- Psalm Chapter 120
120 I cried to the Lord to help me in my trouble.
He answered me.
2 I prayed, ‘ Lord , keep me safe from people who tell lies.
Save me from people who want to deceive me.’
3 How will God punish you,
you people who deceive others?
He will punish you properly!
4 Yes, the sharp arrows of a soldier will hurt you.
They will give you pain, like wood that burns with fire.
5 I am so sad! I live in Meshek as a stranger.
I live among the people of Kedar.
6 I have lived too long with people that hate peace.
7 I want to live here in peace.
But when I say this, they only want war!
120 I was in trouble.
I called to the Lord for help,
and he answered me!
2 I said, “ Lord , save me from liars,
from those who say things that are not true.”
3 Liars, do you know what the Lord has for you?
Do you know what you will get?
4 You will get a soldier’s sharp arrow
and hot coals to punish you.
5 How I hate living here among these people!
It’s like living in Meshech or in the tents of Kedar. [ a ]
6 I have lived too long
with those who hate peace.
7 I ask for peace,
but they want war.
120 In my distress I cried unto the Lord , and he heard me.
2 Deliver my soul, O Lord , from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.
3 What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue?
4 Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.
5 Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar!
6 My soul hath long dwelt with him that hateth peace.
7 I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war.
120 ( A ) I cried to the Lord in my trouble,
And He answered me.
2 Rescue my soul, Lord , from ( B ) lying lips,
From a ( C ) deceitful tongue.
3 What will He give to you, and what more will He do to you,
You ( D ) deceitful tongue?
4 ( E ) Sharp arrows of the warrior,
With the burning ( F ) coals of the broom tree!
5 Woe to me, for I reside in ( G ) Meshech,
For I have settled among the ( H ) tents of ( I ) Kedar!
6 Too long has my soul had its dwelling
With those who ( J ) hate peace.
7 I ( K ) am for peace, but when I speak,
They are ( L ) for war.
1 I call on the Lord ( A ) in my distress, ( B )
and he answers me.

from lying lips ( C )

and what more besides,
you deceitful tongue?
4 He will punish you with a warrior’s sharp arrows, ( E )
with burning coals of the broom bush.
5 Woe to me that I dwell in Meshek,
that I live among the tents of Kedar! ( F )

among those who hate peace.

but when I speak, they are for war.
