- Daniel Chapter 12
12 Then the angel said to me, ‘At that time God's great angel Michael will come. He is the leader who takes care of your people. There will be a time of great trouble. It will be worse than any trouble that has happened since God first made your nation. But many of your own people will escape from that trouble. Those are all the people whose names are written in the book. [ a ] 2 Many dead people who lie under the ground will become alive again. Some of them will receive life that continues for ever with God. But other people will receive shame that continues for ever. 3 People who are wise will shine like the bright sky. Those who help many people to do what is right will also shine brightly for ever. They will shine like the stars in the sky at night.
4 Daniel, you must now close this message. Put seals on the book so that nobody can open it until it is time for the end of this world. Many people will try to understand about these things. They will travel everywhere to get more knowledge.’ [ b ]
5 After the angel said this, I, Daniel, looked up. I saw two other people. One of them stood on the same side of the river as me. The other one stood on the other side of the river. 6 One of them spoke to the man who wore linen clothes and who now stood above the river. He asked that man, ‘How long will it be until these wonderful things finish?’ 7 The man who wore linen clothes lifted up both his hands towards the sky. I heard him make a strong promise with the authority of God, who lives for ever. He said, ‘It will continue for three and a half times. [ c ] Then the enemies of God's holy people will finally lose their power. That will be the end of all these events.’
8 I heard the man's words, but I did not understand. So I said, ‘Sir, how will all these things finally finish?’ 9 He said to me, ‘You must go now, Daniel. This message will remain secret until it is time for the end of this world. The seals will keep the book closed. 10 The time of trouble will cause many people to become clean and pure. But wicked people will continue to do evil things. No wicked people will understand what God is doing. But wise people will understand.
11 People will suffer for 1,290 days during that time of trouble. It will start from the time when people can no longer offer their sacrifices each day in the temple. That is when the enemy will put a disgusting thing that causes trouble in the holy place. [ d ] 12 But God will bless all those people who remain faithful until the 1,335 days come to an end.
13 You yourself must serve God faithfully until the end of your life. You will die. But at the end of time you will rise to live again. Then you will receive the good things that God has prepared for you.’
12 “Daniel, at that time the great prince Michael will stand up. Michael is in charge of your people. There will be a time of much trouble, the worst time since nations have been on earth. But Daniel, at that time every one of your people whose name is found written in the book of life will be saved. 2 There are many who are dead and buried. [ a ] Some of them will wake up and live forever, but others will wake up to shame and disgrace forever. 3 The wise people will shine as bright as the sky. Those who teach others to live right will shine like stars forever and ever. [ b ]
4 “But you, Daniel, keep this message a secret. You must close the book and keep this secret until the time of the end. Many people will go here and there looking for true knowledge, and the true knowledge will increase.”
5 Then I, Daniel, noticed two other men. One man was standing on my side of the river, and the other was standing on the other side. 6 The man who was dressed in linen was standing over the water in the river. One of the two men said to him, “How long will it be before these amazing things come true?”
7 The man dressed in linen and standing over the water lifted his right and left hands toward heaven. And I heard him make a promise using the name of God who lives forever. He said, “It will be for three and one-half years. [ c ] The power of the holy people will be broken, and then all these things will finally come true.”
8 I heard the answer, but I really didn’t understand. So I asked, “Sir, what will happen after all this comes true?”
9 He answered, “Go on about your life Daniel. The message is hidden. It will be a secret until the time of the end. 10 Many people will be made pure—they will make themselves clean. But evil people will continue to be evil. And those wicked people will not understand these things, but the wise people will understand them.
11 “The daily sacrifice will be stopped. There will be 1290 days from that time until the time that the terrible thing that destroys is set up. 12 The one who waits for and comes to the end of the 1335 days will be very happy.
13 “As for you, Daniel, go and live your life until the end. You will get your rest. At the end you will rise from death and receive your share of the promise.”
12 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
5 Then I Daniel looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one on this side of the bank of the river, and the other on that side of the bank of the river.
6 And one said to the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, How long shall it be to the end of these wonders?
7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.
8 And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things?
9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.
10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.
11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.
12 Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.
13 But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.
12 “Now at that time ( A ) Michael, the great prince who stands guard over the sons of your people, will arise. And there will be a ( B ) time of distress ( C ) such as never occurred since there was a nation until that time; and at that time your people, everyone who is found written in the ( D ) book, will be rescued. 2 And ( E ) many of those who sleep in the dust of the ground will awake, ( F ) these to everlasting life, but the others to disgrace and everlasting [ a ] contempt. 3 And [ b ] those who have ( G ) insight will ( H ) shine like the glow of the [ c ] expanse of heaven, and those who [ d ] ( I ) lead the many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever. 4 But as for you, Daniel, ( J ) keep these words secret and ( K ) seal up the book until the ( L ) end of time; ( M ) many will roam about, and knowledge will increase.”
5 Then I, Daniel, looked, and behold, two others were standing, one on this bank of the stream and the other on that bank of the stream. 6 And ( N ) someone said to the man ( O ) dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the stream, “ ( P ) How long will it be until the end of these wonders?” 7 And I heard the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the stream, [ e ] as he ( Q ) raised his right hand and his left toward heaven, and swore by ( R ) Him who lives forever that it would be for a [ f ] ( S ) time, [ g ] times, and half a [ h ] time ; and as soon as [ i ] they finish ( T ) smashing the [ j ] power of the holy people, all these events will be completed. 8 But as for me, I heard but did not understand; so I said, “My lord, what will be the [ k ] outcome of these events ?” 9 And he said, “Go your way , Daniel, for these words will be kept secret and ( U ) sealed up until the end time. 10 ( V ) Many will be purged, [ l ] cleansed, and refined, but the ( W ) wicked will act wickedly; and none of the wicked will understand, but [ m ] those who ( X ) have insight will understand. 11 And from the time that the regular sacrifice is abolished and the ( Y ) abomination [ n ] of desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days. 12 ( Z ) Blessed is the one who is patient and attains to the ( AA ) 1,335 days! 13 But as for you, go your way to the [ o ] end; then you will ( AB ) rest and [ p ] rise for your ( AC ) allotted portion at the end of the [ q ] age.”
12 “At that time Michael, ( A ) the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress ( B ) such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people—everyone whose name is found written in the book ( C ) —will be delivered. ( D ) 2 Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: ( E ) some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt. ( F ) 3 Those who are wise [ a ] ( G ) will shine ( H ) like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, ( I ) like the stars for ever and ever. ( J ) 4 But you, Daniel, roll up and seal ( K ) the words of the scroll until the time of the end. ( L ) Many will go here and there ( M ) to increase knowledge.”
5 Then I, Daniel, looked, and there before me stood two others, one on this bank of the river and one on the opposite bank. ( N ) 6 One of them said to the man clothed in linen, ( O ) who was above the waters of the river, “How long will it be before these astonishing things are fulfilled?” ( P )
7 The man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, lifted his right hand ( Q ) and his left hand toward heaven, and I heard him swear by him who lives forever, ( R ) saying, “It will be for a time, times and half a time. [ b ] ( S ) When the power of the holy people ( T ) has been finally broken, all these things will be completed. ( U ) ”
8 I heard, but I did not understand. So I asked, “My lord, what will the outcome of all this be?”
9 He replied, “Go your way, Daniel, because the words are rolled up and sealed ( V ) until the time of the end. ( W ) 10 Many will be purified, made spotless and refined, ( X ) but the wicked will continue to be wicked. ( Y ) None of the wicked will understand, but those who are wise will understand. ( Z )
11 “From the time that the daily sacrifice ( AA ) is abolished and the abomination that causes desolation ( AB ) is set up, there will be 1,290 days. ( AC ) 12 Blessed is the one who waits ( AD ) for and reaches the end of the 1,335 days. ( AE )
13 “As for you, go your way till the end. ( AF ) You will rest, ( AG ) and then at the end of the days you will rise to receive your allotted inheritance. ( AH ) ”
