- 2 chronicles Chapter 3
3 Then Solomon began to build the Lord 's temple in Jerusalem. He built it on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had shown himself to his father David. [ a ] David had prepared a place for the temple there, at the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite. [ b ] 2 Solomon began to build the temple on the second day of the second month of the fourth year that he ruled Israel as king. [ c ]
3 The foundation for God's temple was 27 metres long and 9 metres wide. (They measured it in cubits.)
4 There was an entrance room at the front of the temple's big hall. It was as wide as the temple, 9 metres wide. It was 9 metres high. [ d ] Solomon's workers covered the inside of the entrance room with pure gold.
5 They covered the walls inside the big hall with boards of cypress wood. Then they covered the boards with pure gold. They drew pictures of palm trees and chains on the walls. 6 They used valuable stones to make the temple beautiful. The gold that they used came from Parvaim. 7 They used gold to cover all parts of the temple: the beams for its roof, the entrances, the walls and the doors. They cut pictures of cherubs on the walls.
8 Solomon's workers built the Most Holy Place in the temple. It was 9 metres long and 9 metres wide. That was how wide the temple itself was. They used about 20,000 kilograms of pure gold to cover its walls. 9 The gold nails weighed the same as 50 gold coins. They also covered the walls of the upstairs rooms with gold.
10 In the Most Holy Place, they made models of two cherubs. They covered them with gold. 11-13 The cherubs stood side by side in the Most Holy Place. Their faces looked towards the big hall. Each cherub had two wings. Each wing was 2.2 metres long. They held their wings out so that one wing of each cherub touched a wing of the other cherub. The other wing of each cherub touched a wall of the Most Holy Place. The four wings of the two cherubs reached across 9 metres.
14 Solomon's workers used blue, purple and red material and good linen to make a special curtain. It had pictures of cherubs on it.
15 Solomon's workers made two pillars to stand at the front of the temple. They were 16 metres high. [ e ] There was a piece on the top of each pillar that was 2.2 metres high.
16 They made images of chains around the top pieces of the pillars. They also made 100 images of pomegranates among the chains. 17 Then they put the two pillars at the entrance of the temple. One pillar stood on the south side of the entrance. The other pillar stood on the north side. Solomon called the pillar on the south side ‘Jakin’. He called the pillar on the north side ‘Boaz’. [ f ]
3 Solomon began building the Lord ’s Temple at Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord appeared to David, Solomon’s father. This was the place David had prepared for the Temple. It had been the threshing floor of Araunah [ a ] the Jebusite. [ b ] 2 Solomon started to build on the second day of the second month of his fourth year as king of Israel.
3 These are the measurements he used for building the foundation of God’s Temple, using the old cubit. [ c ] The foundation was 60 cubits [ d ] long and 20 cubits [ e ] wide. 4 The porch in front of the Temple was 20 cubits long and 20 cubits high. [ f ] He covered the inside of the porch with pure gold. 5 He put panels made of cypress wood on the walls of the larger room. Then he put pure gold over the cypress panels and then put pictures of palm trees and chains on the gold. 6 He put valuable stones in the Temple for beauty. The gold he used was gold from Parvaim. [ g ] 7 He covered the inside of the Temple with the gold. He put the gold on the ceiling beams, doorposts, walls, and doors. He carved Cherub angels on the walls.
8 Then he made the Most Holy Place. This room was 20 cubits long and 20 cubits wide. It was as wide as the Temple was. He put pure gold on the walls of the Most Holy Place. The gold weighed about 22 1/2 tons. [ h ] 9 The gold nails weighed 1 1/4 pounds. [ i ] He covered the upper rooms with gold. 10 He made two Cherub angels to put in the Most Holy Place. The workers covered the Cherub angels with gold. 11 Each wing of the Cherub angels was 5 cubits [ j ] long. The total length of the wings was 20 cubits. One wing of the first Cherub angel touched the wall on one side of the room. The other wing touched one wing of the second Cherub angel. 12 And the other wing of the second Cherub angel touched the wall on the other side of the room. 13 So the wings of the two Cherub angels together reached across the room—a total of 20 cubits. The Cherub angels stood facing the Holy Place. [ k ]
14 He made the curtain [ l ] from blue, purple, and red materials and expensive linen. There were Cherub angels on the curtain.
15 He put two columns in front of the Temple. The columns were 35 cubits [ m ] tall. The top part of the two columns was 5 cubits long. 16 He made chains in a necklace and put them on the tops of the columns. He made 100 pomegranates [ n ] and put them on the chains. 17 Then he put the columns up in front of the Temple. One column stood on the right side. The other column stood on the left side. He named the column on the right side “Jakin.” [ o ] And he named the column on the left side “Boaz.” [ p ]
3 Then Solomon began to build the house of the Lord at Jerusalem in mount Moriah, where the Lord appeared unto David his father, in the place that David had prepared in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.
2 And he began to build in the second day of the second month, in the fourth year of his reign.
3 Now these are the things wherein Solomon was instructed for the building of the house of God. The length by cubits after the first measure was threescore cubits, and the breadth twenty cubits.
4 And the porch that was in the front of the house, the length of it was according to the breadth of the house, twenty cubits, and the height was an hundred and twenty: and he overlaid it within with pure gold.
5 And the greater house he cieled with fir tree, which he overlaid with fine gold, and set thereon palm trees and chains.
6 And he garnished the house with precious stones for beauty: and the gold was gold of Parvaim.
7 He overlaid also the house, the beams, the posts, and the walls thereof, and the doors thereof, with gold; and graved cherubims on the walls.
8 And he made the most holy house, the length whereof was according to the breadth of the house, twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty cubits: and he overlaid it with fine gold, amounting to six hundred talents.
9 And the weight of the nails was fifty shekels of gold. And he overlaid the upper chambers with gold.
10 And in the most holy house he made two cherubims of image work, and overlaid them with gold.
11 And the wings of the cherubims were twenty cubits long: one wing of the one cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house: and the other wing was likewise five cubits, reaching to the wing of the other cherub.
12 And one wing of the other cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house: and the other wing was five cubits also, joining to the wing of the other cherub.
13 The wings of these cherubims spread themselves forth twenty cubits: and they stood on their feet, and their faces were inward.
14 And he made the vail of blue, and purple, and crimson, and fine linen, and wrought cherubims thereon.
15 Also he made before the house two pillars of thirty and five cubits high, and the chapiter that was on the top of each of them was five cubits.
16 And he made chains, as in the oracle, and put them on the heads of the pillars; and made an hundred pomegranates, and put them on the chains.
17 And he reared up the pillars before the temple, one on the right hand, and the other on the left; and called the name of that on the right hand Jachin, and the name of that on the left Boaz.
3 ( A ) Then Solomon began to build the house of the Lord in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to his father David, at the place that David had prepared ( B ) on the threshing floor of [ a ] Ornan the Jebusite. 2 He began to build on the second day in the second month [ b ] of the fourth year of his reign.
3 Now these are the [ c ] foundations which ( C ) Solomon laid for building the house of God. The length in cubits, according to the old standard, was [ d ] sixty cubits, and the width, twenty cubits. 4 The porch which was in front of the house ( D ) was as long as the width of the house, [ e ] twenty cubits, and the height [ f ] twenty; and inside he overlaid it with pure gold. 5 He overlaid ( E ) the [ g ] main room with juniper wood and overlaid it with fine gold; and he [ h ] ornamented it with palm trees and chains. 6 Further, he overlaid the house [ i ] with precious stones; and the gold was gold from Parvaim. 7 ( F ) He also overlaid the house with gold—the beams, the thresholds, and its walls and doors; and he ( G ) carved cherubim on the walls.
8 Then he made ( H ) the [ j ] room of the Most Holy Place: its length across the width of the house was [ k ] twenty cubits, and its width was twenty cubits; and he overlaid it with fine gold, amounting to [ l ] six hundred talents. 9 The weight of the nails was fifty shekels of gold. He also overlaid ( I ) the upper rooms with gold.
10 ( J ) Then he made two [ m ] sculptured cherubim in the room of the Most Holy Place and overlaid them with gold. 11 The wingspan of the [ n ] cherubim was twenty [ o ] cubits; the wing of one, of five cubits, touched the wall of the house, and its other wing, of five cubits, touched the wing of the other cherub. 12 The wing of the other cherub, of five cubits, touched the wall of the house; and its other wing, of five cubits, was attached to the wing of the [ p ] first cherub. 13 The wings of these cherubim extended twenty cubits, and they stood on their feet [ q ] facing the main room. 14 ( K ) He made the veil of violet, purple, crimson, and fine linen, and he worked cherubim into it.
15 ( L ) He also made two pillars for the front of the house, thirty-five cubits [ r ] high, and the capital on the top of each was five cubits. 16 He made chains in the inner sanctuary and placed them on the tops of the pillars; and he made a hundred pomegranates and placed them on the chains. 17 ( M ) He erected the pillars in front of the temple, one on the right and the other on the left, and named the one on the right Jachin and the one on the left Boaz.
3 Then Solomon began to build ( B ) the temple of the Lord ( C ) in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to his father David. It was on the threshing floor of Araunah [ a ] ( D ) the Jebusite, the place provided by David. 2 He began building on the second day of the second month in the fourth year of his reign. ( E )
3 The foundation Solomon laid for building the temple of God was sixty cubits long and twenty cubits wide [ b ] ( F ) (using the cubit of the old standard). 4 The portico at the front of the temple was twenty cubits [ c ] long across the width of the building and twenty [ d ] cubits high.
He overlaid the inside with pure gold. 5 He paneled the main hall with juniper and covered it with fine gold and decorated it with palm tree ( G ) and chain designs. 6 He adorned the temple with precious stones. And the gold he used was gold of Parvaim. 7 He overlaid the ceiling beams, doorframes, walls and doors of the temple with gold, and he carved cherubim ( H ) on the walls.
8 He built the Most Holy Place, ( I ) its length corresponding to the width of the temple—twenty cubits long and twenty cubits wide. He overlaid the inside with six hundred talents [ e ] of fine gold. 9 The gold nails ( J ) weighed fifty shekels. [ f ] He also overlaid the upper parts with gold.
10 For the Most Holy Place he made a pair ( K ) of sculptured cherubim and overlaid them with gold. 11 The total wingspan of the cherubim was twenty cubits. One wing of the first cherub was five cubits [ g ] long and touched the temple wall, while its other wing, also five cubits long, touched the wing of the other cherub. 12 Similarly one wing of the second cherub was five cubits long and touched the other temple wall, and its other wing, also five cubits long, touched the wing of the first cherub. 13 The wings of these cherubim ( L ) extended twenty cubits. They stood on their feet, facing the main hall. [ h ]
14 He made the curtain ( M ) of blue, purple and crimson yarn and fine linen, with cherubim ( N ) worked into it.
15 For the front of the temple he made two pillars, ( O ) which together were thirty-five cubits [ i ] long, each with a capital ( P ) five cubits high. 16 He made interwoven chains [ j ] ( Q ) and put them on top of the pillars. He also made a hundred pomegranates ( R ) and attached them to the chains. 17 He erected the pillars in the front of the temple, one to the south and one to the north. The one to the south he named Jakin [ k ] and the one to the north Boaz. [ l ]
