- 1 thessalonians Chapter 1
1 This letter is from Paul, Silas and Timothy.
We are writing to the people of the church in Thessalonica. You belong to God the Father and to the Lord Jesus Christ.
We pray that God will continue to help you. We pray that he will give you peace in your minds.
2 We always thank God for all of you. Every time that we pray, we pray for you. 3 As we pray to our Father God, we remember how you live. You do good things because you believe in Christ. You work hard to help other people because you love them and you love God. You are also strong and patient because you hope strongly in our Lord Jesus Christ. [ a ]
4 Our Christian friends, God loves you. We know that he has chosen you to belong to him. 5 When we told you God's good news, it was not only words that we spoke to you. God helped us with his power and with the Holy Spirit. As a result, you were sure that our message was true. You also know that we lived among you in a good way. We had come to help you.
6 In your lives also, you copied our example and the example of the Lord Jesus. When you believed our message, people caused you to have a lot of trouble. But God's Holy Spirit helped you to be very happy. 7 As a result, you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. [ b ]
8 Because of you, people in many places have clearly heard the message about the Lord. It is not only the people in Macedonia and in Achaia who have heard it. People everywhere now know how you trust God. So, as we travel to different places, we do not need to tell people anything. 9 Those people themselves speak about how you accepted us. They tell us how you stopped worshipping false gods. They know that you now serve the true God who always lives. 10 They also tell us that you are waiting patiently for God's Son to return from heaven. God raised him up after his death on the cross. He is Jesus. He saves us from God's punishment that will come one day. [ c ]
1 Greetings from Paul, Silas, and Timothy.
To the church of those in Thessalonica, who are in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Grace and peace be yours.
2 We always remember you when we pray, and we thank God for all of you. 3 Every time we pray to God our Father, we thank him for all that you have done because of your faith. And we thank him for the work you have done because of your love. And we thank him that you continue to be strong because of your hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
4 Brothers and sisters, God loves you. And we know that he has chosen you to be his people. 5 When we brought the Good News to you, we came with more than words. We brought that Good News with power, with the Holy Spirit, and with the sure knowledge that it was true. Also you know how we lived when we were with you. We lived that way to help you. 6 And you became like us and like the Lord. You suffered much, but still you accepted the teaching with joy. The Holy Spirit gave you that joy.
7 You became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. 8 The Lord’s teaching has spread from you throughout Greece and beyond. In fact, your faith in God has become known everywhere, so we never have to tell anyone about it. 9 People everywhere are already telling the story about the good way you accepted us when we were there with you. They tell about how you stopped worshiping idols and changed to serve the living and true God. 10 And you began waiting for God’s Son to come from heaven—the Son God raised from death. He is Jesus, who saves us from God’s angry judgment that is coming.
1 Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
2 We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers;
3 Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;
4 Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.
5 For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.
6 And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost.
7 So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia.
8 For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing.
9 For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;
10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

4 For we know, brothers and sisters [ b ] loved by God, ( K ) that he has chosen you, 5 because our gospel ( L ) came to you not simply with words but also with power, ( M ) with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know ( N ) how we lived among you for your sake. 6 You became imitators of us ( O ) and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering ( P ) with the joy ( Q ) given by the Holy Spirit. ( R ) 7 And so you became a model ( S ) to all the believers in Macedonia ( T ) and Achaia. ( U ) 8 The Lord’s message ( V ) rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia—your faith in God has become known everywhere. ( W ) Therefore we do not need to say anything about it, 9 for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how you turned ( X ) to God from idols ( Y ) to serve the living and true God, ( Z ) 10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, ( AA ) whom he raised from the dead ( AB ) —Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.
