- Job Chapter 25
25 Then Bildad, the man from Shuah, replied. This is what he said:
2 ‘God rules everything
and we should be afraid of his great power.
In heaven above he causes there to be peace.
3 The number of angels in his armies are too many to count.
His light shines over everyone.
4 No human is righteous when he stands in front of God.
He cannot be pure.
5 When God looks at the moon and the stars,
they do not seem to be pure and bright.
6 So when God looks at us humans,
we do not seem important to him.
To him, we are as useless as worms.’
25 Then Bildad from Shuah answered:
2 “God is the ruler.
He makes people fear and respect him.
He keeps peace in his kingdom above.
3 No one can count his stars. [ a ]
His sun rises on all people.
4 How can anyone claim to be right before God?
No human being [ b ] can really be pure.
5 In God’s eyes even the moon is not pure and bright;
even the stars are not pure.
6 People are much less pure.
They are like maggots, as worthless as worms!”
25 Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,
2 Dominion and fear are with him, he maketh peace in his high places.
3 Is there any number of his armies? and upon whom doth not his light arise?
4 How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman?
5 Behold even to the moon, and it shineth not; yea, the stars are not pure in his sight.
6 How much less man, that is a worm? and the son of man, which is a worm?
25 Then Bildad the Shuhite responded,
2 “ ( A ) Dominion and awe [ a ] belong to Him
Who makes peace in ( B ) His heights.
3 Is there any number to ( C ) His troops?
And upon whom does His light not rise?
4 How then can mankind be ( D ) righteous with God?
Or how can anyone who is born of woman be ( E ) pure?
5 If even ( F ) the moon has no brightness
And the ( G ) stars are not pure in His sight,
6 How much less ( H ) man, that ( I ) maggot,
And a son of man, that worm!”
25 Then Bildad the Shuhite ( A ) replied:
2 “Dominion and awe belong to God; ( B )
he establishes order in the heights of heaven. ( C )
3 Can his forces be numbered?
On whom does his light not rise? ( D )
4 How then can a mortal be righteous before God?
How can one born of woman be pure? ( E )
5 If even the moon ( F ) is not bright
and the stars are not pure in his eyes, ( G )
6 how much less a mortal, who is but a maggot—
a human being, ( H ) who is only a worm!” ( I )
