Paul says ‘Hello’

1 This letter is from Paul, Silas and Timothy.

We are writing to the people of the church in Thessalonica. You belong to God our Father, and to the Lord Jesus Christ.

2 We pray that God, the Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ will continue to help you. We pray that they will give you peace in your minds.

Paul thanks God because of the believers at Thessalonica

3 Our Christian friends, we ought always to thank God because of you. It is right that we do this, because you are learning to trust Christ more and more. All of you are also loving each other more and more. 4 As a result, we are proud to tell believers in other churches about you. We tell them how you continue to trust God in your many troubles. You are patient and brave, even when people cause you to have much pain.

5 This shows us that God judges people in a way that is right. Now you are receiving much trouble because you belong to God's kingdom. This shows that God accepts you as the people that he rules.

6 God will punish those people who are causing trouble for you. He will cause trouble for them. That is right and fair. 7 God will also do what is right and fair for you. You have troubles now. But one day God will cause you to have rest, together with us. That will happen when the Lord Jesus comes down from heaven. He will come with his powerful angels, 8 and with a very hot fire. He will punish those people who do not know God. Yes, he will punish those people who do not obey the good news about our Lord Jesus. 9 Their punishment will continue for ever, as God destroys them. He will keep them away from the Lord. They will never see the Lord, or his great power. 10 This will happen when Jesus comes on that special day. His own people will praise him for the great things that he has done for them. All of us who are believers will be surprised when we see his great power. This includes you, because you believed our message about the Lord Jesus.

Paul prays for the believers

11 So we always pray for you. Our God has chosen you to be his own people. We pray that he will help you, so that you continue to please him. We also pray that God will work powerfully in you. Then you will be able to do every good thing that you want to do. You will do the things that you want to do because you trust God. 12 As a result, people will praise our Lord Jesus because of how you live. You also will receive praise, because you belong to Jesus. All this is possible because our God and the Lord Jesus Christ are very kind.

1 Greetings from Paul, Silas, and Timothy.

To the church of those in Thessalonica, who are in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Grace and peace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

3 We thank God for you always. And that’s what we should do, because you give us good reason to be thankful: Your faith is growing more and more. And the love that every one of you has for each other is also growing. 4 So we tell the other churches of God how proud we are of you. We tell them how you patiently continue to be strong and have faith, even though you are being persecuted and are suffering many troubles.

Paul Tells About God’s Judgment

5 This is proof that God is right in his judgment. He wants you to be worthy of his kingdom. Your suffering is for that kingdom. 6 God will do what is right. He will punish those who are causing you trouble. 7 And he will bring relief to you who are troubled. He will bring it to you and to us when the Lord Jesus comes from heaven for all to see, together with his powerful angels. 8 He will come with burning fire to punish those who don’t know God—those who refuse to accept the Good News about our Lord Jesus. 9 They will be punished with a destruction that never ends. They will not be allowed to be with the Lord but will be kept away from his great power. 10 This will happen on the day when the Lord Jesus comes to receive honor with his holy people. He will be admired among all who have believed. And this includes you because you believed what we told you.

11 That is why we always pray for you. We ask our God to help you live the good way he wanted when he chose you. The goodness you have makes you want to do good. And the faith you have makes you work. We pray that with his power God will help you do these things more and more. 12 Then the name of our Lord Jesus will be honored because of you, and you will be honored because of him. This can happen only by the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:

2 Grace unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

3 We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth;

4 So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure:

5 Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:

6 Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you;

7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,

8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:

9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

10 When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.

11 Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power:

12 That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Giving Thanks for Faith and Perseverance

1 ( A ) Paul, ( B ) Silvanus, and ( C ) Timothy,

To the ( D ) church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: 2 ( E ) Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

3 We ought always ( F ) to give thanks to God for you, ( G ) brothers and sisters , as is only fitting, because your faith is increasing abundantly, and the ( H ) love of each and every one of you toward one another grows ever greater. 4 As a result, we ourselves ( I ) speak proudly of you among ( J ) the churches of God for your [ a ] perseverance and faith [ b ] ( K ) in the midst of all your persecutions and afflictions which you endure. 5 This is [ c ] a ( L ) plain indication of God’s righteous judgment so that you will be ( M ) considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you indeed are suffering. 6 [ d ] For after all ( N ) it is only right [ e ] for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, 7 and to give relief to you who are afflicted, along with us, [ f ] ( O ) when the Lord Jesus will be revealed ( P ) from heaven ( Q ) with [ g ] His mighty angels 8 ( R ) in flaming fire, dealing out retribution to those who ( S ) do not know God, and to those who ( T ) do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9 These people will pay the penalty of ( U ) eternal destruction, ( V ) away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, 10 when He comes to be ( W ) glorified among His [ h ] saints on that ( X ) day, and to be marveled at among all who have believed—because our ( Y ) testimony to you was believed. 11 To this end also we ( Z ) pray for you always, that our God will ( AA ) consider you worthy of your ( AB ) calling, and fulfill every desire for ( AC ) goodness and the ( AD ) work of faith with power, 12 so that the ( AE ) name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified in you, and you in Him, in accordance with the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

To the church of the Thessalonians ( C ) in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:

2 Grace and peace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. ( D )

Thanksgiving and Prayer

3 We ought always to thank God for you, ( E ) brothers and sisters, [ b ] and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing. ( F ) 4 Therefore, among God’s churches we boast ( G ) about your perseverance and faith ( H ) in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring. ( I )

5 All this is evidence ( J ) that God’s judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy ( K ) of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering. 6 God is just: ( L ) He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you ( M ) 7 and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven ( N ) in blazing fire ( O ) with his powerful angels. ( P ) 8 He will punish ( Q ) those who do not know God ( R ) and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. ( S ) 9 They will be punished with everlasting destruction ( T ) and shut out from the presence of the Lord ( U ) and from the glory of his might ( V ) 10 on the day ( W ) he comes to be glorified ( X ) in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you. ( Y )

11 With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, ( Z ) that our God may make you worthy ( AA ) of his calling, ( AB ) and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness ( AC ) and your every deed prompted by faith. ( AD ) 12 We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, ( AE ) and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. [ c ]
