- Ezekiel Chapter 35
35 The Lord gave this message to me: 2 ‘Son of man, look towards Mount Seir. [ a ] Then speak my message to warn it. 3 Say to it, “This is what the Almighty Lord says: Listen! I am your enemy, Mount Seir. I will attack you, so that you become like a desert. 4 I will destroy your towns. They will become heaps of stones where nobody lives. Then you will know that I am the Lord .
5 You have always hated Israel's people. Because of that, you did not help them when their enemy attacked them and killed them. They were in great trouble when I punished them for their sins. [ b ] 6 So I, the Almighty Lord , promise you this, as surely as I live. I will allow your enemies to kill you. If you run away from them, they will chase you and kill you. You were happy to see an enemy kill my people, so an enemy will kill you also. 7 I will make Mount Seir become like a desert where nobody lives. I will destroy anyone who travels through that place. 8 Dead bodies will lie all over your mountains. The bodies of men who have died in battle will lie on your hills and in your valleys. 9 I will make you a desert for ever and nobody will live in your towns. Then you will know that I am the Lord .
10 You said, ‘We will take these two nations for ourselves. Israel and Judah will belong to us.’ You said that when I, the Lord , was there with them. 11 So I promise that I will punish you, as surely as I live. That is what the Almighty Lord says. Because you were angry and jealous, you hated my people, So I will punish you as you deserve. When I judge you, my people will know who I am. 12 Then you will know that I, the Lord , have heard you. You have insulted the mountains of Israel. You said, ‘Those mountains have become a desert. So we can take them for ourselves.’ 13 You said many proud things to insult me. You thought that you were greater than me. I heard everything that you said!
14 So this is what the Almighty Lord says: I will make your land become a desert. All the people in the world will be very happy when they see this. 15 You were happy when you saw me punish Israel's people so that their land became a desert. Because you were happy, I will punish you as you deserve. Mount Seir and all the land of Edom will become an empty desert. Then Edom's people will know that I am the Lord .” ’
35 The word of the Lord came to me. He said, 2 “Son of man, [ a ] look toward Mount Seir and speak against it for me. 3 Say to it, ‘This is what the Lord God says:
“‘I am against you, Mount Seir!
I will punish you and make you an empty wasteland.
4 I will destroy your cities,
and you will become empty.
Then you will know that I am the Lord .
5 “‘Why? Because you have always been against my people. You used your sword against Israel at the time of their trouble, at the time of their final punishment.’” 6 So the Lord God says, “But I promise by my own life that I will let death have you. Death will chase you. You did not hate killing people, so death will chase you. 7 I will make Mount Seir an empty ruin. I will kill everyone who enters or leaves that city. 8 I will cover its mountains with those who are killed. There will be dead bodies all over your hills, in your valleys, and in all your ravines. 9 I will make you empty forever. No one will live in your cities. Then you will know that I am the Lord .”
10 You said, “These two nations and countries, Israel and Judah, will be mine. We will take them for our own.”
But the Lord is there! 11 And the Lord God says, “You were jealous of my people. You were angry and hateful to them. So by my life, I swear that I will punish you the same way you hurt them! I will punish you and let my people know that I am with them. 12 And then you, too, will know that I am the Lord .
“I have heard you making fun of Israel’s hill country. You said, ‘It is in ruins, just waiting for us to swallow it up.’ 13 Your proud boasting is really against me. Time after time you have insulted me, and I have heard every word.”
14 This is what the Lord God says: “All the earth will be happy when I destroy you. 15 You were happy when the country of Israel was destroyed. I will treat you the same way. Mount Seir and the whole country of Edom will be destroyed. Then you will know that I am the Lord .”
35 Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
2 Son of man, set thy face against mount Seir, and prophesy against it,
3 And say unto it, Thus saith the Lord God ; Behold, O mount Seir, I am against thee, and I will stretch out mine hand against thee, and I will make thee most desolate.
4 I will lay thy cities waste, and thou shalt be desolate, and thou shalt know that I am the Lord .
5 Because thou hast had a perpetual hatred, and hast shed the blood of the children of Israel by the force of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time that their iniquity had an end:
6 Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord God , I will prepare thee unto blood, and blood shall pursue thee: sith thou hast not hated blood, even blood shall pursue thee.
7 Thus will I make mount Seir most desolate, and cut off from it him that passeth out and him that returneth.
8 And I will fill his mountains with his slain men: in thy hills, and in thy valleys, and in all thy rivers, shall they fall that are slain with the sword.
9 I will make thee perpetual desolations, and thy cities shall not return: and ye shall know that I am the Lord .
10 Because thou hast said, These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess it; whereas the Lord was there:
11 Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord God , I will even do according to thine anger, and according to thine envy which thou hast used out of thy hatred against them; and I will make myself known among them, when I have judged thee.
12 And thou shalt know that I am the Lord , and that I have heard all thy blasphemies which thou hast spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, They are laid desolate, they are given us to consume.
13 Thus with your mouth ye have boasted against me, and have multiplied your words against me: I have heard them.
14 Thus saith the Lord God ; When the whole earth rejoiceth, I will make thee desolate.
15 As thou didst rejoice at the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so will I do unto thee: thou shalt be desolate, O mount Seir, and all Idumea, even all of it: and they shall know that I am the Lord .
35 Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 2 “Son of man, set your face against ( A ) Mount Seir, and prophesy against it 3 and say to it, ‘This is what the Lord [ a ] God says:
“Behold, I am against you, Mount Seir,
And I will ( B ) reach out with My hand against you
And make you a ( C ) desolation and a waste.
4 I will ( D ) turn your cities to ruins,
And you will become a desolation.
Then you will know that I am the Lord .
5 Since you have had everlasting ( E ) hostility and have turned over the sons of Israel to the power of the sword at the time of their disaster, at the time of the [ b ] ( F ) punishment of the end, 6 therefore as I live,” declares the Lord God , “I will certainly [ c ] doom you to ( G ) bloodshed, and bloodshed will pursue you; since you have not hated bloodshed, therefore bloodshed will pursue you. 7 I will make Mount Seir a waste and a desolation and I will eliminate from it one who passes through and returns. 8 I will ( H ) fill its mountains with its slain; those killed by the sword will fall on your hills, in your valleys, and in all your ravines. 9 I will make you a permanent ( I ) desolation, and your cities will not be inhabited. Then you will know that I am the Lord .
10 “Since you have ( J ) said, ‘These two nations and these two lands will be mine, and we will possess [ d ] them,’ although the ( K ) Lord was there, 11 therefore as I live,” declares the Lord God , “I will deal with you ( L ) according to your anger and according to your envy which you displayed because of your hatred for them; so I will ( M ) make Myself known among them when I judge you. 12 Then you will know [ e ] that I, the Lord , have heard all your insults which you have spoken against the mountains of Israel saying, ‘They are desolate; they have been ( N ) given to us as food.’ 13 And you have [ f ] ( O ) spoken arrogantly against Me and have multiplied your words against Me; ( P ) I Myself have heard it .” 14 This is what the Lord God says: “As all the ( Q ) earth rejoices, I will make you a desolation. 15 As you ( R ) rejoiced over the inheritance of the house of Israel because it was desolate, ( S ) so I will do to you. You will be a ( T ) desolation, Mount Seir, and all Edom, all of it. Then they will know that I am the Lord .”’
35 The word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Son of man, set your face against Mount Seir; ( A ) prophesy against it 3 and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, Mount Seir, and I will stretch out my hand ( B ) against you and make you a desolate waste. ( C ) 4 I will turn your towns into ruins ( D ) and you will be desolate. Then you will know that I am the Lord . ( E )
5 “‘Because you harbored an ancient hostility and delivered the Israelites over to the sword ( F ) at the time of their calamity, ( G ) the time their punishment reached its climax, ( H ) 6 therefore as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord , I will give you over to bloodshed ( I ) and it will pursue you. ( J ) Since you did not hate bloodshed, bloodshed will pursue you. 7 I will make Mount Seir a desolate waste ( K ) and cut off from it all who come and go. ( L ) 8 I will fill your mountains with the slain; those killed by the sword will fall on your hills and in your valleys and in all your ravines. ( M ) 9 I will make you desolate forever; ( N ) your towns will not be inhabited. Then you will know that I am the Lord . ( O )
10 “‘Because you have said, “These two nations and countries will be ours and we will take possession ( P ) of them,” even though I the Lord was there, 11 therefore as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord , I will treat you in accordance with the anger ( Q ) and jealousy you showed in your hatred of them and I will make myself known among them when I judge you. ( R ) 12 Then you will know that I the Lord have heard all the contemptible things you have said against the mountains of Israel. You said, “They have been laid waste and have been given over to us to devour. ( S ) ” 13 You boasted ( T ) against me and spoke against me without restraint, and I heard it. ( U ) 14 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: While the whole earth rejoices, I will make you desolate. ( V ) 15 Because you rejoiced ( W ) when the inheritance of Israel became desolate, that is how I will treat you. You will be desolate, Mount Seir, ( X ) you and all of Edom. ( Y ) Then they will know that I am the Lord .’”
