- Malachi Chapter 4
4 ‘The great day when I come to judge people will certainly happen. Punishment will come like the great fire of a hot oven. It will destroy all the proud people who do evil things. It will completely destroy them, like a fire that destroys dry grass. Nothing will remain.’
That is what the Lord Almighty says.
2 ‘But it will be different for you who respect my name. My power to make you well again will come to you. It will be like the sun that rises to shine on you. When that happens, you will be very happy. You will jump up and down like young cows when someone lets them go free. [ a ] 3 Then you will walk over the wicked people. They will be like ashes under your feet. That will happen on the day when I do these things.’
That is what the Lord Almighty says.
4 ‘Remember the rules that I gave to my servant Moses at Sinai mountain. Those rules and laws were for all the Israelites to obey. [ b ]
5 Look! I will send my prophet Elijah to you. [ c ] He will come before that great day of the Lord arrives. That will be a day that makes people afraid. 6 He will speak my message, so that fathers and their children return together to me. [ d ] Then I will not have to come and bring punishment on the land.’
4 “That time of judgment is coming. It will be like a hot furnace. All the proud people will be punished. All the evil people will burn like straw. At that time they will be like a bush burning in the fire, and there will not be a branch or root left.” This is what the Lord All-Powerful said.
2 “But, for my followers, goodness will shine on you like the rising sun. And it will bring healing power like the sun’s rays. You will be free and happy, like calves freed from their stalls. [ a ] 3 Then you will walk on the evil people—they will be like ashes under your feet. I will make this happen at the time of judgment.” This is what the Lord All-Powerful said.
4 “Remember and obey the law of my servant Moses. I gave those laws and rules to him at Mount Horeb. They are for all the people of Israel.
5 “Look, I will send Elijah the prophet to you. He will come before that great and terrible time of judgment from the Lord . 6 Elijah will help the parents become close to their children, and he will help the children become close to their parents. This must happen, or I will come and completely destroy your country.”
4 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.
2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
3 And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the Lord of hosts.
4 Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.
5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord :
6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.
4 “ [ a ] For behold, the day is coming, ( A ) burning like a furnace; and all the arrogant and every evildoer will be ( B ) chaff; and the day that is coming will ( C ) set them ablaze,” says the Lord of armies, “so that it will leave them neither root nor branches. 2 But for you who [ b ] fear My name, the ( D ) sun of righteousness will rise with ( E ) healing in its wings; and you will go forth and ( F ) frolic like calves from the stall. 3 And you will ( G ) crush the wicked underfoot, for they will be ( H ) ashes under the soles of your feet ( I ) on the day [ c ] that I am preparing,” says the Lord of armies.
4 “ ( J ) Remember the Law of Moses My servant, the statutes and ordinances which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel.
5 “Behold, I am going to send you ( K ) Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord . 6 He will ( L ) turn the hearts of the fathers back to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I will not come and ( M ) strike the land with complete destruction.”
4 [ a ] “Surely the day is coming; ( A ) it will burn like a furnace. ( B ) All the arrogant ( C ) and every evildoer will be stubble, ( D ) and the day that is coming will set them on fire, ( E ) ” says the Lord Almighty. “Not a root or a branch ( F ) will be left to them. 2 But for you who revere my name, ( G ) the sun of righteousness ( H ) will rise with healing ( I ) in its rays. And you will go out and frolic ( J ) like well-fed calves. 3 Then you will trample ( K ) on the wicked; they will be ashes ( L ) under the soles of your feet on the day when I act,” says the Lord Almighty.
4 “Remember the law ( M ) of my servant Moses, the decrees and laws I gave him at Horeb ( N ) for all Israel. ( O )
5 “See, I will send the prophet Elijah ( P ) to you before that great and dreadful day of the Lord comes. ( Q ) 6 He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, ( R ) and the hearts of the children to their parents; or else I will come and strike ( S ) the land with total destruction.” ( T )
