- Exodus Chapter 27
27 Use acacia wood to make an altar. It must be square, 2.2 metres long and 2.2 metres wide. It must be 1.3 metres high. 2 Make four horns, one at each corner of the altar. The horns and the altar itself must be one piece of work. Then cover the whole altar with bronze. 3 Make all the tools for the altar with bronze. Make pots to remove the ashes, spades and bowls. Make forks for the meat. Make dishes to carry the fire. 4 Use bronze to make a square net and rings at each corner. 5 Fix this net inside the altar, in the middle, between the top of the altar and the ground. [ a ] 6 Use acacia wood to make poles for the altar. Cover them with bronze. 7 You must put the poles through the rings when you carry the altar. There will be a pole on each of two sides of the altar. 8 Use boards to make the altar, so that it is empty inside. You must make it in the way that the Lord showed you on the mountain.
9 Make a yard around the tent of the tabernacle. The south side must be 45 metres long. It will have curtains that are made of good linen. 10 Make 20 poles and 20 bronze bases to hold the poles. Use silver to make hooks and sticks to hold the curtains. 11 The north side of the yard must also be 45 metres long. It will also have 20 poles with their bronze bases, as well as their silver hooks and sticks.
12 The west end of the yard must be 23 metres long. Make curtains for it, with ten poles and their bronze bases. 13 The entrance to the yard is at its east end. That end must also be 23 metres long. 14-15 There will be 7 metres of curtain on each side of the entrance. There will be three poles with their bases to hold the curtains on each side.
16 Make a curtain 9 metres wide for the entrance to the yard. Make it out of blue, purple and red material, as well as good linen. Choose a worker who can use special skills to make the curtain look beautiful. Make four poles and their bases to hold the curtain at the entrance.
17 All the poles around the yard must have bronze bases. They will also have silver hooks and sticks to hold the curtains. 18 The yard will be 45 metres long and 23 metres wide. Use good linen to make the curtains. They must be 2¼ metres high on the bronze bases.
19 Use bronze to make all the tools that you will use in the tabernacle. Also use bronze to make the pegs that fix the tent of the tabernacle to the ground. And make bronze pegs to fix the curtain around the yard to the ground.
20 Command the Israelites to bring you pure oil from fresh olives. You will use this oil to make the lamps give light all the time. 21 Aaron and his sons must make sure that the lamps always give light from evening until morning. The lampstand will be in the Tent of Meeting, outside the curtain that hangs in front of the Covenant Box. [ b ] The lamps must always give light there, where the Lord is. This will always be a rule for the Israelites, now and in the future.
27 “Use acacia wood and build an altar. The altar should be square. It must be 5 cubits [ a ] long, 5 cubits wide, and 3 cubits [ b ] high. 2 Make a horn for each of the four corners of the altar. Join each horn to its corner so that everything is one piece. Then cover the altar with bronze.
3 “Use bronze to make all the tools and dishes that will be used on the altar. Make pots, shovels, bowls, forks, and pans. These will be used for cleaning ashes from the altar. 4 Make a grating for the altar. This grating will be shaped like a net. And make a bronze ring at each of the four corners of the grating. 5 Put the grating under the ledge at the bottom of the altar. The grating will go halfway up into the altar from below.
6 “Use acacia wood to make poles for the altar, and cover them with bronze. 7 Put the poles through the rings on both sides of the altar. Use these poles for carrying the altar. 8 Make the altar like an empty box with the sides made from boards. Make the altar just as I showed you on the mountain.
9 “Make a courtyard for the Holy Tent. The south side should have a wall of curtains 100 cubits [ c ] long. These curtains must be made from fine linen. 10 Use 20 posts and 20 bronze bases under the posts. The hooks for the posts and the curtain rods [ d ] should be made from silver. 11 The north side must also have a wall of curtains 100 cubits long. It must have 20 posts and 20 bronze bases. The hooks for the posts and the curtain rods must be made from silver.
12 “On the west side of the courtyard there must be a wall of curtains 50 cubits [ e ] long. There must be ten posts and ten bases. 13 The east side of the courtyard must also be 50 cubits long. 14 Here at the entrance to the courtyard, one side must have curtains 15 cubits [ f ] long. There must be three posts and three bases on this side. 15 The other side of the entrance must also have curtains 15 cubits long. There must be three posts and three bases on that side.
16 “Make a curtain 20 cubits [ g ] long to cover the entrance to the courtyard. Make that curtain from fine linen and blue, purple, and red yarn. Weave designs into that curtain. There must be four posts and four bases for that curtain. 17 All the posts around the courtyard must be joined with silver curtain rods. The hooks on the posts must be made from silver, and the bases for the posts must be bronze. 18 The courtyard should be 100 cubits long and 50 cubits wide. The wall of curtains around the courtyard should be 5 cubits high. The curtains must be made from fine linen. The bases under the posts must be bronze. 19 All the tools, tent pegs, and other things used in the Holy Tent must be made from bronze. And all the pegs for the curtains around the courtyard must be made from bronze.
20 “Command the Israelites to bring their best olive oil for the lamp that must be lit each evening. 21 This lamp is in the first room of the Meeting Tent, outside the curtain for the room where the Agreement is. Aaron and his sons will make sure this lamp is burning before the Lord every day from evening until morning. The Israelites and their descendants must obey this law forever.
27 And thou shalt make an altar of shittim wood, five cubits long, and five cubits broad; the altar shall be foursquare: and the height thereof shall be three cubits.
2 And thou shalt make the horns of it upon the four corners thereof: his horns shall be of the same: and thou shalt overlay it with brass.
3 And thou shalt make his pans to receive his ashes, and his shovels, and his basons, and his fleshhooks, and his firepans: all the vessels thereof thou shalt make of brass.
4 And thou shalt make for it a grate of network of brass; and upon the net shalt thou make four brasen rings in the four corners thereof.
5 And thou shalt put it under the compass of the altar beneath, that the net may be even to the midst of the altar.
6 And thou shalt make staves for the altar, staves of shittim wood, and overlay them with brass.
7 And the staves shall be put into the rings, and the staves shall be upon the two sides of the altar, to bear it.
8 Hollow with boards shalt thou make it: as it was shewed thee in the mount, so shall they make it.
9 And thou shalt make the court of the tabernacle: for the south side southward there shall be hangings for the court of fine twined linen of an hundred cubits long for one side:
10 And the twenty pillars thereof and their twenty sockets shall be of brass; the hooks of the pillars and their fillets shall be of silver.
11 And likewise for the north side in length there shall be hangings of an hundred cubits long, and his twenty pillars and their twenty sockets of brass; the hooks of the pillars and their fillets of silver.
12 And for the breadth of the court on the west side shall be hangings of fifty cubits: their pillars ten, and their sockets ten.
13 And the breadth of the court on the east side eastward shall be fifty cubits.
14 The hangings of one side of the gate shall be fifteen cubits: their pillars three, and their sockets three.
15 And on the other side shall be hangings fifteen cubits: their pillars three, and their sockets three.
16 And for the gate of the court shall be an hanging of twenty cubits, of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen, wrought with needlework: and their pillars shall be four, and their sockets four.
17 All the pillars round about the court shall be filleted with silver; their hooks shall be of silver, and their sockets of brass.
18 The length of the court shall be an hundred cubits, and the breadth fifty every where, and the height five cubits of fine twined linen, and their sockets of brass.
19 All the vessels of the tabernacle in all the service thereof, and all the pins thereof, and all the pins of the court, shall be of brass.
20 And thou shalt command the children of Israel, that they bring thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamp to burn always.
21 In the tabernacle of the congregation without the vail, which is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons shall order it from evening to morning before the Lord : it shall be a statute for ever unto their generations on the behalf of the children of Israel.
27 “Now you shall make ( A ) the altar of acacia wood, [ a ] five cubits long and five cubits wide; the altar shall be square, and its height shall be [ b ] three cubits. 2 You shall make ( B ) its horns on its four corners; its horns shall be of one piece with it, and you shall overlay it with [ c ] bronze. 3 And you shall make its pails for removing its ashes, and its shovels, its basins, its forks, and its firepans; you shall make all its utensils of bronze. 4 You shall also make for it a grating, a netting of bronze, and on the netting you shall make four bronze rings [ d ] at its four corners. 5 And you shall put it under the ledge of the altar, so that the netting will reach halfway up the altar. 6 You shall also make carrying poles for the altar, poles of acacia wood and overlay them with bronze. 7 Its poles shall be inserted into the rings, so that the poles will be on the two sides of the altar ( C ) when it is carried. 8 You shall make it hollow with planks; ( D ) as it was shown to you on the mountain, so they shall make it .
9 “Now you shall make ( E ) the courtyard of the [ e ] tabernacle. [ f ] On the south side there shall be hangings for the courtyard of fine twisted linen, a [ g ] hundred cubits long for one side; 10 and its pillars shall be twenty, with their twenty bases of bronze; the hooks of the pillars and their [ h ] bands shall be of silver. 11 Likewise for the north side in length there shall be hangings a [ i ] hundred cubits long, and its twenty pillars with their twenty bases of bronze; the hooks of the pillars and their bands shall be of silver. 12 For the width of the courtyard on the west side shall be hangings of [ j ] fifty cubits, with their ten pillars and their ten bases. 13 The width of the courtyard on the [ k ] east side shall be fifty cubits. 14 The hangings for the one [ l ] side of the gate shall be [ m ] fifteen cubits, with their three pillars and their three bases. 15 And for the [ n ] other [ o ] side there shall be hangings of fifteen cubits, with their three pillars and their three bases. 16 And for the gate of the courtyard there shall be a curtain of [ p ] twenty cubits, of [ q ] violet, purple, and scarlet material and fine twisted linen, the work of a [ r ] weaver, with their four pillars and their four bases. 17 All the pillars around the courtyard shall be joined together with silver, with their hooks of silver and their bases of bronze. 18 The length of the courtyard shall be a [ s ] hundred cubits, and the width fifty throughout, and the height five cubits of fine twisted linen, and their bases of bronze. 19 All the utensils of the tabernacle used in all its service, and all its pegs, and all the pegs of the courtyard, shall be of bronze.
20 “And you shall command the sons of Israel that they bring you ( F ) clear oil of beaten olives for the [ t ] light, to make a lamp [ u ] burn continually. 21 In the ( G ) tent of meeting, outside ( H ) the veil which is before the testimony, ( I ) Aaron and his sons shall keep it in order from evening to morning before the Lord ; it shall be a permanent ( J ) statute throughout their generations [ v ] for the sons of Israel.
27 “Build an altar ( B ) of acacia wood, three cubits [ a ] high; it is to be square, five cubits long and five cubits wide. [ b ] 2 Make a horn ( C ) at each of the four corners, so that the horns and the altar are of one piece, and overlay the altar with bronze. 3 Make all its utensils of bronze—its pots to remove the ashes, and its shovels, sprinkling bowls, ( D ) meat forks and firepans. ( E ) 4 Make a grating for it, a bronze network, and make a bronze ring at each of the four corners of the network. 5 Put it under the ledge of the altar so that it is halfway up the altar. 6 Make poles of acacia wood for the altar and overlay them with bronze. ( F ) 7 The poles are to be inserted into the rings so they will be on two sides of the altar when it is carried. ( G ) 8 Make the altar hollow, out of boards. It is to be made just as you were shown ( H ) on the mountain.
9 “Make a courtyard ( J ) for the tabernacle. The south side shall be a hundred cubits [ c ] long and is to have curtains of finely twisted linen, 10 with twenty posts and twenty bronze bases and with silver hooks and bands on the posts. 11 The north side shall also be a hundred cubits long and is to have curtains, with twenty posts and twenty bronze bases and with silver hooks and bands on the posts.
12 “The west end of the courtyard shall be fifty cubits [ d ] wide and have curtains, with ten posts and ten bases. 13 On the east end, toward the sunrise, the courtyard shall also be fifty cubits wide. 14 Curtains fifteen cubits [ e ] long are to be on one side of the entrance, with three posts and three bases, 15 and curtains fifteen cubits long are to be on the other side, with three posts and three bases.
16 “For the entrance to the courtyard, provide a curtain ( K ) twenty cubits [ f ] long, of blue, purple and scarlet yarn and finely twisted linen—the work of an embroiderer ( L ) —with four posts and four bases. 17 All the posts around the courtyard are to have silver bands and hooks, and bronze bases. 18 The courtyard shall be a hundred cubits long and fifty cubits wide, [ g ] with curtains of finely twisted linen five cubits [ h ] high, and with bronze bases. 19 All the other articles used in the service of the tabernacle, whatever their function, including all the tent pegs for it and those for the courtyard, are to be of bronze.
20 “Command the Israelites to bring you clear oil ( N ) of pressed olives for the light so that the lamps may be kept burning. 21 In the tent of meeting, ( O ) outside the curtain that shields the ark of the covenant law, ( P ) Aaron and his sons are to keep the lamps ( Q ) burning before the Lord from evening till morning. This is to be a lasting ordinance ( R ) among the Israelites for the generations to come.
