- Joshua Chapter 15
15 This is the land that Joshua gave to the tribe of Judah, clan by clan. Their land went south along the border of Edom, as far as the wilderness of Zin in the Negev.
2 The south border of Judah's land was from the south end of the Salt Sea. 3 It went across the south side of the Scorpion Hill, to Zin. From the south it went up to Kadesh-Barnea, as far as Hebron. Their border continued past Addar, and it turned towards Karka. 4 Then it went to Azmon and it continued to the Stream of Egypt. It finished at the sea. That was the south border of Judah's land.
5 Judah's east border went from the Salt Sea as far as the end of the Jordan River.
Their north border started from the end of the Jordan at the Salt Sea. 6 From there it went to Beth Hoglah. Then it went north of Beth Arabah to the stone of Bohan. (Bohan was a son of Reuben.) 7 The border went from the valley of Achor to Debir. [ a ] Then it went north to Gilgal. Gilgal is opposite the Adummim hill, on the south side of the valley. Then it reached the springs of En Shemesh to En Rogel. 8 From there it went through the valley of Hinnom to the south side of a hill beside the Jebusite city of Jerusalem. Judah's border then continued to the top of the hill on the west side of the Hinnom valley. This was at the north end of the valley of the Rephaites. 9 From there it went to the springs of Nephtoah and onto the cities near Mount Ephron. It went towards Baalah (also called Kiriath-Jearim). 10 It went round Baalah towards the hills of Edom. It went north of Jearim mountain (also called Kesalon) down to Beth Shemesh, and it continued on past Timnah. 11 Then it went out to the hills north of Ekron, and on towards Shikkeron. It went past Baalah mountain, as far as Jabneel. Judah's north border ended at the sea.
12 The west border of Judah's land was the Mediterranean Sea.
Those were the borders of the land which Judah's tribe and its clans received.
13 The Lord had told Joshua to give Kiriath Arba to Caleb, Jephunneh's son. That was the part of Judah's land that Caleb received. Arba was the father of Anak. Kiriath Arba was now called Hebron. 14 Caleb chased out the three sons of Anak from Hebron. Their names were Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai. 15 From there he went to attack the people of Debir. (Debir had been called Kiriath Sepher). 16 Caleb said, ‘If a brave man attacks and takes Kiriath Sepher, he can marry my daughter, Acsah.’ 17 Othniel attacked the city and he took it. He was the son of Caleb's brother, Kenaz. So Caleb gave his daughter Acsah to Othniel, to be his wife.
18 After this, Acsah told Othniel that they should ask her father to give them some land. She went to see her father, Caleb. As she got off her donkey, Caleb asked her, ‘What would you like me to do for you?’
19 She said, ‘Please be kind and give me a special gift. You have given me some land in the Negev desert. Now please give me a place with springs so that I have water for the land.’ So Caleb gave her some land with springs, on high land and on low land.
20 This is the land that Joshua gave to the clans of Judah's tribe.
21 These towns were in the south of Judah's land, near the border of Edom:
Kabzeel, Eder, Jagur, 22 Kinah, Dimonah, Adadah, 23 Kedesh, Hazor, Ithnan, 24 Ziph, Telem, and Bealoth. 25 Also Hazor Hadattah, Kerioth Hezron (that is, Hazor), 26 Amam, Shema, Moladah, 27 Hazar-Gaddah, Heshmon, Beth Pelet. 28 Also Hazar-Shual, Beersheba, Biziothiah, 29 Baalah, Iim, Ezem, 30 Eltolad, Kesil, Hormah, 31 Ziklag, Madmannah, Sansannah, 32 Lebaoth, Shilhim, Ain and Rimmon.
That is 29 towns with their villages.
33 These towns were in the low hills in the west:
Eshtaol, Zorah, Ashnah, 34 Zanoah, En Gannim, Tappuah, Enam, 35 Jarmuth, Adullam, Socoh and Azekah. 36 Also he gave them Shaaraim, Adithaim and Gederah, (or Gederothaim).
There were 14 towns and villages.
37 He gave them Zenan, Hadashah, Migdal Gad, 38 Dilean, Mizpah, Joktheel, 39 Lachish, Bozkath, Eglon, 40 Cabbon, Lahmas, and Kitlish. 41 Also he gave them Gederoth, Beth Dagon, Naamah and Makkedah.
There were 16 towns and their villages.
42 He also gave them Libnah, Ether, Ashan, 43 Iphtah, Ashnah, Nezib, 44 Keilah, Aczib and Mareshah.
There were nine towns with their villages.
45 He also gave them Ekron with the houses and villages that belonged to it. 46 And he gave them all those towns west of Ekron, near to Ashdod with their villages. 47 And he gave them Ashdod and Gaza with their houses and villages. They had the land as far as the Stream of Egypt, and to the Mediterranean Sea.
48 These towns were in the hill country:
Shamir, Jattir, Socoh, 49 Dannah, Kiriath Sannah (that is, Debir), 50 and Anab, Eshtemoh, Anim, 51 Goshen, Holon and Giloh.
There were 11 towns and their villages.
52 He also gave them Arab, Dumah, Eshan, 53 Janim, Beth Tappuah, Aphekah, 54 Humtah, Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron) and Zior.
There were nine towns and their villages.
55 Also Maon, Carmel, Ziph, Juttah, 56 Jezreel, Jokdeam, Zanoah, 57 Kain, Gibeah and Timnah.
There were ten towns and their villages.
58 And he gave them Halhul, Beth Zur, Gedor, 59 Maarath, Beth Anoth and Eltekon.
There were six towns and their villages.
60 And Kiriath Baal, (that is, Kiriath-Jearim) and Rabbah.
There were two towns and their villages.
61 These towns were in the desert:
Beth Arabah, Middin, Secacah, 62 Nibshan, Salt city, and En Gedi.
There were six towns and their villages.
63 But the men of Judah's tribe could not chase the Jebusites out of Jerusalem. As a result, the Jebusites still live there, together with the people of Judah.
15 The land that was given to Judah was divided among the families of that tribe. That land went to the border of Edom and south all the way to the desert of Zin at the edge of Teman. 2 The southern border of Judah’s land started at the south end of the Dead Sea. 3 The border went south to Scorpion Pass and continued on to Zin. Then the border continued south to Kadesh Barnea. It continued past Hezron to Addar. From Addar the border turned and continued to Karka. 4 The border continued to Azmon, the brook of Egypt, and then to the Mediterranean Sea. All that land was on their southern border.
5 Their eastern border was the shore of the Dead Sea to the area where the Jordan River flowed into the sea.
Their northern border started at the area where the Jordan River flowed into the Dead Sea. 6 Then the northern border went to Beth Hoglah and continued north of Beth Arabah. The border continued to the stone of Bohan. (Bohan was the son of Reuben.) 7 Then the northern border went through the Valley of Achor to Debir. There the border turned to the north and went to Gilgal. Gilgal is across from the road that goes through the mountain of Adummim. It is on the south side of the brook. The border continued along the waters of En Shemesh. The border stopped at En Rogel. 8 Then the border went through the Valley of Ben Hinnom beside the southern side of the Jebusite city (that is, Jerusalem). There the border went to the top of the hill on the west side of Hinnom Valley. This was at the northern end of Rephaim Valley. 9 From there the border went to the spring of water of Nephtoah. Then the border went to the cities near Mount Ephron. There the border turned and went to Baalah. (Baalah is also called Kiriath Jearim.) 10 At Baalah the border turned west and went to the hill country of Seir. The border continued along the north side of Mount Jearim (Kesalon) and continued down to Beth Shemesh. From there the border went past Timnah. 11 Then the border went to the hill north of Ekron. From there the border turned to Shikkeron and went past Mount Baalah. The border continued on to Jabneel and ended at the Mediterranean Sea. 12 The Mediterranean Sea was the western border. So the land of Judah was inside these four borders. The families of Judah lived in this area.
13 The Lord had commanded Joshua to give Caleb son of Jephunneh part of the land in Judah. So Joshua gave Caleb the land God had commanded. Joshua gave him the town of Kiriath Arba, that is, Hebron. (Arba was the father of Anak.) 14 Caleb forced the three Anakite families living in Hebron to leave there. Those families were Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai. They were from the family of Anak. 15 Then Caleb fought against the people living in Debir. (In the past, Debir was also called Kiriath Sepher.) 16 Caleb said, “I will give my daughter in marriage to the man who attacks and conquers Kiriath Sepher.”
17 Othniel was the son of Caleb’s brother Kenaz. Othniel defeated that city, so Caleb gave his daughter Acsah to Othniel to be his wife. 18 Acsah went to live with Othniel. Othniel told Acsah [ a ] to ask her father Caleb for some more land. Acsah went to her father. When she got off her donkey, Caleb asked her, “What do you want?”
19 Acsah answered, “Give me a blessing. [ b ] You gave me dry desert land in the Negev. Please give me some land with water on it.” So Caleb gave her what she wanted. He gave her the upper and lower pools of water in that land.
20 The tribe of Judah got the land that God promised them. Each family group got part of the land.
21 The tribe of Judah got all the towns in the southern part of the Negev. These towns were near the border of Edom. Here is a list of the towns:
Kabzeel, Eder, Jagur, 22 Kinah, Dimonah, Adadah, 23 Kedesh, Hazor, Ithnan, 24 Ziph, Telem, Bealoth, 25 Hazor Hadattah, Kerioth Hezron (Hazor), 26 Amam, Shema, Moladah, 27 Hazar Gaddah, Heshmon, Beth Pelet, 28 Hazar Shual, Beersheba, Biziothiah, 29 Baalah, Iim, Ezem, 30 Eltolad, Kesil, Hormah, 31 Ziklag, Madmannah, Sansannah, 32 Lebaoth, Shilhim, Ain, and Rimmon. In all, there were 29 towns and all their fields.
33 The tribe of Judah also got these towns in the western foothills:
Eshtaol, Zorah, Ashnah, 34 Zanoah, En Gannim, Tappuah, Enam, 35 Jarmuth, Adullam, Socoh, Azekah, 36 Shaaraim, Adithaim, and Gederah (Gederothaim). In all, there were 14 towns and all their fields.
37 The tribe of Judah was also given these towns:
Zenan, Hadashah, Migdal Gad, 38 Dilean, Mizpah, Joktheel, 39 Lachish, Bozkath, Eglon, 40 Cabbon, Lahmas, Kitlish, 41 Gederoth, Beth Dagon, Naamah, and Makkedah. In all, there were 16 towns and all the fields around them.
42 The people of Judah also got these towns:
Libnah, Ether, Ashan, 43 Iphtah, Ashnah, Nezib, 44 Keilah, Aczib, and Mareshah. In all, there were nine towns and all the fields around them. 45 The people of Judah also got the town of Ekron and all the small towns and fields near it. 46 They also got the area west of Ekron and all the fields and towns near Ashdod. 47 All the area around Ashdod and the small towns there were part of the land of Judah. The people of Judah also got the area around Gaza and the fields and towns that were near it. Their land continued to the River of Egypt. And their land continued along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea.
48 The people of Judah were also given these towns in the hill country:
Shamir, Jattir, Socoh, 49 Dannah, Kiriath Sannah (Debir), 50 Anab, Eshtemoh, Anim, 51 Goshen, Holon, and Giloh. In all, there were eleven towns and all the fields around them.
52 The people of Judah were also given these towns:
Arab, Dumah, Eshan, 53 Janim, Beth Tappuah, Aphekah, 54 Humtah, Kiriath Arba (Hebron), and Zior. There were nine towns and all the fields around them.
55 The people of Judah were also given these towns:
Maon, Carmel, Ziph, Juttah, 56 Jezreel, Jokdeam, Zanoah, 57 Kain, Gibeah, and Timnah. In all, there were ten towns and all the fields around them.
58 The people of Judah were also given these towns:
Halhul, Beth Zur, Gedor, 59 Maarath, Beth Anoth, and Eltekon. In all, there were six towns and all the fields around them.
60 The people of Judah were also given the two towns of Rabbah and Kiriath Baal (Kiriath Jearim).
61 The people of Judah were also given these towns in the desert:
Beth Arabah, Middin, Secacah, 62 Nibshan, Salt City, and En Gedi. In all, there were six towns and all the fields around them.
63 The army of Judah was not able to force out the Jebusites living in Jerusalem. So today there are still Jebusites living among the people of Judah in Jerusalem.
15 This then was the lot of the tribe of the children of Judah by their families; even to the border of Edom the wilderness of Zin southward was the uttermost part of the south coast.
2 And their south border was from the shore of the salt sea, from the bay that looketh southward:
3 And it went out to the south side to Maalehacrabbim, and passed along to Zin, and ascended up on the south side unto Kadeshbarnea, and passed along to Hezron, and went up to Adar, and fetched a compass to Karkaa:
4 From thence it passed toward Azmon, and went out unto the river of Egypt; and the goings out of that coast were at the sea: this shall be your south coast.
5 And the east border was the salt sea, even unto the end of Jordan. And their border in the north quarter was from the bay of the sea at the uttermost part of Jordan:
6 And the border went up to Bethhogla, and passed along by the north of Betharabah; and the border went up to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben:
7 And the border went up toward Debir from the valley of Achor, and so northward, looking toward Gilgal, that is before the going up to Adummim, which is on the south side of the river: and the border passed toward the waters of Enshemesh, and the goings out thereof were at Enrogel:
8 And the border went up by the valley of the son of Hinnom unto the south side of the Jebusite; the same is Jerusalem: and the border went up to the top of the mountain that lieth before the valley of Hinnom westward, which is at the end of the valley of the giants northward:
9 And the border was drawn from the top of the hill unto the fountain of the water of Nephtoah, and went out to the cities of mount Ephron; and the border was drawn to Baalah, which is Kirjathjearim:
10 And the border compassed from Baalah westward unto mount Seir, and passed along unto the side of mount Jearim, which is Chesalon, on the north side, and went down to Bethshemesh, and passed on to Timnah:
11 And the border went out unto the side of Ekron northward: and the border was drawn to Shicron, and passed along to mount Baalah, and went out unto Jabneel; and the goings out of the border were at the sea.
12 And the west border was to the great sea, and the coast thereof. This is the coast of the children of Judah round about according to their families.
13 And unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a part among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of the Lord to Joshua, even the city of Arba the father of Anak, which city is Hebron.
14 And Caleb drove thence the three sons of Anak, Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak.
15 And he went up thence to the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjathsepher.
16 And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjathsepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.
17 And Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.
18 And it came to pass, as she came unto him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wouldest thou?
19 Who answered, Give me a blessing; for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And he gave her the upper springs, and the nether springs.
20 This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families.
21 And the uttermost cities of the tribe of the children of Judah toward the coast of Edom southward were Kabzeel, and Eder, and Jagur,
22 And Kinah, and Dimonah, and Adadah,
23 And Kedesh, and Hazor, and Ithnan,
24 Ziph, and Telem, and Bealoth,
25 And Hazor, Hadattah, and Kerioth, and Hezron, which is Hazor,
26 Amam, and Shema, and Moladah,
27 And Hazargaddah, and Heshmon, and Bethpalet,
28 And Hazarshual, and Beersheba, and Bizjothjah,
29 Baalah, and Iim, and Azem,
30 And Eltolad, and Chesil, and Hormah,
31 And Ziklag, and Madmannah, and Sansannah,
32 And Lebaoth, and Shilhim, and Ain, and Rimmon: all the cities are twenty and nine, with their villages:
33 And in the valley, Eshtaol, and Zoreah, and Ashnah,
34 And Zanoah, and Engannim, Tappuah, and Enam,
35 Jarmuth, and Adullam, Socoh, and Azekah,
36 And Sharaim, and Adithaim, and Gederah, and Gederothaim; fourteen cities with their villages:
37 Zenan, and Hadashah, and Migdalgad,
38 And Dilean, and Mizpeh, and Joktheel,
39 Lachish, and Bozkath, and Eglon,
40 And Cabbon, and Lahmam, and Kithlish,
41 And Gederoth, Bethdagon, and Naamah, and Makkedah; sixteen cities with their villages:
42 Libnah, and Ether, and Ashan,
43 And Jiphtah, and Ashnah, and Nezib,
44 And Keilah, and Achzib, and Mareshah; nine cities with their villages:
45 Ekron, with her towns and her villages:
46 From Ekron even unto the sea, all that lay near Ashdod, with their villages:
47 Ashdod with her towns and her villages, Gaza with her towns and her villages, unto the river of Egypt, and the great sea, and the border thereof:
48 And in the mountains, Shamir, and Jattir, and Socoh,
49 And Dannah, and Kirjathsannah, which is Debir,
50 And Anab, and Eshtemoh, and Anim,
51 And Goshen, and Holon, and Giloh; eleven cities with their villages:
52 Arab, and Dumah, and Eshean,
53 And Janum, and Bethtappuah, and Aphekah,
54 And Humtah, and Kirjatharba, which is Hebron, and Zior; nine cities with their villages:

59 And Maarath, and Bethanoth, and Eltekon; six cities with their villages:
60 Kirjathbaal, which is Kirjathjearim, and Rabbah; two cities with their villages:
61 In the wilderness, Betharabah, Middin, and Secacah,
62 And Nibshan, and the city of Salt, and Engedi; six cities with their villages.
63 As for the Jebusites the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not drive them out; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Judah at Jerusalem unto this day.
15 Now ( A ) the lot for the tribe of the sons of Judah according to their families [ a ] reached the ( B ) border of Edom, southward to the ( C ) wilderness of Zin at the extreme south. 2 Their southern border was from the lower end of the Salt Sea, from the bay that turns to the south. 3 Then it proceeded southward to the ascent of Akrabbim and continued to Zin, then went up by the south of Kadesh-barnea and continued to Hezron, and went up to Addar and turned to Karka. 4 It ( D ) continued to Azmon and proceeded to the [ b ] ( E ) brook of Egypt, and the [ c ] border ended at the sea. This shall be your southern border. 5 The ( F ) eastern border was the Salt Sea, as far as the [ d ] mouth of the Jordan. And the ( G ) border of the north side was from the bay of the sea at the [ e ] mouth of the Jordan. 6 Then the border went up to Beth-hoglah, and continued on the north of Beth-arabah, and the border went up to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben. 7 And the border went up to Debir from ( H ) the Valley of Achor, and turned northward toward Gilgal which is opposite the ascent of Adummim, which is on the south of the valley; and the border continued to the waters of En-shemesh and [ f ] it ended at En-rogel. 8 Then the border went up the Valley of Ben-hinnom to the slope of the ( I ) Jebusite on the south (that is, Jerusalem); and the border went up to the top of the mountain which is opposite the Valley of Hinnom to the west, which is at the end of the Valley of Rephaim toward the north. 9 And from the top of the mountain the border turned to the spring of the waters of Nephtoah and proceeded to the cities of Mount Ephron, then the border turned to ( J ) Baalah (that is, ( K ) Kiriath-jearim). 10 The border turned from Baalah westward to Mount Seir, and continued to the slope of Mount Jearim on the north (that is, Chesalon), and went down to Beth-shemesh and continued through ( L ) Timnah. 11 Then the border proceeded to the side of Ekron northward. And the border turned to Shikkeron and continued to Mount Baalah and proceeded to Jabneel, and the [ g ] border ended at the sea. 12 The western border was ( M ) at the Great Sea, even its [ h ] coastline. This is the border around the sons of Judah according to their families.
13 Now ( N ) he gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh a portion ( O ) among the sons of Judah, in accordance with the [ i ] command of the Lord to Joshua, namely , [ j ] Kiriath-arba, Arba being the father of Anak (that is, Hebron). 14 And ( P ) Caleb [ k ] drove out from there the three ( Q ) sons of Anak: Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak. 15 Then ( R ) he went up from there against the inhabitants of Debir; now the name of Debir previously was Kiriath-sepher. 16 And Caleb said, “The one who [ l ] attacks Kiriath-sepher and captures it, [ m ] I will give him Achsah my daughter as a wife.” 17 ( S ) Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, captured it; so he gave him Achsah his daughter as a wife. 18 ( T ) And it happened that when she came to him , she incited him to ask her father for a field. So she dismounted from the donkey, and Caleb said to her, “What do you want?” 19 Then she said, “Give me a blessing; since you have given me the land of the [ n ] Negev, give me springs of water also.” So he gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.
20 This is the inheritance of the tribe of the sons of Judah according to their families.
21 Now the cities at the extremity of the tribe of the sons of Judah toward the border of Edom in the south were Kabzeel, ( U ) Eder, and Jagur, 22 Kinah, Dimonah, and Adadah, 23 Kedesh, Hazor, and Ithnan, 24 Ziph, Telem, and Bealoth, 25 Hazor-hadattah, Kerioth-hezron (that is, Hazor), 26 Amam, Shema, and Moladah, 27 Hazar-gaddah, Heshmon, and Beth-pelet, 28 Hazar-shual, ( V ) Beersheba, and Biziothiah, 29 Baalah, Iim, and Ezem, 30 Eltolad, Chesil, and Hormah, 31 ( W ) Ziklag, Madmannah, and Sansannah, 32 Lebaoth, Shilhim, Ain, and Rimmon; in all, twenty-nine cities with their villages.
33 In the lowland: ( X ) Eshtaol, Zorah, and Ashnah, 34 Zanoah, En-gannim, Tappuah, and Enam, 35 Jarmuth, ( Y ) Adullam, Socoh, and Azekah, 36 Shaaraim, Adithaim, Gederah, and Gederothaim; fourteen cities with their villages.
37 Zenan, Hadashah, and Migdal-gad, 38 Dilean, Mizpeh, and Joktheel, 39 ( Z ) Lachish, Bozkath, and Eglon, 40 Cabbon, Lahmas, and Chitlish, 41 Gederoth, Beth-dagon, Naamah, and Makkedah; sixteen cities with their villages.
42 Libnah, Ether, and Ashan, 43 Iphtah, Ashnah, and Nezib, 44 Keilah, Achzib, and Mareshah; nine cities with their villages.
45 Ekron, with its towns and its villages; 46 from Ekron even to the sea, all that were by the [ o ] side of Ashdod, with their villages.
47 Ashdod, its towns and its villages; Gaza, its towns and its villages, as far as ( AA ) the [ p ] brook of Egypt and the Great Sea, even its [ q ] coastline.
48 In the hill country: Shamir, Jattir, and Socoh, 49 Dannah, Kiriath-sannah (that is, Debir), 50 Anab, Eshtemoh, Anim, 51 Goshen, Holon, and Giloh; eleven cities with their villages.
52 Arab, Dumah, and Eshan, 53 Janum, Beth-tappuah, and Aphekah, 54 Humtah, Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), and Zior; nine cities with their villages.
55 Maon, Carmel, Ziph, and Juttah, 56 Jezreel, Jokdeam, and Zanoah, 57 Kain, Gibeah, and Timnah; ten cities with their villages.
58 Halhul, Beth-zur, and Gedor, 59 Maarath, Beth-anoth, and Eltekon; six cities with their villages.
60 Kiriath-baal (that is, Kiriath-jearim), and Rabbah; two cities with their villages.
61 In the wilderness: Beth-arabah, Middin, and Secacah, 62 Nibshan, the City of Salt, and Engedi; six cities with their villages.
63 Now as for the ( AB ) Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the sons of Judah could not [ r ] drive them out; so the Jebusites live with the sons of Judah in Jerusalem to this day.
15 The allotment for the tribe of Judah, according to its clans, extended down to the territory of Edom, ( B ) to the Desert of Zin ( C ) in the extreme south. ( D )
2 Their southern boundary started from the bay at the southern end of the Dead Sea, ( E ) 3 crossed south of Scorpion Pass, ( F ) continued on to Zin and went over to the south of Kadesh Barnea. ( G ) Then it ran past Hezron up to Addar and curved around to Karka. 4 It then passed along to Azmon ( H ) and joined the Wadi of Egypt, ( I ) ending at the Mediterranean Sea. This is their [ a ] southern boundary.
5 The eastern boundary ( J ) is the Dead Sea ( K ) as far as the mouth of the Jordan.
The northern boundary ( L ) started from the bay of the sea at the mouth of the Jordan, 6 went up to Beth Hoglah ( M ) and continued north of Beth Arabah ( N ) to the Stone of Bohan ( O ) son of Reuben. 7 The boundary then went up to Debir ( P ) from the Valley of Achor ( Q ) and turned north to Gilgal, ( R ) which faces the Pass of Adummim south of the gorge. It continued along to the waters of En Shemesh ( S ) and came out at En Rogel. ( T ) 8 Then it ran up the Valley of Ben Hinnom ( U ) along the southern slope of the Jebusite ( V ) city (that is, Jerusalem ( W ) ). From there it climbed to the top of the hill west of the Hinnom Valley ( X ) at the northern end of the Valley of Rephaim. ( Y ) 9 From the hilltop the boundary headed toward the spring of the waters of Nephtoah, ( Z ) came out at the towns of Mount Ephron and went down toward Baalah ( AA ) (that is, Kiriath Jearim). ( AB ) 10 Then it curved westward from Baalah ( AC ) to Mount Seir, ( AD ) ran along the northern slope of Mount Jearim (that is, Kesalon), continued down to Beth Shemesh ( AE ) and crossed to Timnah. ( AF ) 11 It went to the northern slope of Ekron, ( AG ) turned toward Shikkeron, passed along to Mount Baalah ( AH ) and reached Jabneel. ( AI ) The boundary ended at the sea.
12 The western boundary is the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea. ( AJ )
These are the boundaries around the people of Judah by their clans.
13 In accordance with the Lord ’s command to him, Joshua gave to Caleb ( AK ) son of Jephunneh a portion in Judah—Kiriath Arba ( AL ) , that is, Hebron. ( AM ) (Arba was the forefather of Anak.) ( AN ) 14 From Hebron Caleb drove out the three Anakites ( AO ) —Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai, ( AP ) the sons of Anak. ( AQ ) 15 From there he marched against the people living in Debir (formerly called Kiriath Sepher). 16 And Caleb said, “I will give my daughter Aksah ( AR ) in marriage to the man who attacks and captures Kiriath Sepher.” 17 Othniel ( AS ) son of Kenaz, Caleb’s brother, took it; so Caleb gave his daughter Aksah to him in marriage.
18 One day when she came to Othniel, she urged him [ b ] to ask her father for a field. When she got off her donkey, Caleb asked her, “What can I do for you?”
19 She replied, “Do me a special favor. Since you have given me land in the Negev, ( AT ) give me also springs of water.” So Caleb gave her the upper and lower springs. ( AU )
