- Isaiah Chapter 62
62 Because I love Zion,
I will not be quiet.
I cannot stay quiet,
because Jerusalem is in trouble.
I will continue to speak until she is safe again.
I want her righteousness to shine
like the sun at dawn.
I want her salvation to be a bright light in the dark.
2 Jerusalem, the nations will see your righteousness.
All their kings will see how great you are.
People will call you by a new name,
which the Lord himself will give to you.
3 The Lord your God will hold you in his hand,
and you will bring him honour.
You will be like his beautiful crown!
4 They will no longer call you by the name ‘Alone’.
They will not call your land ‘Empty place’.
Instead, they will call you ‘The one that makes God happy’.
The name of your land will be ‘Married’.
Yes, the Lord will be very happy with you.
Your land will be his bride.
5 As a young man marries a pure young woman,
so your sons will marry you, Jerusalem. [ a ]
Your God will be very happy that you belong to him,
as a bridegroom is happy with his new wife.
6 I have put guards on your walls, Jerusalem.
They should never be quiet,
during the day and during the night.
You people who cause the Lord to remember his promises,
never stop and rest!
7 Do not give the Lord a chance to rest,
until he has made Jerusalem strong again.
Continue to pray until he makes it a famous city
that the whole world will praise.
8 The Lord makes a strong promise,
and he has the power to make it happen.
He says:
‘I will never again take away your grain,
and give it to your enemies for food.
Foreign soldiers will not drink your wine
that you have worked very hard to make.
9 Instead, the people who pick the grain at harvest time
are the people who will eat it.
And they will praise the Lord for it.
The people who pick the grapes
will drink the wine.
They will drink it in the yards of my temple.’
10 Pass through the gates! Pass through the gates!
Prepare the way for the people to travel on.
Build up the road! Make it strong!
Remove the stones!
Lift up a flag,
so that the nations can see the way to go.
11 Look! The Lord has this message for the whole earth:
‘Say to the people of Zion,
“Look! Your Saviour is coming!
Look again! He is bringing his gifts with him.
He brings the prize that he has won.” ’ [ b ]
12 Their name will be ‘God's holy People’,
and ‘The People that the Lord has redeemed’.
And Jerusalem's name will be ‘The City where people are happy’,
and ‘The City that is full of people’.
62 I love Zion,
so I will continue to speak for her.
I love Jerusalem,
so I will not stop speaking.
I will speak until goodness [ a ] shines like a bright light,
until salvation burns bright like a flame.
2 Then all nations will see your goodness.
All kings will see your honor.
Then you will have a new name
that the Lord himself will give you.
3 You will be like a beautiful crown that the Lord holds up,
like a king’s crown in the hand of your God.
4 You will never again be called ‘The People God Left.’
Your land will never again be called ‘The Land God Destroyed.’
You will be called ‘The People God Loves.’
Your land will be called ‘God’s Bride,’
because the Lord loves you,
and your land will be his. [ b ]
5 As a young man takes a bride and she belongs to him,
so your land will belong to your children. [ c ]
As a man is happy with his new wife,
so your God will be happy with you.
6 Jerusalem, I put guards on your walls.
They will not be silent.
They will keep praying day and night.
Guards, keep praying to the Lord .
Remind him of his promise.
Don’t ever stop praying.
7 Don’t give him any rest until he rebuilds Jerusalem
and makes it a place that everyone on earth will praise.
8 The Lord made a promise and guaranteed it by his own power.
And he will use that power to keep his promise.
The Lord said, “I promise that I will never again give your food to your enemies.
I promise that they will never again take the wine you make.
9 Whoever gathers the food will eat it and praise the Lord .
Whoever gathers the grape will drink the wine in the courtyards of my Temple.”
10 Come through the gates!
Clear the way for the people!
Prepare the road!
Move all the stones off the road!
Raise a flag as a sign for the nations!
11 Listen, the Lord is speaking
to all the faraway lands:
“Tell the people of Zion,
‘Look, your Savior is coming.
He is bringing your reward to you.
He is bringing it with him.’”
12 His people will be called “The Holy People,”
“The Saved People of the Lord .”
And you, Jerusalem, will be called “The City God Wants,”
“The City God Is With.”
62 For Zion's sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth.
2 And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the Lord shall name.
3 Thou shalt also be a crown of glory in the hand of the Lord , and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God.
4 Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall thy land any more be termed Desolate: but thou shalt be called Hephzibah, and thy land Beulah: for the Lord delighteth in thee, and thy land shall be married.
5 For as a young man marrieth a virgin, so shall thy sons marry thee: and as the bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride, so shall thy God rejoice over thee.
6 I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the Lord , keep not silence,
7 And give him no rest, till he establish, and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth.
8 The Lord hath sworn by his right hand, and by the arm of his strength, Surely I will no more give thy corn to be meat for thine enemies; and the sons of the stranger shall not drink thy wine, for the which thou hast laboured:
9 But they that have gathered it shall eat it, and praise the Lord ; and they that have brought it together shall drink it in the courts of my holiness.
10 Go through, go through the gates; prepare ye the way of the people; cast up, cast up the highway; gather out the stones; lift up a standard for the people.
11 Behold, the Lord hath proclaimed unto the end of the world, Say ye to the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy salvation cometh; behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.
12 And they shall call them, The holy people, The redeemed of the Lord : and thou shalt be called, Sought out, A city not forsaken.
62 For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent,
And for Jerusalem’s sake I will not keep quiet,
Until her ( A ) righteousness goes forth like brightness,
And her ( B ) salvation like a torch that is burning.
2 The ( C ) nations will see your righteousness,
And all kings your glory;
And you will be called by a new ( D ) name
Which the mouth of the Lord will designate.
3 You will also be a ( E ) crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord ,
And a royal headband in the hand of your God.
4 It will no longer be said to you, “ [ a ] ( F ) Forsaken,”
Nor to your land will it any longer be said, “ [ b ] Desolate”;
But you will be called, “ [ c ] My delight is in her,”
And your land, “ [ d ] ( G ) Married”;
For the ( H ) Lord delights in you,
And to Him your land will be married.
5 For as a young man marries a virgin,
So your sons will marry you;
And as the [ e ] groom rejoices over the bride,
So your ( I ) God will rejoice over you.
6 On your walls, Jerusalem, I have appointed ( J ) watchmen;
All day and all night they will never keep silent.
You who ( K ) profess the Lord , take no rest for yourselves;
7 And ( L ) give Him no rest until He establishes
And makes ( M ) Jerusalem an object of praise on the earth.
8 ( N ) The Lord has sworn by His right hand and by His mighty arm:
“I will ( O ) never again give your grain as food for your enemies,
Nor will [ f ] foreigners drink your new wine for which you have labored.”
9 But those who ( P ) harvest it will eat it and praise the Lord ;
And those who gather it will drink it in the courtyards of My sanctuary.
10 Go through, ( Q ) go through the gates,
Clear a way [ g ] for the people!
( R ) Build up, build up the ( S ) highway,
Remove the stones, lift up a ( T ) flag over the peoples.
11 Behold, the Lord has proclaimed to the ( U ) end of the earth:
( V ) Say to the daughter of Zion, “Behold, your ( W ) salvation is coming;
( X ) Behold His reward is with Him, and His compensation before Him.”
12 And they will call them, “ ( Y ) The holy people,
The ( Z ) redeemed of the Lord ”;
And you will be called, “Sought Out, A City ( AA ) Not Abandoned.”
62 For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, ( A )
for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain quiet,
till her vindication ( B ) shines out like the dawn, ( C )
her salvation ( D ) like a blazing torch.
2 The nations ( E ) will see your vindication,
and all kings your glory;
you will be called by a new name ( F )
that the mouth of the Lord will bestow.
3 You will be a crown ( G ) of splendor in the Lord ’s hand,
a royal diadem in the hand of your God.
4 No longer will they call you Deserted, ( H )
or name your land Desolate. ( I )
But you will be called Hephzibah, [ a ] ( J )
and your land Beulah [ b ] ;
for the Lord will take delight ( K ) in you,
and your land will be married. ( L )
5 As a young man marries a young woman,
so will your Builder marry you;
as a bridegroom ( M ) rejoices over his bride,
so will your God rejoice ( N ) over you.
6 I have posted watchmen ( O ) on your walls, Jerusalem;
they will never be silent day or night.
You who call on the Lord ,
give yourselves no rest, ( P )
7 and give him no rest ( Q ) till he establishes Jerusalem
and makes her the praise ( R ) of the earth.
8 The Lord has sworn ( S ) by his right hand
and by his mighty arm:
“Never again will I give your grain ( T )
as food for your enemies,
and never again will foreigners drink the new wine
for which you have toiled;
9 but those who harvest it will eat ( U ) it
and praise the Lord , ( V )
and those who gather the grapes will drink it
in the courts of my sanctuary.” ( W )
10 Pass through, pass through the gates! ( X )
Prepare the way for the people.
Build up, build up the highway! ( Y )
Remove the stones.
Raise a banner ( Z ) for the nations.
11 The Lord has made proclamation
to the ends of the earth: ( AA )
“Say to Daughter Zion, ( AB )
‘See, your Savior comes! ( AC )
See, his reward is with him,
and his recompense accompanies him.’” ( AD )
12 They will be called ( AE ) the Holy People, ( AF )
the Redeemed ( AG ) of the Lord ;
and you will be called Sought After,
the City No Longer Deserted. ( AH )
