ “Hear, my people, and I will speak.
Israel, I will testify against you.
I am God, your God.
⁸ I don’t rebuke you for your sacrifices.
Your burnt offerings are continually before me.
⁹ I have no need for a bull from your stall,
nor male goats from your pens.
¹⁰ For every animal of the forest is mine,
and the livestock on a thousand hills.
¹¹ I know all the birds of the mountains.
The wild animals of the field are mine.
¹² If I were hungry, I would not tell you,
for the world is mine, and all that is in it.
¹³ Will I eat the meat of bulls,
or drink the blood of goats?
¹⁴ Offer to God the sacrifice of thanksgiving.
Pay your vows to the Most High.
¹⁵ Call on me in the day of trouble.
I will deliver you, and you will honor me.”

¹⁶ But to the wicked God says,
“What right do you have to declare my statutes,
that you have taken my covenant on your lips,
¹⁷ since you hate instruction,
and throw my words behind you?
¹⁸ When you saw a thief, you consented with him,
and have participated with adulterers.

¹⁹ “You give your mouth to evil.
Your tongue frames deceit.
²⁰ You sit and speak against your brother.
You slander your own mother’s son.
²¹ You have done these things, and I kept silent.
You thought that I was just like you.
I will rebuke you, and accuse you in front of your eyes.

²² “Now consider this, you who forget God,
lest I tear you into pieces, and there be no one to deliver.
²³ Whoever offers the sacrifice of thanksgiving glorifies me,
and prepares his way so that I will show God’s salvation to him.”

50 A Psalm of Asaph. The God of gods -- Jehovah -- hath spoken, And He calleth to the earth From the rising of the sun unto its going in.

² From Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shone.

³ Our God cometh, and is not silent, Fire before Him doth devour, And round about him it hath been very tempestuous.

⁴ He doth call unto the heavens from above, And unto the earth, to judge His people.

⁵ Gather ye to Me My saints, Making covenant with Me over a sacrifice.

⁶ And the heavens declare His righteousness, For God Himself [is] judge. Selah.

⁷ Hear, O My people, and I speak, O Israel, and I testify against thee, God, thy God [am] I.

⁸ Not for thy sacrifices do I reprove thee, Yea, thy burnt-offerings [Are] before Me continually.

⁹ I take not from thy house a bullock, From thy folds he goats.

¹⁰ For Mine [is] every beast of the forest, The cattle on the hills of oxen.

¹¹ I have known every fowl of the mountains, And the wild beast of the field [is] with Me.

¹² If I am hungry I tell not to thee, For Mine [is] the world and its fulness.

¹³ Do I eat the flesh of bulls, And drink the blood of he-goats?

¹⁴ Sacrifice to God confession, And complete to the Most High thy vows.

¹⁵ And call Me in a day of adversity, I deliver thee, and thou honourest Me.

¹⁶ And to the wicked hath God said: What to thee -- to recount My statutes? That thou liftest up My covenant on thy mouth?

¹⁷ Yea, thou hast hated instruction, And dost cast My words behind thee.

¹⁸ If thou hast seen a thief, Then thou art pleased with him, And with adulterers [is] thy portion.

¹⁹ Thy mouth thou hast sent forth with evil, And thy tongue joineth deceit together,

²⁰ Thou sittest, against thy brother thou speakest, Against a son of thy mother givest slander.

²¹ These thou didst, and I kept silent, Thou hast thought that I am like thee, I reprove thee, and set in array before thine eyes.

²² Understand this, I pray you, Ye who are forgetting God, Lest I tear, and there is no deliverer.

²³ He who is sacrificing praise honoureth Me, As to him who maketh a way, I cause him to look on the salvation of God!

50 Unto the end, a psalm of David,

² When Nathan the prophet came to him after he had sinned with Bethsabee.

³ Have mercy on me, O God, according to thy great mercy. And according to the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my iniquity.

⁴ Wash me yet more from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

⁵ For I know my iniquity, and my sin is always before me.

⁶ To thee only have I sinned, and have done evil before thee: that thou mayst be justified in thy words and mayst overcome when thou art judged.

⁷ For behold I was conceived in iniquities; and in sins did my mother conceive me.

⁸ For behold thou hast loved truth: the uncertain and hidden things of thy wisdom thou hast made manifest to me.

⁹ Thou shalt sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be cleansed: thou shalt wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow.

¹⁰ To my hearing thou shalt give joy and gladness: and the bones that have been humbled shall rejoice.

¹¹ Turn away thy face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.

¹² Create a clean heart in me, O God: and renew a right spirit within my bowels.

¹³ Cast me not away from thy face; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

¹⁴ Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation, and strengthen me with a perfect spirit.

¹⁵ I will teach the unjust thy ways: and the wicked shall be converted to thee.

¹⁶ Deliver me from blood, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall extol thy justice.

¹⁷ O Lord, thou wilt open my lips: and my mouth shall declare thy praise.

¹⁸ For if thou hadst desired sacrifice, I would indeed have given it: with burnt offerings thou wilt not be delighted.

¹⁹ A sacrifice to God is an afflicted spirit: a contrite and humbled heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

²⁰ Deal favourably, O Lord, in thy good will with Sion; that the walls of Jerusalem may be built up.

²¹ Then shalt thou accept the sacrifice of justice, oblations and whole burnt offerings: then shall they lay calves upon thy altar.
