106 Hallelujah! Praise the Lord !
Thank the Lord , because he is good.
His faithful love will always be with us.
2 The great things that the Lord has done
are too many to tell!
Nobody can praise him enough.
3 God has blessed the people who obey his commands.
They always do what is right.
4 Lord , when you help your people,
please remember me!
Do not forget to help me,
when you come to rescue them.
5 I want to enjoy the good things
that you give to the people that you have chosen.
I want to be happy together with them.
I want to join with the people who belong to you,
and praise you as you deserve.
6 We have done bad things,
as our ancestors also did.
We have done things that are wicked and evil.
7 When our ancestors were in Egypt,
they did not understand your miracles.
They forgot the many ways that you showed them your faithful love.
When they arrived at the Red Sea,
they turned against you, Lord .
8 But the Lord rescued them,
to show that his name is great.
He showed that he was very powerful.
9 He shouted at the Red Sea,
and it became dry.
He led his people through the middle of the deep water,
as if they walked in a desert!
10 He rescued them from the people who hated them.
He saved them from their enemy's power.
11 The water of the sea drowned their enemies,
so that none of them remained alive. [ b ]
12 Then God's people believed his promises.
They sang songs to praise him. [ c ]
13 But they soon forgot
what the Lord had done to help them.
They did not wait for him to tell them what to do.
14 In the wilderness they wanted better food.
They tested God to see what he would do.
15 He gave them the food that they asked for,
but he also sent a bad disease on them. [ d ]
16 The people became jealous of Moses,
and Aaron, the Lord 's special priest.
17 So God made the earth break open,
so that Dathan fell into it.
It also destroyed Abiram and his people.
18 Fire burned all their group,
and it killed those wicked people. [ e ]
19 At Horeb, the Israelites used gold to make a cow,
and they worshipped it.
20 They turned away from their great God.
Instead, they worshipped the statue of a cow,
an animal that eats grass! [ f ]
21 They forgot the God who had saved them,
when he did great miracles in Egypt.
22 He had done powerful things in the land of Ham's descendants,
and at the shore of the Red Sea.
His people forgot about all that!
23 So God said that he would destroy them.
But God's servant, Moses, spoke on their behalf.
He asked God not to be angry with his people,
and God agreed.
24 Later, they did not believe God's promise
to take them safely into the beautiful land of Canaan.
25 They spoke against the Lord in their tents,
and they did not obey him.
26 So he made a strong promise
that he would cause them to die in the desert.
27 He promised that he would chase their descendants away,
so that they died in foreign countries. [ g ]
28 After that, they started to worship the false god, Baal of Peor.
They ate the food from sacrifices
that people gave to dead idols.
29 The Lord became angry
because of what his people did.
He sent a bad disease among them.
30 Then Phinehas punished the guilty people,
so that the disease stopped killing people. [ h ]
31 So we remember that Phinehas was a righteous man,
and that will be true for ever.
32 At Meribah springs, the Israelites made God angry.
What they did there caused Moses to have trouble.
33 Moses was so upset that he spoke in a careless way. [ i ]
34 The Lord commanded his people
to destroy the nations of Canaan,
But they did not obey the Lord 's command.
35 Instead, they mixed with those nations
and they learned their way of life.
36 They worshipped their idols
which caught them in a trap.
37 They even killed their sons and their daughters
as sacrifices for those idols of demons!
38 Their sons and their daughters did not deserve to die,
but they killed them as sacrifices for the idols of Canaan.
Those murders made the land unclean.
39 The things that the Lord 's people did
made them unclean.
They were not faithful to the Lord ,
like a wife who is not faithful to her husband.
40 So the Lord became angry with his people.
They belonged to him
but he turned away from them.
41 He let other nations have power over them.
Their enemies ruled over them.
42 Their enemies had power to hurt them,
and they were cruel to them.
43 Many times, the Lord rescued his people,
but they had decided not to obey him.
Their sins made them weaker and weaker.
44 But the Lord still saw when they were in trouble.
He answered them when they called to him for help.
45 He remembered the covenant that he had made with them.
Because of his faithful love for his people,
he stopped punishing them.
46 He caused all their enemies to be kind to them.
47 Lord , our God, please save us!
Bring us safely home from among the other nations. [ j ]
Then we will thank you!
We will shout aloud to praise your holy name.
48 Praise the Lord , Israel's God,
as he deserves!
Praise him now and for ever!
Let everybody say, ‘Amen! We agree!’

106 Praise the Lord !
Give thanks to the Lord because he is good!
His faithful love will last forever!
2 No one can describe how great the Lord really is.
No one can praise him enough.
3 Those who obey his commands are happy.
They do good things all the time.
4 Lord , remember me when you show kindness to your people.
Remember to save me too!
5 Let me share in the good things
that you do for your chosen people.
Let me rejoice with your nation.
Let me join with your people in praise.
6 We sinned just as our ancestors did.
We were wrong; we did bad things!
7 Lord, our ancestors learned nothing
from the miracles you did in Egypt.
They forgot your kindness at the Red Sea
and rebelled against you.
8 But the Lord saved our ancestors for the honor of his name.
He saved them to show his great power.
9 He gave the command, and the Red Sea became dry.
He led them through the deep sea on land as dry as the desert.
10 He saved our ancestors
and rescued them from their enemies.
11 He covered their enemies with the sea.
Not one of them escaped!
12 Then our ancestors believed what he had said.
They sang praises to him.
13 But they quickly forgot about what he did.
They did not listen to his advice.
14 They became hungry in the desert,
and they tested him in the wilderness.
15 He gave them what they asked for,
but he also gave them a terrible disease.
16 The people became jealous of Moses.
They became jealous of Aaron, the Lord ’s holy priest.
17 The ground opened up and swallowed Dathan.
Then the ground closed up and covered Abiram’s group.
18 Then a fire burned that mob of people.
It burned those wicked people.
19 The people made a golden calf at Mount Horeb.
They worshiped a statue!
20 They traded their glorious God
for a statue of a grass-eating bull!
21 They forgot all about God, the one who saved them,
the one who did the miracles in Egypt.
22 He did amazing things there in Ham’s country [ a ] !
He did awesome things at the Red Sea!
23 God wanted to destroy those people,
but Moses, the leader he chose, stood in the way.
God was very angry, but Moses begged him to stop,
so God did not destroy the people. [ b ]
24 But then they refused to go into the wonderful land of Canaan.
They did not believe that God would help them defeat the people there.
25 Our ancestors complained in their tents
and refused to obey the Lord .
26 So he swore that they would die
in the desert.
27 He promised to scatter them among the nations
and to let other people defeat their descendants.
28 At Baal Peor they joined in worshiping Baal
and ate sacrifices to honor the dead. [ c ]
29 The Lord became angry with his people,
so he made them sick.
30 But Phinehas prayed [ d ] to God,
and God stopped the sickness.
31 He considered what Phinehas did a good work,
and it will be remembered forever and ever.
32 At Meribah the people made the Lord angry
and created trouble for Moses.
33 They upset Moses,
and he spoke without stopping to think.
34 The Lord told the people to destroy the other nations living in Canaan.
But the Israelites did not obey him.
35 They mixed with the other people
and did what those people were doing.
36 They began worshiping the false gods those people worshiped.
And their idols became a trap.
37 They even offered their own children
as sacrifices to demons.
38 They killed their innocent sons and daughters
and offered them to the false gods of Canaan.
So the land was polluted with the sin of murder.
39 They were unfaithful to him,
and they became dirty with the sins of other nations.
40 So the Lord became angry with his people.
He rejected those who belonged to him.
41 He gave his people to other nations
and let their enemies rule over them.
42 Their enemies controlled them
and made life hard for them.
43 He saved his people many times,
but they turned against him and did what they wanted to do.
His people did many bad things.
44 But whenever they were in trouble,
he listened to their prayers.
45 He always remembered his agreement,
and because of his faithful love, he comforted them.
46 Other nations took them as prisoners,
but the Lord caused them to be kind to his people.
47 Lord our God, save us!
Bring us back together from those nations.
Then we will give thanks to your holy name
and joyfully praise you.
48 Praise the Lord , the God of Israel!
He always was and will always be worthy of praise.
Let all the people say, “Amen!”

106 Praise ye the Lord . O give thanks unto the Lord ; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
2 Who can utter the mighty acts of the Lord ? who can shew forth all his praise?
3 Blessed are they that keep judgment, and he that doeth righteousness at all times.
4 Remember me, O Lord , with the favour that thou bearest unto thy people: O visit me with thy salvation;
5 That I may see the good of thy chosen, that I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation, that I may glory with thine inheritance.
6 We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.
7 Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies; but provoked him at the sea, even at the Red sea.
8 Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known.
9 He rebuked the Red sea also, and it was dried up: so he led them through the depths, as through the wilderness.
10 And he saved them from the hand of him that hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.
11 And the waters covered their enemies: there was not one of them left.
12 Then believed they his words; they sang his praise.
13 They soon forgat his works; they waited not for his counsel:
14 But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert.
15 And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul.
16 They envied Moses also in the camp, and Aaron the saint of the Lord .
17 The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan and covered the company of Abiram.
18 And a fire was kindled in their company; the flame burned up the wicked.
19 They made a calf in Horeb, and worshipped the molten image.
20 Thus they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eateth grass.
21 They forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt;
22 Wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things by the Red sea.
23 Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.
24 Yea, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word:
25 But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice of the Lord .
26 Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness:
27 To overthrow their seed also among the nations, and to scatter them in the lands.
28 They joined themselves also unto Baalpeor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead.
29 Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions: and the plague brake in upon them.
30 Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment: and so the plague was stayed.
31 And that was counted unto him for righteousness unto all generations for evermore.
32 They angered him also at the waters of strife, so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes:
33 Because they provoked his spirit, so that he spake unadvisedly with his lips.
34 They did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the Lord commanded them:
35 But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works.
36 And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them.
37 Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils,
38 And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood.
39 Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions.
40 Therefore was the wrath of the Lord kindled against his people, insomuch that he abhorred his own inheritance.
41 And he gave them into the hand of the heathen; and they that hated them ruled over them.
42 Their enemies also oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand.
43 Many times did he deliver them; but they provoked him with their counsel, and were brought low for their iniquity.
44 Nevertheless he regarded their affliction, when he heard their cry:
45 And he remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his mercies.
46 He made them also to be pitied of all those that carried them captives.
47 Save us, O Lord our God, and gather us from among the heathen, to give thanks unto thy holy name, and to triumph in thy praise.
48 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting: and let all the people say, Amen. Praise ye the Lord .

Oh ( A ) give thanks to the Lord , for He ( B ) is good;
For ( C ) His mercy is everlasting.
2 Who can speak of the ( D ) mighty deeds of the Lord ,
Or can proclaim all His praise?
3 How blessed are those who maintain [ c ] justice,
[ d ] Who ( E ) practice righteousness at all times!
4 Remember me, Lord , in Your ( F ) favor [ e ] toward Your people.
Visit me with Your salvation,
5 So that I may see the ( G ) prosperity of Your chosen ones,
That I may ( H ) rejoice in the joy of Your nation,
That I may ( I ) boast with Your [ f ] inheritance.
6 ( J ) We have sinned [ g ] ( K ) like our fathers,
We have gone astray, we have behaved wickedly.
7 Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Your [ h ] wonders;
They ( L ) did not remember [ i ] Your abundant kindnesses,
But ( M ) rebelled by the sea, at the [ j ] Red Sea.
8 Nevertheless He saved them ( N ) for the sake of His name,
So that He might ( O ) make His power known.
9 So He ( P ) rebuked the [ k ] Red Sea and it ( Q ) dried up,
And He ( R ) led them through the mighty waters, as through the wilderness.
10 So He ( S ) saved them from the [ l ] hand of one who hated them ,
And ( T ) redeemed them from the [ m ] hand of the enemy.
11 ( U ) The waters covered their adversaries;
Not one of them was left.
12 Then they ( V ) believed His words;
They ( W ) sang His praise.
13 They quickly ( X ) forgot His works;
They ( Y ) did not wait for His plan,
14 But ( Z ) became lustfully greedy in the wilderness,
And ( AA ) put God to the test in the desert.
15 So He ( AB ) gave them their request,
But ( AC ) sent a [ n ] wasting disease among them.
16 When they became ( AD ) envious of Moses in the camp,
And of Aaron, the holy one of the Lord ,
17 The ( AE ) earth opened and swallowed up Dathan,
And engulfed the [ o ] company of Abiram.
18 And a ( AF ) fire blazed up in their [ p ] company;
The flame consumed the wicked.
19 They ( AG ) made a calf in Horeb,
And worshiped a cast metal image.
20 So they ( AH ) exchanged their glory
For the image of an ox that eats grass.
21 They ( AI ) forgot God their Savior,
Who had done ( AJ ) great things in Egypt,
22 [ q ] ( AK ) Wonders in the land of Ham,
And awesome things by the [ r ] Red Sea.
23 Therefore ( AL ) He said that He would destroy them,
If ( AM ) Moses, His chosen one, had not stood in the gap before Him,
To turn away His wrath from destroying them .
24 Then they ( AN ) rejected the ( AO ) pleasant land;
They ( AP ) did not believe His word,
25 But ( AQ ) grumbled in their tents;
They did not listen to the voice of the Lord .
26 Therefore He [ s ] ( AR ) swore to them
That He would have them fall in the wilderness,
27 And that He would ( AS ) bring down their [ t ] descendants among the nations,
And ( AT ) scatter them in the lands.
28 They also ( AU ) followed [ u ] Baal-peor,
And ate ( AV ) sacrifices offered to the dead.
29 So they ( AW ) provoked Him to anger with their deeds,
And a plague broke out among them.
30 Then Phinehas ( AX ) stood up and [ v ] intervened,
And so the ( AY ) plague was brought to a halt.
31 And it was ( AZ ) credited to him as righteousness,
To all generations forever.
32 They also ( BA ) provoked Him to wrath at the waters of [ w ] Meribah,
So that it ( BB ) went badly for Moses on their account.
33 Because they ( BC ) were rebellious against [ x ] His Spirit,
He spoke rashly with his lips.
34 They ( BD ) did not destroy the peoples,
As ( BE ) the Lord had commanded them,
35 But ( BF ) they got involved with the nations
And learned their [ y ] practices,
36 And ( BG ) served their idols,
( BH ) Which became a snare to them.
37 They even ( BI ) sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the ( BJ ) demons,
38 And shed ( BK ) innocent blood,
The blood of their ( BL ) sons and their daughters
Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan;
And the land was ( BM ) defiled with the blood.
39 So they became ( BN ) unclean in their [ z ] practices,
And [ aa ] ( BO ) were unfaithful in their deeds.
40 Therefore the ( BP ) anger of the Lord was kindled against His people,
And He ( BQ ) loathed His [ ab ] ( BR ) inheritance.
41 So ( BS ) He handed them over to the [ ac ] nations,
And those who hated them ruled over them.
42 Their enemies also ( BT ) oppressed them,
And they were subdued under their [ ad ] power.
43 Many times He would ( BU ) rescue them;
They, however, were rebellious in their ( BV ) plan,
And they ( BW ) sank down into their guilt.
44 Nevertheless He looked at their distress
When He ( BX ) heard their cry;
45 And He ( BY ) remembered His covenant for their sake,
And [ ae ] ( BZ ) relented ( CA ) according to the greatness of His mercy.
46 He also made them ( CB ) objects of compassion
In the presence of all their captors.
47 ( CC ) Save us, Lord our God,
And ( CD ) gather us from the nations,
To give thanks to Your holy name
And ( CE ) glory in Your praise.
48 ( CF ) Blessed be the Lord , the God of Israel,
From everlasting to everlasting.
And all the people shall say, “Amen.”

2 Who can proclaim the mighty acts ( E ) of the Lord
or fully declare his praise?
3 Blessed are those who act justly, ( F )
who always do what is right. ( G )
4 Remember me, ( H ) Lord , when you show favor ( I ) to your people,
come to my aid ( J ) when you save them,
5 that I may enjoy the prosperity ( K ) of your chosen ones, ( L )
that I may share in the joy ( M ) of your nation
and join your inheritance ( N ) in giving praise.

in the wilderness ( AI ) they put God to the test. ( AJ )
15 So he gave them ( AK ) what they asked for,
but sent a wasting disease ( AL ) among them.
16 In the camp they grew envious ( AM ) of Moses
and of Aaron, who was consecrated to the Lord .
17 The earth opened ( AN ) up and swallowed Dathan; ( AO )
it buried the company of Abiram. ( AP )
18 Fire blazed ( AQ ) among their followers;
a flame consumed the wicked.
19 At Horeb they made a calf ( AR )
and worshiped an idol cast from metal.
20 They exchanged their glorious God ( AS )
for an image of a bull, which eats grass.
21 They forgot the God ( AT ) who saved them,
who had done great things ( AU ) in Egypt,
22 miracles in the land of Ham ( AV )
and awesome deeds ( AW ) by the Red Sea.
23 So he said he would destroy ( AX ) them—
had not Moses, his chosen one,
stood in the breach ( AY ) before him
to keep his wrath from destroying them.
24 Then they despised ( AZ ) the pleasant land; ( BA )
they did not believe ( BB ) his promise.
25 They grumbled ( BC ) in their tents
and did not obey the Lord .
26 So he swore ( BD ) to them with uplifted hand
that he would make them fall in the wilderness, ( BE )
27 make their descendants fall among the nations
and scatter ( BF ) them throughout the lands.
28 They yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor ( BG )
and ate sacrifices offered to lifeless gods;
29 they aroused the Lord ’s anger ( BH ) by their wicked deeds, ( BI )
and a plague ( BJ ) broke out among them.
30 But Phinehas ( BK ) stood up and intervened,
and the plague was checked. ( BL )
31 This was credited to him ( BM ) as righteousness
for endless generations ( BN ) to come.
32 By the waters of Meribah ( BO ) they angered the Lord ,
and trouble came to Moses because of them;
33 for they rebelled ( BP ) against the Spirit ( BQ ) of God,
and rash words came from Moses’ lips. [ c ] ( BR )
34 They did not destroy ( BS ) the peoples
as the Lord had commanded ( BT ) them,
35 but they mingled ( BU ) with the nations
and adopted their customs.
36 They worshiped their idols, ( BV )
which became a snare ( BW ) to them.
37 They sacrificed their sons ( BX )
and their daughters to false gods. ( BY )
38 They shed innocent blood,
the blood of their sons ( BZ ) and daughters,
whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan,
and the land was desecrated by their blood.
39 They defiled themselves ( CA ) by what they did;
by their deeds they prostituted ( CB ) themselves.
40 Therefore the Lord was angry ( CC ) with his people
and abhorred his inheritance. ( CD )
41 He gave them into the hands ( CE ) of the nations,
and their foes ruled over them.
42 Their enemies oppressed ( CF ) them
and subjected them to their power.
43 Many times he delivered them, ( CG )
but they were bent on rebellion ( CH )
and they wasted away in their sin.
44 Yet he took note of their distress
when he heard their cry; ( CI )
45 for their sake he remembered his covenant ( CJ )
and out of his great love ( CK ) he relented. ( CL )
46 He caused all who held them captive
to show them mercy. ( CM )
47 Save us, ( CN ) Lord our God,
and gather us ( CO ) from the nations,
that we may give thanks ( CP ) to your holy name ( CQ )
and glory in your praise.
48 Praise be to the Lord , the God of Israel,
from everlasting to everlasting.
