- Genesis Chapter 10
10 This is the report about Noah's sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, and their families.
After the deep water went away, they all had children themselves.
2 These are the sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech and Tiras. 3 These are the sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath and Togarmah. 4 These are the sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, the Kittim people and the Rodanim people. [ a ]
5 These people lived by the sea. They lived in groups. Each group went to live in a different place. Each group spoke its own language.
6 These are the sons of Ham: Cush, Mizraim, Put and Canaan. 7 These are the sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah and Sabteca. These are the sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan. 8 Cush was also the father of Nimrod. Nimrod became the first brave soldier in the world. 9 The Lord helped Nimrod to be a great hunter. That is why people say, ‘Like Nimrod, a great hunter that the Lord helped.’
10 The first of Nimrod's lands were Babylon, Erech, Akkad and Calneh, in Shinar. 11 From that land he went to Assyria. This is where he built Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir and Calah. 12 He also built Resen. Resen is between Nineveh and Calah, which is a large city. 13 Mizraim was the ancestor of the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites, Naphtuhites, 14 Pathrusites, Kasluhites and Caphtorites. The Philistines were descendants of the Kasluhites. [ b ]
15 Canaan was the father of Sidon, who was born first. Canaan was also the ancestor of the Hittites, 16 Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites, 17 Hivites, Arkites, Sinites, 18 Arvadites, Zemarites and Hamathites. After some time had passed, the Canaanite families separated to different places. 19 The land of Canaan went from Sidon to Gerar, as far as Gaza. It went to Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha. 20 These are all descendants of Ham. They lived in groups in their own parts of the land. Each group spoke their own language.
21 Shem also had sons. Shem was Japheth's older brother. All the sons of Eber are descendants of Shem. 22 These are the sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud and Aram. 23 These are the sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether and Meshech. 24 Arphaxad was the father of Shelah. Shelah was the father of Eber. 25 Eber had two sons. The name of one son was Peleg. When he was alive, people began to live in different places on the earth. That is why his name was Peleg. [ c ] Peleg's brother's name was Joktan.
26 Joktan was the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, 27 Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, 28 Obal, Abimael, Sheba, 29 Ophir, Havilah and Jobab. All those were Joktan's sons. 30 The land where they lived went from Mesha to Sephar. This is in the land with hills in the east. 31 These are the descendants of Shem. They lived in groups in their own parts of the land. Each group spoke their own language.
32 All these people are descendants of Noah's sons, and their children. They went to live in different parts of the earth and their children became different nations. This happened after God covered the earth with water and then the water went away.
10 This is the history of the families of Shem, Ham, and Japheth. They are Noah’s sons. These men had children after the flood.
2 Japheth’s sons were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
3 Gomer’s sons were Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
4 Javan’s sons were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim. [ a ]
5 All the people who lived in the area around the Mediterranean Sea came from these sons of Japheth. The people separated and went to different countries according to languages, families, and nations.
6 Ham’s sons were Cush, [ b ] Mizraim, [ c ] Put, and Canaan.
7 Cush’s sons were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca.
Raamah’s sons were Sheba and Dedan.
8 Cush also had a son named Nimrod who became a very powerful man on earth. 9 He was a great hunter before the Lord . That is why people compare other men to him and say, “That man is like Nimrod, a great hunter before the Lord .”
10 Nimrod’s kingdom spread from Babylon to Erech, to Akkad, and then to Calneh in the land of Babylonia. [ d ] 11 Nimrod also went into Assyria. In Assyria, Nimrod built the cities of Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir, Calah, and 12 Resen. (Resen is the city between Nineveh and Calah, the big city.)
13 Mizraim was the father of the people of Lud, Anam, Lehab, Naphtuh, 14 Pathrus, Casluh, and Caphtor. (The Philistine people came from Casluh.)
15 Canaan was the father of Sidon. Sidon was Canaan’s first son. Canaan was also the father of the Hittites, 16 Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites, 17 Hivites, Arkites, the Sinites, 18 Arvadites, Zemarites, and Hamathites.
The families of Canaan spread to different parts of the world. 19 The land where the Canaanites lived went from Sidon down along the coast to Gerar and from Gaza as far east as Sodom and Gomorrah and from Admah and Zeboiim as far north as Laish.
20 All these people were descendants of Ham. They are arranged by families, languages, countries, and nations.
21 Shem was Japheth’s older brother. One of Shem’s descendants was Eber, the father of all the Hebrew people. [ e ]
22 Shem’s sons were Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram.
23 Aram’s sons were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.
24 Arphaxad was the father of Shelah.
Shelah was the father of Eber.
25 Eber was the father of two sons. One son was named Peleg. [ f ] He was given this name because the earth was divided during his life. The other son was named Joktan.
26 Joktan was the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, 27 Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, 28 Obal, Abimael, Sheba, 29 Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these people were Joktan’s sons. 30 They lived in the area between Mesha and the hill country in the East. [ g ] Mesha was toward the country of Sephar.
31 These are the people from the family of Shem. They are arranged by families, languages, countries, and nations.
32 This is the list of the families from Noah’s sons. They are arranged according to their nations. From these families came all the people who spread across the earth after the flood.
10 Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood.
2 The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.
3 And the sons of Gomer; Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah.
4 And the sons of Javan; Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.
5 By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.
6 And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, and Phut, and Canaan.
7 And the sons of Cush; Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabtechah: and the sons of Raamah; Sheba, and Dedan.
8 And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth.
9 He was a mighty hunter before the Lord : wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the Lord .
10 And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.
11 Out of that land went forth Asshur, and builded Nineveh, and the city Rehoboth, and Calah,
12 And Resen between Nineveh and Calah: the same is a great city.
13 And Mizraim begat Ludim, and Anamim, and Lehabim, and Naphtuhim,
14 And Pathrusim, and Casluhim, (out of whom came Philistim,) and Caphtorim.
15 And Canaan begat Sidon his first born, and Heth,
16 And the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgasite,
17 And the Hivite, and the Arkite, and the Sinite,
18 And the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite: and afterward were the families of the Canaanites spread abroad.
19 And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon, as thou comest to Gerar, unto Gaza; as thou goest, unto Sodom, and Gomorrah, and Admah, and Zeboim, even unto Lasha.
20 These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their tongues, in their countries, and in their nations.
21 Unto Shem also, the father of all the children of Eber, the brother of Japheth the elder, even to him were children born.
22 The children of Shem; Elam, and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram.
23 And the children of Aram; Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Mash.
24 And Arphaxad begat Salah; and Salah begat Eber.
25 And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother's name was Joktan.
26 And Joktan begat Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, and Jerah,
27 And Hadoram, and Uzal, and Diklah,
28 And Obal, and Abimael, and Sheba,
29 And Ophir, and Havilah, and Jobab: all these were the sons of Joktan.
30 And their dwelling was from Mesha, as thou goest unto Sephar a mount of the east.
31 These are the sons of Shem, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, after their nations.
32 These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.
10 Now these are the records of the generations of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth; and sons were born to them after the flood.
2 ( A ) The sons of Japheth were ( B ) Gomer, Magog, ( C ) Madai, ( D ) Javan, Tubal, ( E ) Meshech, and Tiras. 3 The sons of Gomer were ( F ) Ashkenaz, [ a ] Riphath, and ( G ) Togarmah. 4 The sons of Javan were Elishah, ( H ) Tarshish, Kittim, and [ b ] Dodanim. 5 From these the people of the coastlands of the nations [ c ] were separated into their lands, every one according to his language, according to their families, into their nations.
6 ( I ) The sons of Ham were Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan. 7 The sons of Cush were ( J ) Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, ( K ) Raamah, and Sabteca; and the sons of Raamah were ( L ) Sheba and ( M ) Dedan. 8 Now Cush fathered Nimrod; he [ d ] became a mighty one on the earth. 9 He was a mighty hunter before the Lord ; therefore it is said, “Like Nimrod a mighty hunter before the Lord .” 10 And the beginning of his kingdom was [ e ] ( N ) Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of ( O ) Shinar. 11 From that land he went ( P ) to Assyria, and built Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir, Calah, 12 and Resen between Nineveh and Calah; that is the great city. 13 Mizraim fathered ( Q ) Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim, 14 ( R ) Pathrusim, Casluhim (from whom came the Philistines), and Caphtorim.
15 Canaan fathered ( S ) Sidon, his firstborn, and ( T ) Heth, 16 ( U ) the Jebusite, the Amorite, the Girgashite, 17 the Hivite, the Arkite, the Sinite, 18 the Arvadite, the Zemarite, and the Hamathite; and afterward the families of the Canaanite were spread abroad. 19 ( V ) The territory of the Canaanite [ f ] extended from Sidon [ g ] going toward Gerar, as far as Gaza; and [ h ] going toward ( W ) Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha. 20 These are the sons of Ham, according to their families, according to their languages, by their lands, and by their nations.
21 Also to Shem, the father of all the children of Eber, and the older brother of Japheth, children were born. 22 ( X ) The sons of Shem were ( Y ) Elam, Asshur, ( Z ) Arpachshad, ( AA ) Lud, and Aram. 23 The sons of Aram were ( AB ) Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash. 24 Arpachshad fathered ( AC ) Shelah; and Shelah fathered Eber. 25 ( AD ) Two sons were born to Eber; the name of the one was [ i ] Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan. 26 Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, 27 Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, 28 [ j ] Obal, Abimael, Sheba, 29 Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab; all of these were the sons of Joktan. 30 Now their [ k ] settlement [ l ] extended from Mesha [ m ] going toward Sephar, the hill country of the east. 31 These are the sons of Shem, according to their families, according to their languages, by their lands, and according to their nations.
32 These are the families of the sons of Noah, according to their descendants, by their nations; and ( AE ) out of these the nations were separated on the earth after the flood.

Cush, ( Q ) Egypt, Put ( R ) and Canaan. ( S )
7 The sons of Cush:

The sons of Raamah:
8 Cush was the father [ c ] of Nimrod, ( Y ) who became a mighty warrior on the earth. 9 He was a mighty ( Z ) hunter ( AA ) before the Lord ; that is why it is said, “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the Lord .” 10 The first centers of his kingdom were Babylon, ( AB ) Uruk, ( AC ) Akkad and Kalneh, ( AD ) in [ d ] Shinar. [ e ] ( AE ) 11 From that land he went to Assyria, ( AF ) where he built Nineveh, ( AG ) Rehoboth Ir, [ f ] Calah 12 and Resen, which is between Nineveh and Calah—which is the great city.
13 Egypt was the father of

24 Arphaxad was the father of [ j ] Shelah,
and Shelah the father of Eber. ( BG )
25 Two sons were born to Eber:
One was named Peleg, [ k ] because in his time the earth was divided; his brother was named Joktan.
26 Joktan was the father of
Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, 27 Hadoram, Uzal, ( BH ) Diklah, 28 Obal, Abimael, Sheba, ( BI ) 29 Ophir, ( BJ ) Havilah and Jobab. All these were sons of Joktan.
