- Exodus Chapter 24
24 Then God said to Moses, ‘Come up to me, the Lord . Come with Aaron, Nadab, Abihu and 70 of the leaders of Israel. Worship me, but do not come near. 2 Only Moses can come near to me, but not the others. The people must not come up the mountain with him.’
3 Moses went and he told the people all the Lord 's commands and his teaching. The people answered together, ‘We will do everything that the Lord has told us.’ 4 Then Moses wrote down everything that the Lord had said.
Early the next morning, Moses built an altar at the bottom of the mountain. Then he put up 12 stone pillars. Each pillar stood there for one of Israel's 12 tribes. 5 Moses sent young Israelite men to burn animals there, as offerings to the Lord . They also killed young bulls as friendship offerings to the Lord .
6 Moses took half of the blood of these animals and he put it into some bowls. He splashed the other half of the blood over the altar. 7 Then he took the Book of God's Covenant and he read it to the people. They replied, ‘We will do everything that the Lord has told us. We will obey his commands.’
8 Then Moses used the blood in the bowls to splash on the people. He said, ‘This blood shows that you accept the covenant that the Lord has made with you. You agree to obey the rules of his covenant.’
9 Then Moses and Aaron, Nadab, Abihu and the 70 Israelite leaders went up the mountain. 10 They saw the God of Israel there. Under his feet was something like a jewel called sapphire. It was as bright as a clear blue sky. 11 God did not hurt those Israelite leaders. They saw God. They ate a meal and they drank together.
12 The Lord said to Moses, ‘Come up to me on the mountain. Stay here. I will give you the flat stones with my Law on them. I have written on them my Law and my commands, so that you can teach them to the people.’
13 So Moses went up the mountain of God. His servant Joshua went with him. 14 Moses said to the leaders, ‘Wait here for us. We will come back to you. Aaron and Hur are here with you. If you have any arguments, they can decide who is right.’
15 When Moses went up the mountain, the cloud covered it. 16 The Lord 's bright glory appeared on Sinai mountain. The cloud covered the mountain for six days. On the seventh day, the Lord called out to Moses from inside the cloud. 17 The people could see the Lord 's bright glory. To them, it looked like a fire that was burning the top of the mountain. 18 Moses went up the mountain and he went into the cloud. He stayed on the mountain for 40 days and 40 nights.
24 The Lord told Moses, “You, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and the 70 elders of Israel must come up the mountain and worship me from a distance. 2 Then only Moses will come close to the Lord . The other men must not come close, and the rest of the people must not even come up the mountain.”
3 Moses told the people all the rules and commands from the Lord . Then all the people said, “We will obey all the commands that the Lord has spoken.”
4 So Moses wrote down all the commands of the Lord . The next morning he got up and built an altar near the bottom of the mountain. And he set up twelve stones—one for each of the twelve tribes of Israel. 5 Then Moses sent young men of Israel to offer sacrifices. These men offered bulls to the Lord as burnt offerings and fellowship offerings.
6 Moses saved the blood from these animals. He put half of the blood in bowls, and he poured the other half of the blood on the altar. [ a ]
7 Moses read the scroll with the special agreement written on it. He read the agreement so that all the people could hear him. And the people said, “We have heard the laws that the Lord has given us. And we agree to obey them.”
8 Then Moses held the bowls full of the blood from the sacrifices. He threw that blood on the people. He said, “This blood shows that the Lord has made a special agreement with you. The laws God gave you explain the agreement.”
9 Then Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and the 70 elders of Israel went up the mountain. 10 On the mountain, these men saw the God of Israel. He was standing on something that looked like blue sapphires, as clear as the sky! 11 All the leaders of Israel saw God, but God did not destroy them. [ b ] They all ate and drank together.
12 The Lord said to Moses, “Come to me on the mountain. I have written my teachings and laws on two stone tablets. These teachings and laws are for the people. I will give these stone tablets to you.”
13 So Moses and his helper, Joshua, went up the mountain of God. 14 Moses said to the elders, “Wait here for us until we come back to you. While I am gone, Aaron and Hur will rule over you. Go to them if anyone has a problem.”
15 Then Moses went up the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. 16 The Glory of the Lord came down on Mount Sinai. The cloud covered the mountain for six days. On the seventh day, the Lord spoke to Moses from the cloud. 17 The Israelites could see the Glory of the Lord . It was like a fire burning on top of the mountain.
18 Then Moses went higher up the mountain into the cloud. He was on the mountain for 40 days and 40 nights.
24 And he said unto Moses, Come up unto the Lord , thou, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel; and worship ye afar off.
2 And Moses alone shall come near the Lord : but they shall not come nigh; neither shall the people go up with him.
3 And Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord , and all the judgments: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the Lord hath said will we do.
4 And Moses wrote all the words of the Lord , and rose up early in the morning, and builded an altar under the hill, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel.
5 And he sent young men of the children of Israel, which offered burnt offerings, and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen unto the Lord .
6 And Moses took half of the blood, and put it in basons; and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar.
7 And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the Lord hath said will we do, and be obedient.
8 And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the Lord hath made with you concerning all these words.
9 Then went up Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel:
10 And they saw the God of Israel: and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness.
11 And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand: also they saw God, and did eat and drink.
12 And the Lord said unto Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give thee tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that thou mayest teach them.
13 And Moses rose up, and his minister Joshua: and Moses went up into the mount of God.
14 And he said unto the elders, Tarry ye here for us, until we come again unto you: and, behold, Aaron and Hur are with you: if any man have any matters to do, let him come unto them.
15 And Moses went up into the mount, and a cloud covered the mount.
16 And the glory of the Lord abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days: and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud.
17 And the sight of the glory of the Lord was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel.
18 And Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and gat him up into the mount: and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights.
24 Then He said to Moses, “ ( A ) Come up to the Lord , you and Aaron, ( B ) Nadab and Abihu, and ( C ) seventy of the elders of Israel, and you shall worship at a distance. 2 Moses alone, however, shall approach the Lord , but they shall not approach, nor shall the people come up with him.”
3 Then Moses came and reported to the people all the words of the Lord and all the [ a ] ordinances; and all the people answered with one voice and said, “ ( D ) All the words which the Lord has spoken we will do!” 4 And ( E ) Moses wrote down all the words of the Lord . Then he got up early in the morning, and built an ( F ) altar [ b ] at the foot of the mountain with twelve memorial stones for the twelve tribes of Israel. 5 And he sent young men of the sons of Israel, ( G ) and they offered burnt offerings and sacrificed bulls as peace offerings to the Lord . 6 ( H ) Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and the other half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar. 7 Then he took ( I ) the Book of the Covenant and read it [ c ] as the people listened; and they said, “ ( J ) All that the Lord has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient!” 8 So ( K ) Moses took the blood and sprinkled it on the people, and said, “Behold ( L ) the blood of the covenant, which the Lord has [ d ] made with you [ e ] in accordance with all these words.”
9 Then Moses went up [ f ] with Aaron, ( M ) Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, 10 and ( N ) they saw the God of Israel; and under His feet [ g ] ( O ) there appeared to be a pavement of sapphire, [ h ] as clear as the sky itself. 11 Yet He did not reach out with His hand against the nobles of the sons of Israel; and ( P ) they saw God, and they ate and drank.
12 Now the Lord said to Moses, “Come up to Me on the mountain and [ i ] stay there, and ( Q ) I will give you the stone tablets [ j ] with the Law and the [ k ] commandments which I have written for their instruction.” 13 So Moses got up [ l ] along with ( R ) Joshua his [ m ] servant, and Moses went up to ( S ) the mountain of God. 14 But to the elders he said, “ ( T ) Wait here for us until we return to you. And behold, ( U ) Aaron and Hur are with you; whoever [ n ] has a legal matter, have him approach them.” 15 Then Moses went up to the mountain, and ( V ) the cloud covered the mountain. 16 ( W ) The glory of the Lord [ o ] settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days; and on the seventh day He ( X ) called to Moses from the midst of the cloud. 17 ( Y ) And to the eyes of the sons of Israel, the appearance of the glory of the Lord was like a ( Z ) consuming fire on the mountain top. 18 Then Moses entered the midst of the cloud [ p ] as he went up to the mountain; and Moses was on the mountain for ( AA ) forty days and forty nights.
24 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Come up to the Lord , you and Aaron, ( A ) Nadab and Abihu, ( B ) and seventy of the elders ( C ) of Israel. You are to worship at a distance, 2 but Moses alone is to approach ( D ) the Lord ; the others must not come near. And the people may not come up with him.”
3 When Moses went and told the people all the Lord ’s words and laws, ( E ) they responded with one voice, “Everything the Lord has said we will do.” ( F ) 4 Moses then wrote ( G ) down everything the Lord had said.
He got up early the next morning and built an altar ( H ) at the foot of the mountain and set up twelve stone pillars ( I ) representing the twelve tribes of Israel. 5 Then he sent young Israelite men, and they offered burnt offerings ( J ) and sacrificed young bulls as fellowship offerings ( K ) to the Lord . 6 Moses ( L ) took half of the blood ( M ) and put it in bowls, and the other half he splashed ( N ) against the altar. 7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant ( O ) and read it to the people. They responded, “We will do everything the Lord has said; we will obey.” ( P )
8 Moses then took the blood, sprinkled it on the people ( Q ) and said, “This is the blood of the covenant ( R ) that the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words.”
9 Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and the seventy elders ( S ) of Israel went up 10 and saw ( T ) the God of Israel. Under his feet was something like a pavement made of lapis lazuli, ( U ) as bright blue as the sky. ( V ) 11 But God did not raise his hand against these leaders of the Israelites; they saw ( W ) God, and they ate and drank. ( X )
12 The Lord said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone ( Y ) with the law and commandments I have written for their instruction.”
13 Then Moses set out with Joshua ( Z ) his aide, and Moses went up on the mountain ( AA ) of God. 14 He said to the elders, “Wait here for us until we come back to you. Aaron and Hur ( AB ) are with you, and anyone involved in a dispute ( AC ) can go to them.”
15 When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud ( AD ) covered it, 16 and the glory ( AE ) of the Lord settled on Mount Sinai. ( AF ) For six days the cloud covered the mountain, and on the seventh day the Lord called to Moses from within the cloud. ( AG ) 17 To the Israelites the glory of the Lord looked like a consuming fire ( AH ) on top of the mountain. 18 Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty ( AI ) days and forty nights. ( AJ )
