Moses dies on Mount Nebo

34 Then Moses went up from Moab's desert land. He climbed up Mount Nebo to the top of Pisgah mountain. Jericho city was on the other side of the Jordan River. The Lord showed him the whole land, from the region of Gilead to Dan in the north. 2 He saw all the land that would belong to Naphtali, Ephraim, Manasseh and Judah, as far as the Mediterranean Sea in the west. 3 He saw the Negev desert in the south. He saw the valley that goes from Jericho as far as Zoar. Jericho is called ‘The city of palm trees’.

4 Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘This is the land that I promised to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. I told them that I would give it to their descendants. Now I have let you see the land, but you will not go across the river into it.’

5 So Moses, the Lord 's servant, died there in Moab. The Lord had said that this would happen. 6 The Lord buried Moses in a valley in Moab, near the town of Beth-Peor. But even today, no one knows the place where God buried him.

7 Moses was 120 years old when he died. But he could still see well. His body was still strong. 8 The Israelites wept for 30 days because of Moses' death. They wept in Moab's desert land until the time for them to be sad came to an end.

9 Moses had already chosen Nun's son, Joshua, to take his place as the leader of the Israelites. So the Lord had filled Joshua with wisdom. The Israelites listened to Joshua. They obeyed the commands that the Lord had given to Moses.

10 There has never been another prophet in Israel like Moses. The Lord spoke to him, face to face. 11 Moses did the miracles that the Lord had sent him to do in Egypt. Those miracles showed the Lord 's power to Pharaoh and his officers, and to all the people in his country. 12 No other prophet has shown such great power and authority for all the Israelites to see.

Moses Dies

34 Moses climbed Mount Nebo. Moses went from the Jordan Valley in Moab to the top of Mount Pisgah. This was across the Jordan River from Jericho. The Lord showed Moses all the land from Gilead to Dan. 2 He showed him all the land of Naphtali, Ephraim, and Manasseh. He showed him all the land of Judah as far as the Mediterranean Sea. 3 He showed Moses the Negev and the valley that goes from Zoar to Jericho, the city of palm trees. 4 The Lord said to Moses, “This is the land I promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I said to them, ‘I will give this land to your descendants. I have let you see the land, but you cannot go there.’”

5 Then Moses, the Lord ’s servant, died there in the land of Moab. The Lord had told Moses this would happen. 6 He buried Moses in Moab. This was in the valley across from Beth Peor. But even today, no one knows exactly where Moses’ grave is. 7 Moses was 120 years old when he died. He was as strong as ever, and his eyes were still good. 8 The Israelites cried for Moses for 30 days. They stayed in the Jordan Valley in Moab until the time of sadness was finished.

Joshua Becomes the New Leader

9 Moses had put his hands on Joshua and appointed him to be the new leader. Then Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom. So the Israelites began to obey Joshua, and they did what the Lord had commanded Moses.

10 Israel never had another prophet like Moses: The Lord knew Moses face to face. 11 The Lord sent Moses to do powerful miracles in the land of Egypt. Pharaoh, all his officers, and all the people in Egypt saw those miracles. 12 No other prophet ever did as many powerful and amazing things as Moses did for the Israelites to see.

34 And Moses went up from the plains of Moab unto the mountain of Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that is over against Jericho. And the Lord shewed him all the land of Gilead, unto Dan,

2 And all Naphtali, and the land of Ephraim, and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah, unto the utmost sea,

3 And the south, and the plain of the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, unto Zoar.

4 And the Lord said unto him, This is the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither.

5 So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord .

6 And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day.

7 And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated.

8 And the children of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days: so the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended.

9 And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the Lord commanded Moses.

10 And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face,

11 In all the signs and the wonders, which the Lord sent him to do in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land,

12 And in all that mighty hand, and in all the great terror which Moses shewed in the sight of all Israel.

The Death of Moses

34 ( A ) Now Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is opposite Jericho. And the Lord ( B ) showed him all the land, Gilead as far as Dan, 2 and all Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah as far as the [ a ] ( C ) western sea, 3 and the [ b ] Negev and the territory in the Valley of Jericho, ( D ) the city of palm trees, as far as Zoar. 4 Then the Lord said to him, “This is the land which ( E ) I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your [ c ] descendants’; I have let you see it with your eyes, but you will not go over there.” 5 So Moses ( F ) the servant of the Lord ( G ) died there in the land of Moab, in accordance with the [ d ] word of the Lord . 6 And He buried him in the valley in the land of Moab, ( H ) opposite Beth-peor; but ( I ) no one knows his burial place to this day. 7 Although Moses was ( J ) 120 years old when he died, ( K ) his eyesight was not dim, nor had his vigor left him . 8 So the sons of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab for thirty days; then the days of weeping and mourning for Moses came to an end.

9 Now Joshua the son of Nun was ( L ) filled with the spirit of wisdom, because Moses had laid his hands on him; and the sons of Israel listened to him and did as the Lord had commanded Moses. 10 Since that time ( M ) no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom ( N ) the Lord knew face to face, 11 for all the signs and wonders which the Lord sent him to perform in the land of Egypt against Pharaoh, all his servants, and all his land— 12 and for all the mighty [ e ] power and all the great terror which Moses performed in the sight of all Israel.

The Death of Moses

34 Then Moses climbed Mount Nebo ( A ) from the plains of Moab to the top of Pisgah, ( B ) across from Jericho. ( C ) There the Lord showed ( D ) him the whole land—from Gilead to Dan, ( E ) 2 all of Naphtali, the territory of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the Mediterranean Sea, ( F ) 3 the Negev ( G ) and the whole region from the Valley of Jericho, the City of Palms, ( H ) as far as Zoar. ( I ) 4 Then the Lord said to him, “This is the land I promised on oath ( J ) to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob ( K ) when I said, ‘I will give it ( L ) to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your eyes, but you will not cross ( M ) over into it.”

5 And Moses the servant of the Lord ( N ) died ( O ) there in Moab, as the Lord had said. 6 He buried him [ a ] in Moab, in the valley opposite Beth Peor, ( P ) but to this day no one knows where his grave is. ( Q ) 7 Moses was a hundred and twenty years old ( R ) when he died, yet his eyes were not weak ( S ) nor his strength gone. ( T ) 8 The Israelites grieved for Moses in the plains of Moab ( U ) thirty days, ( V ) until the time of weeping and mourning ( W ) was over.

9 Now Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit [ b ] of wisdom ( X ) because Moses had laid his hands on him. ( Y ) So the Israelites listened to him and did what the Lord had commanded Moses.

10 Since then, no prophet ( Z ) has risen in Israel like Moses, ( AA ) whom the Lord knew face to face, ( AB ) 11 who did all those signs and wonders ( AC ) the Lord sent him to do in Egypt—to Pharaoh and to all his officials ( AD ) and to his whole land. 12 For no one has ( AE ) ever shown the mighty power or performed the awesome deeds ( AF ) that Moses did in the sight of all Israel.
