- Isaiah Chapter 15
15 This is a message about Moab:
In one night an enemy has destroyed Ar.
In one night they have destroyed Kir.
Those towns in Moab are now a heap of stones!
2 The people in Dibon have gone up to their temple to weep. They have gone up to the altars where they worship their gods. Moab's people are weeping because of what has happened at Nebo and Medeba. They are so upset that they have cut off their hair and their beards. 3 They are wearing rough sackcloth in the streets. On the roofs of their houses and in the open places in their towns, they are weeping. They fall to the ground as they weep.
4 The people in Heshbon and Elealeh cry aloud. People as far as Jahaz hear the sound of their voices! The soldiers of Moab cry aloud because they are afraid. They are shaking with fear.
5 I am very upset because of what is happening to Moab's people. They are running away, as far as Zoar and Eglath-Shelishiyah.
They weep while they climb up the hill to Luhith.
On the road to Horonaim they shout aloud,
‘An enemy has destroyed us!’
6 Streams in Nimrim valley have become dry.
The grass has died. No green plants remain.
7 So Moab's people are leaving.
They are going across Willow stream.
They are carrying away their things
and the food that they had stored.
8 Everywhere in Moab's country the people are calling out for help.
The noise of their sad songs has reached Eglaim and Beer-Elim.
9 Blood fills the streams of Dimon.
But I, the Lord , will cause even more trouble to happen there.
A lion is ready to attack!
Those who are trying to escape will die,
as well as those who remain in the land.
15 This is a message about Moab:
One night armies took the wealth from Ar in Moab,
and the city was destroyed.
One night armies took the wealth from Kir in Moab,
and the city was destroyed.
2 The king’s family and the people of Dibon [ a ] go to the places of worship [ b ] to cry.
The people of Moab are crying for Nebo [ c ] and Medeba. [ d ]
They have shaved their heads and beards to show their sadness.
3 Everywhere in Moab, on the housetops and in the streets,
people are wearing sackcloth.
Everyone is crying.
4 In Heshbon and Elealeh they are crying loudly.
You can hear their voices as far away as Jahaz.
Even the soldiers are frightened.
They are shaking with fear.
5 My heart cries, full of sorrow for Moab.
Its people run away to Zoar for safety.
They run to Eglath Shelishiyah.
The people are crying
as they go up the road to Luhith.
They are crying loudly
as they walk on the road to Horonaim.
6 But Nimrim Brook is as dry as a desert.
The grass has dried up,
and the plants are all dead.
Nothing is green.
7 So the people gather up everything they own
and cross the border at Arabah stream.
8 You can hear crying everywhere in Moab—
as far away as Eglaim and Beer Elim.
9 The water of Dimon [ e ] is full of blood,
and I will bring even more troubles to Dimon.
A few people living in Moab have escaped the enemy,
but I will send lions to eat them.
15 The burden of Moab. Because in the night Ar of Moab is laid waste, and brought to silence; because in the night Kir of Moab is laid waste, and brought to silence;
2 He is gone up to Bajith, and to Dibon, the high places, to weep: Moab shall howl over Nebo, and over Medeba: on all their heads shall be baldness, and every beard cut off.
3 In their streets they shall gird themselves with sackcloth: on the tops of their houses, and in their streets, every one shall howl, weeping abundantly.
4 And Heshbon shall cry, and Elealeh: their voice shall be heard even unto Jahaz: therefore the armed soldiers of Moab shall cry out; his life shall be grievous unto him.
5 My heart shall cry out for Moab; his fugitives shall flee unto Zoar, an heifer of three years old: for by the mounting up of Luhith with weeping shall they go it up; for in the way of Horonaim they shall raise up a cry of destruction.
6 For the waters of Nimrim shall be desolate: for the hay is withered away, the grass faileth, there is no green thing.
7 Therefore the abundance they have gotten, and that which they have laid up, shall they carry away to the brook of the willows.
8 For the cry is gone round about the borders of Moab; the howling thereof unto Eglaim, and the howling thereof unto Beerelim.
9 For the waters of Dimon shall be full of blood: for I will bring more upon Dimon, lions upon him that escapeth of Moab, and upon the remnant of the land.
15 The pronouncement concerning ( A ) Moab:
Certainly in a night ( B ) Ar of Moab is devastated and ruined;
Certainly in a night Kir of Moab is devastated and ruined.
2 [ a ] The people have gone up to the [ b ] temple and to ( C ) Dibon, to the high places to weep.
Moab wails over Nebo and Medeba;
Everyone’s head is ( D ) bald and every beard is cut off.
3 In their streets they have put on ( E ) sackcloth;
( F ) On their housetops and in their public squares
Everyone is wailing, [ c ] ( G ) overcome with weeping.
4 ( H ) Heshbon and Elealeh also cry out,
Their voice is heard all the way to Jahaz;
Therefore the [ d ] armed men of Moab cry aloud;
His soul trembles within him.
5 My heart cries out for Moab;
His fugitives are as far as ( I ) Zoar and Eglath-shelishiyah,
For they go up the ( J ) ascent of Luhith weeping;
Indeed, on the road to Horonaim they raise a cry of distress ( K ) over their collapse.
6 For the ( L ) waters of Nimrim are [ e ] desolate.
Indeed, the grass is withered, the new growth has died,
There is ( M ) no greenery.
7 Therefore the ( N ) abundance which they have acquired and stored up,
They carry it off over the brook of [ f ] Arabim.
8 For the cry of distress has gone around the territory of Moab,
Its wailing goes as far as Eglaim and its howling to Beer-elim.
9 For the waters of Dimon are full of [ g ] blood;
I will certainly bring added woes upon Dimon,
A ( O ) lion upon the fugitives of Moab and the remnant of the land.
15 A prophecy ( B ) against Moab: ( C )
Ar ( D ) in Moab is ruined, ( E )
destroyed in a night!
Kir ( F ) in Moab is ruined,
destroyed in a night!
2 Dibon ( G ) goes up to its temple,
to its high places ( H ) to weep;
Moab wails ( I ) over Nebo ( J ) and Medeba.
Every head is shaved ( K )
and every beard cut off. ( L )
3 In the streets they wear sackcloth; ( M )
on the roofs ( N ) and in the public squares ( O )
they all wail, ( P )
prostrate with weeping. ( Q )
4 Heshbon ( R ) and Elealeh ( S ) cry out,
their voices are heard all the way to Jahaz. ( T )
Therefore the armed men of Moab cry out,
and their hearts are faint.
5 My heart cries out ( U ) over Moab; ( V )
her fugitives ( W ) flee as far as Zoar, ( X )
as far as Eglath Shelishiyah.
They go up the hill to Luhith,
weeping as they go;
on the road to Horonaim ( Y )
they lament their destruction. ( Z )
6 The waters of Nimrim are dried up ( AA )
and the grass is withered; ( AB )
the vegetation is gone ( AC )
and nothing green is left. ( AD )
7 So the wealth they have acquired ( AE ) and stored up
they carry away over the Ravine of the Poplars.
8 Their outcry echoes along the border of Moab;
their wailing reaches as far as Eglaim,
their lamentation as far as Beer ( AF ) Elim.
9 The waters of Dimon [ a ] are full of blood,
but I will bring still more upon Dimon [ b ] —
a lion ( AG ) upon the fugitives of Moab ( AH )
and upon those who remain in the land.
