BibleStudyIt Psalm 36
- Psalm Chapter 36
36 A wicked person turns against God completely.
He does not respect God.
2 He is too proud to think about his sin,
so he does not hate it.
3 He speaks wicked things to deceive people.
He does nothing that is wise or good.
4 While he lies on his bed at night,
he thinks about bad things that he can do.
He lives only to do things that are not good.
He does not turn away from evil things.
5 Lord your faithful love reaches as high as the sky.
People can trust you beyond the clouds.
6 Your justice is like the strongest mountains.
You always do what is right,
more than the seas are deep. [ a ]
You take care of people and animals
and you keep them safe.
7 God, your faithful love has great value!
You keep all humans safe,
like birds protect their babies under their wings.
8 You have plenty of food in your house,
to give them all that they need.
You give them water from your river,
that makes them happy when they drink it.
9 Yes, you are the one who gives us light and life.
10 Continue to love those who serve you as your people.
Let good, honest people receive your justice.
11 Do not let proud people hurt me.
Do not let evil people chase me away from home.
12 Now I see that those wicked people have fallen down!
They are lying there on the ground,
and they cannot get up again!
36 Deep in the hearts of the wicked a voice tells them to do wrong.
They have no respect for God.
2 They lie to themselves.
They don’t see their own faults,
so they are not sorry for what they do.
3 Their words are wicked lies.
They have stopped doing anything wise or good.
4 They make wicked plans in bed at night.
They choose a way of life that does no good.
And they never say no to anything evil.
5 Lord , your faithful love reaches to the sky.
Your faithfulness is as high as the clouds.
6 Your goodness is higher than the highest mountains.
Your fairness is deeper than the deepest ocean.
Lord , you protect people and animals.
7 Nothing is more precious than your loving kindness.
All people can find protection close to you.
8 They get strength from all the good things in your house.
You let them drink from your wonderful river.
9 The fountain of life flows from you.
Your light lets us see light.
10 Continue to love those who really know you,
and do good to those who are true to you. [ a ]
11 Don’t let proud people trap me.
Don’t let the wicked force me to run away.
12 Put this on their grave markers:
“Here fell the wicked.
They were crushed.
They will never stand up again.”
36 The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.
2 For he flattereth himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity be found to be hateful.
3 The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit: he hath left off to be wise, and to do good.
4 He deviseth mischief upon his bed; he setteth himself in a way that is not good; he abhorreth not evil.
5 Thy mercy, O Lord , is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds.
6 Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O Lord , thou preservest man and beast.
7 How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.
8 They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.
9 For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.
10 O continue thy lovingkindness unto them that know thee; and thy righteousness to the upright in heart.
11 Let not the foot of pride come against me, and let not the hand of the wicked remove me.
12 There are the workers of iniquity fallen: they are cast down, and shall not be able to rise.
36 [ a ] Wrongdoing speaks to the ungodly within [ b ] his heart;
There is ( A ) no fear of God before his eyes.
2 For it ( B ) flatters him in his own eyes
Concerning the discovery of his wrongful deed and the hatred of it .
3 The ( C ) words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit;
He has ( D ) ceased to [ c ] be wise and to do good.
4 He ( E ) plans wickedness on his bed;
He sets himself on a ( F ) path that is not good;
He ( G ) does not reject evil.
5 Your ( H ) mercy, Lord , [ d ] extends to the heavens,
Your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
6 Your ( I ) righteousness is like the [ e ] mountains of God;
Your ( J ) judgments are like the great deep.
Lord , You [ f ] ( K ) protect mankind and animals.
7 How ( L ) precious is Your mercy, God!
And the sons of mankind ( M ) take refuge in the shadow of Your wings.
8 They ( N ) drink their fill of the [ g ] abundance of Your house;
And You allow them to drink from the ( O ) river of Your delights.
9 For the ( P ) fountain of life is with You;
In Your light we see light.
10 Prolong Your mercy to ( Q ) those who know You,
And Your ( R ) righteousness to the upright of heart.
11 May the foot of pride not come upon me,
And may the hand of the wicked not drive me away.
12 Those who do injustice have fallen there;
They have been thrust down and ( S ) cannot rise.
1 I have a message from God in my heart
concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: [ b ] ( A )
There is no fear ( B ) of God
before their eyes. ( C )
2 In their own eyes they flatter themselves
too much to detect or hate their sin. ( D )
3 The words of their mouths ( E ) are wicked and deceitful; ( F )
they fail to act wisely ( G ) or do good. ( H )
4 Even on their beds they plot evil; ( I )
they commit themselves to a sinful course ( J )
and do not reject what is wrong. ( K )
5 Your love, Lord , reaches to the heavens,
your faithfulness ( L ) to the skies. ( M )
6 Your righteousness ( N ) is like the highest mountains, ( O )
your justice like the great deep. ( P )
You, Lord , preserve both people and animals. ( Q )
7 How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! ( R )
People take refuge in the shadow of your wings. ( S )
8 They feast on the abundance of your house; ( T )
you give them drink from your river ( U ) of delights. ( V )
9 For with you is the fountain of life; ( W )
in your light ( X ) we see light.
