- Psalm Chapter 30
30 Lord , I will praise you,
because you have saved me from death.
You have not let my enemies laugh at me.
2 Lord , my God, I called to you for help,
and you have made me well again.
3 Lord , you pulled me up
out of the deep hole of death.
You saved me
from among those who are going into the grave.
4 Sing to the Lord ,
you people who trust him.
Praise his holy name.
5 His anger continues only for a moment,
but he is kind to us for our whole life.
You may be sad all through the night,
but in the morning, you will be happy again. [ b ]
6 When I was feeling safe and strong,
I thought, ‘Nothing can ever destroy me.’
7 But Lord , it was you who made my kingdom strong,
because you are so kind.
But then you turned away from me,
and I became very afraid. [ c ]
8 I called to you for help, Lord .
I asked you to be kind to me, my Lord.
9 If I go down into the deep hole of death,
that will not help you!
My dead body cannot praise you there!
It cannot tell people to trust you!
10 Lord , please listen to me!
Please be kind to me!
Lord , please be my helper!
11 Now you have caused me to stop crying,
so that I dance instead!
I do not need to wear sackcloth,
because I am no longer sad.
Instead, you have made me very happy. [ d ]
12 So I am truly happy and I will sing to praise you.
I cannot stay quiet!
Lord , my God,
I will continue to thank you for ever.
30 Lord , you lifted me out of my troubles.
You did not give my enemies a reason to laugh,
so I will praise you.
2 Lord my God, I prayed to you,
and you healed me.
3 Lord , you lifted me out of the grave.
I was falling into the place of death, but you saved my life.
4 Praise the Lord , you who are loyal to him!
Praise his holy name [ b ] !
5 His anger lasts for a little while,
but then his kindness brings life.
The night may be filled with tears,
but in the morning we can sing for joy!
6 When I was safe and secure,
I thought nothing could hurt me.
7 Yes, Lord , while you were kind to me,
I felt that nothing could defeat me. [ c ]
But when you turned away from me,
I was filled with fear.
8 So, Lord , I turned and prayed to you.
I asked you, Lord, to show me mercy.
9 I said, “What good is it if I die
and go down to the grave?
The dead just lie in the dirt.
They cannot praise you.
They cannot tell anyone how faithful you are.
10 Lord , hear my prayer, and be kind to me.
Lord , help me!”
11 You have changed my sorrow into dancing.
You have taken away my sackcloth
and clothed me with joy.
12 You wanted me to praise you and not be silent.
Lord my God, I will praise you forever!
30 I will extol thee, O Lord ; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.
2 O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.
3 O Lord , thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.
4 Sing unto the Lord , O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.
5 For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
6 And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved.
7 Lord , by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled.
8 I cried to thee, O Lord ; and unto the Lord I made supplication.
9 What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth?
10 Hear, O Lord , and have mercy upon me: Lord , be thou my helper.
11 Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;
12 To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.
30 I will ( A ) exalt You, Lord , for You have ( B ) lifted me up,
And have not let my ( C ) enemies rejoice over me.
2 Lord my God,
I ( D ) cried to You for help, and You ( E ) healed me.
3 Lord , You have ( F ) brought up my soul from [ a ] Sheol;
You have kept me alive, [ b ] that I would not ( G ) go down to the pit.
4 ( H ) Sing praise to the Lord , you ( I ) His godly ones,
And ( J ) praise the mention of His holiness.
5 For ( K ) His anger is but for a moment,
His ( L ) favor is for a lifetime;
Weeping may ( M ) last for the night,
But a shout of joy comes in the morning.
6 Now as for me, I said in my prosperity,
“I will ( N ) never be moved.”
7 Lord , by Your favor You have made my mountain to stand strong;
You ( O ) hid Your face, I was dismayed.
8 To You, Lord , I called,
And to the Lord I pleaded for compassion:
9 “What gain is there in my blood, if I ( P ) go down to the pit?
Will the ( Q ) dust praise You? Will it declare Your faithfulness?
10 “ ( R ) Hear, Lord , and be gracious to me;
Lord , be my ( S ) helper.”
11 You have turned ( T ) my mourning into dancing for me;
You have ( U ) untied my sackcloth and encircled me with ( V ) joy,
12 That my [ c ] ( W ) soul may sing praise to You and not be silent.
Lord my God, I will ( X ) give thanks to You forever.
1 I will exalt ( A ) you, Lord ,
for you lifted me out of the depths ( B )
and did not let my enemies gloat over me. ( C )
2 Lord my God, I called to you for help, ( D )
and you healed me. ( E )
3 You, Lord , brought me up from the realm of the dead; ( F )
you spared me from going down to the pit. ( G )
4 Sing ( H ) the praises of the Lord , you his faithful people; ( I )
praise his holy name. ( J )
5 For his anger ( K ) lasts only a moment, ( L )
but his favor lasts a lifetime; ( M )
weeping ( N ) may stay for the night,
but rejoicing comes in the morning. ( O )
6 When I felt secure, I said,
“I will never be shaken.” ( P )
7 Lord , when you favored me,
you made my royal mountain [ c ] stand firm;
but when you hid your face, ( Q )
I was dismayed.
